@@Enuelle Frame perfect inputs in a specific order while racing against a clock does take skill, focus and determination. If it's so easy you're welcome to go break the WR yourself, after all, the TAS is 40-odd seconds so there's obviously still time save possible, and since it doesn't take any skill or focus I'm sure you could smash it out in an arvo. Just because it's not how the developer intended, and is exploiting a glitch, doesn't mean it's easy.

Look up the user salt suggested in the video Dotsarecool I'm subbed to him. He has videos of the greatest possible explanations on KZfaq for how/ why these mario glitches are possible. They're VERY interesting. I mean he even has a casual version and a more detailed version, for whatever you're feeling or ready for. He knows his stuff, legit. Also did you know an entire hex editor has been created on a SMW cartridge before? I mean a legit way to bring up lines of values on your screen you can edit to change almost anything in the game. You should look this stuff up, i believe SethBling has videos on it. I wouldn't recommend these things if i didn't think you'd appreciate it. It'll blow your mind.

As long as you keep your content consistent, you will definitely blow up. No one has really done these kind of videos (certainly not to this level of quality). And there is a large audience for it. I don't even watch Speed Runs, and I would watch every single one of these videos. It has a massive potential. The only thing people need to realize, is that KZfaq doesn't exactly reward accounts that only put out 1-2 videos a month. And these kind of videos take time to research and make. So it would be pretty stressful. The other issue is, how many speed runs are there really? At some point, he might run out (especially since he's combining years and years of speed runs, into a single video for a specific game). I guess this is prob less of a problem, since there is a lot of games that exist, and there probably actually is a ton of speed runs for games. I just wonder if he should put out regular content in between (shorter videos), so that his account doesn't suffer KZfaqs dumb algorithms. Then again, maybe it doesn't matter. Keep up the good work either way. This is fantastic.

@Big Mike well, the official speedrun.com rules state that you just need to reach the credits for your run to be valid. So, *technically* , that’s “beating” the game. Therefor, the run is valid ( ***technically*** ).

I’m surprised you didn’t show Sethbling’s live run where he rewrote the game’s code and made a flappy bird clone. That run showed how the credit warp was only the beginning. It could potentially mean that new categories could eventually be discovered. Here’s the video in it’s entirety: www.twitch.tv/videos/57032858 and his video with with the explanation: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nqhmmLxomNmwhmQ.html . Again, this should be shown as although it isn’t a speedrun it is a world record for the first person to write a program from within Super Mario World.

One thing I really love about Summoning Salt, he does every single video as though the viewer has never seen one of his videos before or knows anything about the history of speed running. Always includes 30seconds explaining speed demo archives and other sites before KZfaq. Just super professionally done videos imo, always super focused, has the perfect music for them and just makes each and every story interesting.

Possibly my favourite thing about speedrun progression videos is the relentless cycle of discovery and optimization. Someone discovers a trick to get through the game faster. Everyone practises for weeks, months, or years, shaving minutes and seconds and fractions of seconds off the time until it's about as low as it can get. Then someone discovers a new trick that changes the whole landscape of the run, and the cycle begins anew. I love it.

Back then, there was no Twitch. Nobody streamed their attempts of a game live, but rather recorded them onto a VHS tape and uploaded their finished runs onto a website. One of the biggest names at the time was Scott Kessler. One of his most famous runs was his Super Mario World run. Accomplished on April 28, 2004, it did what so many other runs of the time did, amaze people. Even though a few sections were a bit sloppy, it was still amazing to see this so well-known game be completely destroyed by someone. For the next few months, Kessler and another player, Lucid Faia, went back and forth with the record. Each run that Kessler and Lucid Faia had done had been executed slightly better than the previous one. Ultimately though, Kessler would remain on top, getting an 11:10 in July of the same year. Years passed and nobody could beat Kessler's 11:10. (The audio captions were sort of bad in the introduction, here's the corrected one. Compare with your script?)

I'm just going to throw this out there as this is my speed game but not my category, and even though I really enjoy the content you make, you've gotten much better with time and this one is feeling just a little dated. It'd be awesome if you did a history on the 96 exit category, and the people who run it would be more than willing to help you you out with any details, I can pretty much guarantee that. There's so many cool tricks to talk about. People complain that the cape makes things dull sometimes, but there's plenty of things that only happen with its help, Morton Fly and Zips to name a few. Just poke into the discord and talk to pretty much anyone, they're all cool but dots, dolphins, and bramz all have pretty insane knowledge and experience in the game and are around a lot. If not 96, NCNSW is another good choice, and has a bunch of different tricks since the cape is foregone. I hope you consider it as this game is just great and I'd like to see your take on some more of the history.

A bit of criticism: These videos would be better if they focused more on the differences in execution rather than just the final times, and if they gave a better rundown of the route and difficult areas, rather than just the major discoveries. This video and the Mario 64 one spend a lot of time re-watching Mario vs Bowser fights repeatedly and saying names and times. To me, skills are way more interesting than names and times.
