I totally enjoyed playing this thing. She's not overpowered in my book and brings some interesting tactical opportunities, shaking up the upper tier meta a bit.

Ooooh, soo much. I was actually disappointed if I got a battle without CVs. Actively hunting planes in this thing is glorious. CVs will learn to avoid them like USN CLs, which will give them some interesting tactical opportunities - imagine pairing up a Friesland with a British or American destroyer in something like Epicentre. You're mostly invulnerable to planes. You have plenty smokes, and a second DD can compensate for the lack of dpm.

All good ships. Kutuzov is rather similar to Chapayev, so if you're looking for something unique, I'd pick either of the other two. Friesland, as you've seen, isn't a massive damage dealer, but fills a very interesting role, and doesn't care much if she's in a tier 10 game. Roma is an all-round excellent (some would say OP) tier 8 BB.

You should choose the Friesland, but as Dutchie I am pretty biased 😜

It's just not having something in it. Once you add the repair kit and set it to auto-resupply, it won't be red anymore.

It's a premium, so she might be in a crate, bundle or in the shipyard at some point, but I have no info on when that may be.

They had Radar direction. Anything silly enough to get within range would be in trouble no matter how fast they were moving, at the time at least.

Yes, radar-based gun directors, automatic tracking, proximity fuses, and I'd assume if something large-calibre like a 150mm shell blows up in the path of an aircraft, it's probably enough for the debris to cause some damage (i.e. you wouldn't have to hit a jet directly, just put enough crap in close proximity). Similar principle with modern AA missiles.

Almost, but yes, you'll actively go plane-hunting in this thing, which puts her ahead of Worcester in my opinion, since she can take much more aggressive positions due to stealth & smokes.

Light cruisers are bad news for any DD, especially Friesland :)

I don't see her damage potential anywhere near a Smolensk. I can usually pull somewhere from 40-70k damage, which isn't much for a tier 9 DD. I've actually duelled a Smolensk in this thing (it didn't end well). Friesland isn't hard to kill - just follow the tracers. Anything that has radar or sonar negates her smokes. No torps means you can't hold a position against a determined enemy, and she's not fast enough to outrun things. I had a chase with a Neptune, pulled all kinds of tricks, and could have killed him three times over in a Hsienyang with torps, but lost the fight in this one. For me, she's a fun ship, with a nasty surprise for CVs, and a bit of an upset potential if we get a similar tech tree line.

Yes, she's one of the sturdier DDs out there, 4.5% dmg reduction gives you a bit of a hint in that direction. Also, 20% fire resistance is hilarious on a destroyer, she basically just shrugs off fires. Honestly, in any other DD, the easiest is probably going to be to rush her and torp at point blank, since she can't defend herself. Unless you're in a German DD, I've lost gunfights against those (Darings are hard as well)

My advice buy it 😬

It's everyone's decision. If you buy her, you know what you get. If you go for crates, you may spend less, but you also may spend more. It all depends on if you want to take risks, and are willing to accept losing the money without getting the ship.

And it’s not entirely true that this is the first Dutch ship in the game. The T61 is build in the Netherlands and based upon a Dutch design. 💪🏻

Yeah, I'm curious to see that as well. The USN DDs have mildly decent AA, but this thing is on another level. The tech tree versions might be somewhat weaker, maybe fewer consumables and some points less, but would still be interesting tactically.

The t10 will have the fastest torp in the game.

Just rush her, if you get a chance. She has no torps. But yeah, give it a bit, when the excitement has worn off and more people have gotten the idea of what this ship can do, and how to counter it, things will go back to normal.

@@FunandGameswithTerry it’s really annoying since it has sonar, I always get detected and hit by other cruisers near by. When I played BB tonight, it does harasses me hard with HE. It can be very a powerful assisting ship when playing in a team.

As a t8 British cruiser player yes we learn how to survive and today I could chew on the Friesland its very fun that way

Yes. Things like Edinburghs, hell, Clevelands can make your life very, very short if you're not careful. There was a reason I was miffed at my team for letting the Edinburgh live so long. If anyone actually rushes a Friesland, she's very dead.

Yeah, I was still getting used to the shell velocity. When it comes to DDs, I often target the stern, to cause engine or steering damage - that's really annoying in a ship that relies on manoeuvres :)

65k isn't much though for a T9 DD. I can do 100k in a Hsienyang, and top-tier DDs can do ridiculous amounts of damage with the right matchmaking. She feels much more like a tiny Seattle with a smokescreen to me. Yes, you can set some fires, but she's super-dependent on actually lasting through the battle, and has very low dpm. Anyone who can aim, even battleships, can take her out in smokes. DDs can rush her. She's fun, but I don't feel like she's OP.

Yeah, CV players will figure this out quickly. It's like in my Des Moines, a CV will attack me - once. When no planes come back, they usually look for targets elsewhere.

I guess I should give up on my dreams (Shokaku) and look somewhere else ;(

I knew that Friesland had good Aa beforehand I just wanted to see how good.

Honestly, she's one of those ships that doesn't care if she's bottom-tier. Works just as well in T10.
