World Music Day | Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Sameer & Sanjay Tandon on fight for royalties | ISAMRA & IPRS

19 күн бұрынIt’s unlikely for a music aficionado in India to not know about the issue surrounding the distribution of royalties for music creators and not just music labels and producers, which started in the 1960s. With music societies like the Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) and the Indian Singers and Musicians Rights Association (ISAMRA) spearheading the mission, the industry has come a long way.
On World Music Day, singers Sonu Nigam and Shaan, lyricist Sameer Anjaan and ISAMRA Founder, Director and CEO Sanjay Tandon, in an exclusive sit-down with Soumya Vajpayee, Associate Editor, Hindustan Times HT City, delve into the topic of music copyright and how these societies - which are of the musicians, for the musicians and by the musicians - safeguard the democracy of music in India by ensuring justice for all the stakeholders, including composers, singers and lyricists.

Poor Sonu, he paid a tough price at the peak of his career, being boycotted by music companies. I am amazed that he is not bitter or angry at the world or music companies. Truly brave guy.

Not true. Royalty issue happened in 2012-2013, Sonu was not getting work in Bollywood even before that issue happened. During those days Atif Aslam and other Pakistani singers were dominating bollywood along with Neeraj Shridhar and Mohit Chauhan.

@@vishu77zplease do some research on his songs during that period . Yes Atif had songs then but believe me when I said Sonu Nigam was singing twice Atif was. Please do not spread misinformation. Atif , Mohit and Neeraj Shridhar were in trend bas Sonu Nigam was never out of it . Please check the number of songs he had compared to others. You did not follow him that's why you do not know and as such you should not spread half info.

@@kkayy4 Sir, Atif and other Pakistani singers started dominating Bollywood music after 2005, major role in this transformation happened due to Pritam. Atif has dominated from 2005-2013, Woh Lamhe, Tere bin, O Mere Khuda from Prince, Tera hone laaga hoon from Ajab Prem ki Ghazab kahani, Jeene laga hoon etc along with Atif there were other Pakistani singers like Shafqat Amanat Ali who sang hit songs of Pritam like Teri Jhuki Nazar, Allah Waariyan, Phir le aaya Dil etc. After Atif, pritam explored talents like Mohit Chauhan and Neeraj Shridhar who gave back to back hits like, Tum se Hi, Kyon from Barfi, Love Mera Hit hit, Tum Mile, Character Dheela from Ready film and numerous other hits. Since 2013 to the present times, Arijit took over bollywood and gave back to back chartbusters and soulful melodies. I don't know about chartbusters of Sonu sir in these time period.

Songs like subhanallah, galat baat hai, hangover, gerua, rabba from heropanti and many many more were in Sonu Nigam's voice but bcoz of his stand for royalty, music companies dubbed all of them with other singers. Hope one day we get to hear all these songs in Sonu's voice ❤

More than Sonu, shaan paid the price. Almost every music label ignored him

It was worse for Sonu because he was actively targeted by the music labels and producers and boycotted. He lost work because of the boycott while lesser singers were promoted and lauded and he was badmouthed. The media was just vicious in how they targeted him. Half the current crop of singers would be nowhere if Sonu and Shaan were not ignored for 10 years. It is actually a terrible situation. I am shocked that they are so positive and hold no grudges.

@@AnikaRahman-xh9wc I guess so; Sonu Nigam sustained his lows of his career with his incredible concerts and made a lot of independent and devotional music which is very popular on streaming platforms, but Shaan was not able to do this sadly. His old songs are so amazing, people still listen to them. RIP to the incredible KK.

shaan never was given much chances its not about bycot ..shaan himself says after 3 idoit song he was not given song and before 3idoit shaan always had less songs......while sonu nigam was at peak of his career in 2013 he had songs in Kick , yeh jawani hai dewani , main tera hero , herpanti etc but all of these songs got dubbed due to his stance on illegal contracts and royalty

दोस्तों सबको मालूम है कि आप लोग बहुत पढ़े लिखे हो। लेकिन अगर इंटरव्यू हिंदी में ले लेते तो और भी ज्यादा अच्छा होता. यह एंकर्स को भी सोचना चाहिए कि आपका इंग्लिश बोलने से आपका इज़्ज़त बढ़ नहीं जाएगा या फिर हिंदी बोलने से आपका इज़्ज़त घट नहीं जाएगा। सोनू निगम तो अच्छी खासी हिंदी बोल रहे हैं लेकिन यह महिला खुद को इंग्लिश का बड़ा ज्ञाता दिखा रही है। सोनू निगम इतने बड़े होकर भी हिंदी में जवाब दे रहे हैं और दोनों एंकर लगातार अंग्रेजी बोले जा रहे हैं. ऐसा लग रहा है कि यह अंग्रेजी बोलने की कंपटीशन चल रही है कि कौन ज्यादा बढ़िया अंग्रेजी बोल सकता है. बेवकूफीयत की भी हद होती है।
