Drummers are detailed off to carry the Colour Cases whilst the colours are being paraded uncased, e.g. on Guard Mounts. As the colours are lodged in St James' Palace, and the Drummers are quartered in Wellington Barracks, they have to make their way across in advance of the main event. Being stopped by tourists for a photo en route is quite commonplace. More duty, more honour 🙂

Whenever they're not on duty,they're just like a cosplayer. But never messed with them when they were on duty,some people learned that the hard way

I dont know i wouldnt have bothered them they are gaurds and may have had someplace to be just feel disrespectful but then again i dont know really know their protocol

I was a Wren..off duty we had meals ..kept our area of the communal living quarters tidy..kept kit smart...left wrens quarters to socialise in the NAFFI, or camp cinema...went 'ashore" shopping wherever, in Helston, beach trips, pubs, I played in musicals..babysat for officers from the Tower. In Whitehall after work taken back to WRNS quarters after a watch, time was our own shopping, clubbing cinema.. just watching TV in TV lounge...playing records with other girls in lounge...out on dates with single sailors ..get kit ready for next wearing..each week get quarters cleaned for officer's inspection with white gloves on...only square bashing for Wrens in basic and trade training..more for exercise than skill. I relaxed doing rifle shooting at the indoor range whilst in training for communications branch...basically a normal job but in uniform and a need to perform to highest standards, but free time was good depending on where one was stationed. I had a clear voice sonin Fleet Air Arm worked in the tower in Cornwall on voice work..pretty exciting for a 19 year old. Not all spit and polish but in the Guards poor dears there is rather a lot, but as when based in Whitehall I went out with several young Guardsmen from Chelsea Barracks...can assure the disappointed ladies..that they still had time off to go places and make whoopee in their own dances and around town in London. Happy days...Brother was in the Grenadiers so had the army and navy covered between us....
