Birds trapped down chimneys are a relatively common call for our rescuers, but finding a peregrine falcon staring back at you is definitely a first for us!
After falling down an enclosed chimney, this young peregrine had become trapped inside the brickwork of a house. Amazingly, the homeowners did not mind the damage and, with chisel in hand, Simon soon had the bird free.
However, the chimney had taken its toll and its rehabilitation journey had only just started...

I’m always really glad when people don’t mind causing a bit of damage to their house to save an animal. It might be a pain but damage can always be repaired
@ShadeSlayer1911
@ShadeSlayer1911 3 жыл бұрын
Well you absolutely don't want a dead animal rotting in your walls or chimney. You'd have the damage it anyway to get the dead body out, and then you have to deal with the smell. So really it makes all the sense to do the damage early and prevent having the deal with a dead rotting animal body. Damage like that doesn't seem like it'd be hard to repair anyway.
@RandiPoitras
@RandiPoitras 3 жыл бұрын
Logical, but that doesnt mean there arent people out there who wouldnt care if the animal died because they didnt want the damage done. Im sure theyre the minority but im also sure that theyre out there.
@ShadeSlayer1911
@ShadeSlayer1911 3 жыл бұрын
@@RandiPoitras Like I said, you don't even have to care about the animal for it to be entirely logical to let them break down the wall to let the animal out. It's more trouble for later anyway.

Had a sparrowhawk fly into our front room window just yesterday. Scared the bejusus out of me. Went out side expecting to find a dead rook or blackbird and found it lying dazed on the floor. Luckily after half an hour or so sitting quietly in a cardboard box it flew off as if nothing had happened😊. Love the channel, keep up the good work

We once had the same with a woodpecker. It flew against a window and was lying in the hot sun, stunned. I think it even bled a bit, which is a bad sign in animals with so few blood. It was heavily breathing, though, so we put it in a box and put some water next to it. After 15 minutes or so it got up and drank a bit of water, then went back into its delirium. After 30 minutes it suddenly tensed up, looking around, gasping for air and jumped out of the box (it had two open sides). Luckily there was a window that went down to the floor right next to where we put it, so it hopped to the window, which we opened hastily. It flew out of the window, nearly crashing into the nearby fence. Fortunately, it managed to pull itself up just high enough to not do that. After that, it seemed to get control over its flight again, pulling further up and landing in a tree. I hope it was okay. What is still fascinating to me is how you just noticed when it first began noticing its surroundings. It looked around and then thought "Where am I? What is all this?!" I wonder what it perceived when it got up to drink. It had to have enough perception to notice the water, which must have tasted weird for the bird, but not enough to understand where it was. I'd really like to know what the bird felt in that moment.

I was waiting for a train and the wind was blustering, the storm was coming and it blew a red Tailed Hawk female into a building and she came down right next to me as we stood on the platform for the train to arrive. The train came and scared her into the roadway and the rain came and so I stood with her under the umbrella and kept the cars away as I awaited the animal control unit in Dallas Texas. Fortunately they showed up after about an hour and it was nice , people drove around her and eventually a guy in a van just parked it behind us and motioned the cars around us. The animal control people took the hawk to the Audubon Center just south of Dallas and they found she had dislocated her shoulder and they nurserd her back to health and released her.

carry a drill around with you for jobs like this, the cement is quite sandy and drills away easily, saving the brick while making a very nice smooth hole for the bird , then less damage for customer

@@wildlifeaid If this video is anything to go by, then, yes, I do love the content. If only I knew how to teach road sense to the Kangaroos and wombats here in Australia. I only say that as I've helped out my fair share of infants orphaned through road collisions. Such a sweet tear to the eye when you see them then thrive back out in the wild where they belong.

Lovely to hear an expert point out it's problems and requirements. I feel sure the bird will be as good as new in his safe hands.
