World of Warships Blitz - Tech Tree Talk : French Destroyers

We're getting a new tech tree line soon (in the Blitz Pass preview atm, but don't worry, they'll be completely free eventually), and it's a new French light cruiser line! Well, technically they call them "destroyer-destroyers", but you're not fooling anyone. So let's take a look at how those work, and we'll play the tier 4 for starters, since that's what everyone begins with in the Pass.

Hey Terry, nice review of French DDs. The guns are powerful but brawling using Mogador against other DDs seem difficult. Mogador at full speed is 45 knots. If you activate skill, it goes up to 50! Also, dont worry about the IJN BB going against Karlsruhe. The Japanese after all considered Germany's surrender as a betrayal to the Axis pact. Lol

I'll have the Guépard review coming up on Thursday, I'm thinking of looking into Le Fantasque-class and Mogador when I'm back.

I play these ships a lot like the American light cruisers. They have a good fire chance and with the rapid reload it can do monster damage. I’m excited for the Kleber

They actually have a better fire chance than the USN CLs :) I agree that they should be played more like light cruisers in terms of dealing damage. I prefer DDs with tactical versatility, though - single-purpose ships too often depend on being in the right situation. The comparison I'm really keen on will be Le Fantasque vs Aki, because she'll be the first one that's actually fast.

But "Kleber" doesn't sound very French.... Doesn't sound very "romantic". Are you sure its not Klebeiu or La Francaise Du Mont, or something like that? Oh well, Icelandic, Yiddish and Germanic are the REAL romance languages.... 😁 Seriously though, when are the Italian tech tree battleships being released?

Was it him who did a quick preview of Italian tech tree battleships? I'm awaiting their arrival. Somehow I don't think its gonna be real soon though.

The shell speed on higher tiers seems to be very very slow to what I heard ( even the slowest in the game ) now I wonder do the French DDs have the saturation mechanic like on pc ? Also the higher tiers have a very unique torpedo layout which should be very interesting to play with

I don't think we have damage saturation here, but I've also noticed that the shells are taking a while to get on target. And getting up close and personal isn't always the greatest choice in one of these things 😂

Im looking forward to the release of these ships, ive personally enjoyed the russian gunboats and these seem to have a similar play style In the bourrasque battle, you should have been using AP more imo, the french DDs have absolutely fantastic AP pen rivaling cruisers From what i hear mogador's AP pen is so good it can actually overpen DDs, im not really sure what ranges that happens but im thinking its 5km or less Though if mogador is capable of overpenning DDs, then her AP pen might surpass a good amount of light cruisers, maybe even nearing heavy cruiser territory potentially as there arent alot of CLs that can overpen a DD

I've actually been overpening the Soviet DD in the beginning, you see those 90odd damage numbers. Excellent AP if you can target, but the HE is good as well. 139mm is almost CL size.

I own Aigile (probably spelled wrong) and they are not torp boats in my eyes. If Radar is added at later teirs (well teir 10 now) they would be OP.

Aigle is the successor of the Guépard-class, I think. Haven't played her yet.

@@FunandGameswithTerry she is a fun gun boat. You are a largish target so I found it best to keep moving and firing when in Aigle.

@@explorationandhistorywithethan well you have kinda large health pool, so you can hit the engine accelerator, scream aux barricades!, rush a light cruiser and finish it with rapid reload shell storm ;) it's midtier battles, it's fun ;)

Hi everyone and especially Terry Do you remember that comment when I said that there is a tier two and three French Destroyers, So here is the link to what I was saying kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bZN_YNKF0MWqZpc.html Also this KZfaqr made a video about Italian battleships from tier 4 to tier 10 and thieir stats precisely but those battleships are a bit special for instnce the Tier X Christopho Colombo has the precise aiming 1, fuel smoke 3 and SCOUT PLANE 2 skills !

Blitz is not very inne to gunboats, especialy when given avarege distance battles are fought here... This line will be dead on arrival.

I think it'll be made or broken at T8. We already have a Le Fantasque class, Le Terrible. The speed is a bit memey, but other than that, lacking utility. We'll see, I'll check out the higher tiers when I'm back from holiday. But definitely not a beginner line.

You want a good gunboat DD you have the Russians and if you want to have good torpedo DD you have the japanese or if you want alternative gun boat can choose japan gunboat DD line hell u can choose brit DD and for this nation line DD i have no idea..... 🤣

My favourite DD line remains the PanAsian one. They're effectively USN DDs with better torps & radar. I may have some Hsien Yang gameplay coming up...

Not convinced at all that this line is any good. Destroyer destroyer on paper seems a good concept but without proper support skills and poor maneuverability as well as poor stealth rating i think it is very unlikely that this line will have success in that supposedly primary mission of contre torpilleurs. Why this line will be much better than the italian CA i dont see any reasons for that clearly. I would rather much prefer to use either the jervis, jutland, or the daring if I am looking forward to kill destroyers. I am very much on the fence regarding whether this line will be a worthy line to grind at all. Truth be told actually i was waiting for this line to come out in blitz because the mogador, kleber, and the marceau were excellent in pc whenever there was no carrier game involved and they are among the preferred DDs of choice for many good teams in kots where carriers are forbidden. But i am not convinced at all that it will be the same in blitz for that matter. I will still firmly stick with my östergötland and halland for daily fun games, and with the british dd line for occasions whenever I would like myself to have the highest chance of winning games. Those 2 lines are my staple benchmark upon which any new dd lines released since them will be judged and measured.

I'm on the fence as well tbh. I'm a cruiser player at heart, so I'm always looking for the utility, although just raining down destruction from an Aki, team be damned, can be refreshing, too. The French DDs only start getting their speed on in T8, so that's where it'll get interesting. My Visby does almost 47kn at T5, and that's not even on a speed build. I'll try out the higher tiers after my holiday.

@@FunandGameswithTerry i sincerely wish you have a happy and fun holiday, Terry! 👍 If there is a chance to get a good holiday with family members and friends, go get it as we are all have already been very tired and bored with this prolonged pandemic situations and mismanagement of it, I think having a good holiday with family and friends will surely be able to recharge our energy and retain positive moods for upcoming life in general. Yeah, staying positive has been a challenge (especially for a naturally born curmudgeon like me). Making videos for KZfaq has actually helped a lot. We'll be out in the mountains, if the weather holds, I should be able to get a nice hike in.
