World famous Dr. Seuss mansion in La Jolla up for sale

Get your bids in. A La Jolla mansion once owned by Dr. Seuss is for sale for the first time in 75 years.
"The front door actually has etched glass from the hat from 'The Cat in the Hat," said Jason Barry, co-owner of Barry Estates, a real-estate firm hand picked by University of California San Diego to list the home.
The long time San Diegan, Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss purchased the home in 1947. He lived there until 1991 while he worked on many of his best selling books inside the upstairs studio of the mansion.

Back in the 1980s, I was a cable guy, I went to do some work there. I didn't know his real name, so I had no idea who I was servicing. When I walked in I noticed a lot of artwork and I casually mentioned to his wife how they must be Dr. Seuss fans...lol....I few minutes later I realized I was in his house!! His wife was not a nice person. Very rude and cold. He was cool.

I would not could not buy this house, I will not buy this home. I do not have the dollars stashed, I do not have the cash. Not the pounds, not the pence, to make an offer would make no sense. So goodbye front door and goodbye fence. Goodbye big kitchen so long big den, I wish that you were free. One day someone will own you, but it sure af ain't me.

Probably, that's a “problematic“ idea...Zoning, traffic, and parking could cause issues with the residents of that neighborhood. Plus, there's already galleries in art museums, and an art gallery in South Lake Tahoe, California, which has his creations. I once saw an exhibit at an art gallery in Sausalito, California. #justtypin

What a beautiful home. I would love to live there...if I could afford it. But, the highest bid certainly won't go for that price IMO, but I'm sure they have a reserve on it.

The huge house with massive lawn next door sold for only 9 million and is a far better house. This house is not only outdated but over priced by at least 3 million. Not to mention the fact you have to share a driveway and have no gate.

Exterior is decent looking but the interior is horrendous! If you take out the original owner’s name/achievements, it’s just a crappy old house due for a tear down or complete renovation to update everything. Frankly, it’s overpriced! There might be a billionaire out there ready to buy it though and of course do the necessary major upgrades.

It would be a disaster for someone to update that house. It's a historical house really. Everything is gorgeous the way it is. Hopefully, the one who buys it will appreciate the style of the past. And, the houses built back then aren't crappy old houses, they were built to last, with the very best materials...the crappy houses are the ones that are built today, with cheap materials. Builders these days have no pride in their work, they just want a quick buck.
