I’ve recently came back to the channel and this is the second video I’ve seen in awhile. How much you have change over the years from basically starting from scratch to now living the dreams you always wanted. You’re honestly a inspiring person to me honestly with the knowledge and love you have for your weapons to the funny and goofy person you are. I just want to it’s been a honour watching your whole channel grow.

The owner of Stealth Armor Systems is the original designer of Dragon Skin. Basically he reacquired the patent rights and improved it with "newest" generation of materials and adhesives. Unfortunately the Dragon Skin name is sullied by Pinnacle (and the much lesser known manufacturers that tried producing Dragon Skin after Pinnacle went belly up), so people base on their knowledge on a outdated story and try to apply it to Dragon Skin 2022. Edit: to clarify, the designer sold the design to Pinnacle who produced it and eventually died after the whole drama. Various manufacturers intermittently produced it in small quantities, the original designer started Stealth Armor Systems and eventually reacquired the rights to Dragon Skin and revised it to the 2022 version.

@allanbain7930
@allanbain7930 Жыл бұрын
What I was impressed with was the lack of a real depression on the other side of the Lapua impact. Thats a lot of kinetic energy, it looked very survivable. On that hit with the steel core AK, it was a very tight shot on these tiles, looked like an 1", I know from doing a lot of test shooting on armor over 35 years that once you get that close of any kind of ceramic armor the probabilities go down on a close quarter shot especially a steel core bullet. A lot of people look back on that future weapons video and saw the level 3 Dragon Skin stop tons of AK rounds. What they don't know was that was pre silicon carbide SOV 2000 technology, for a short period of time and for that particular vest the Dragon Skin tiles were made of Titanium Alloy, and metal is much tougher than ceramic, but not nearly as hard. The reason for switching to ceramic was weight, as even titanium is much heavier than silicon or boron carbide ceramic. Also, the ceramic addresses hard core rounds better. The other thing about that Future Weapons video they were using lead core FMJ AK rounds. On metal they just mushroom and leave a small ding. Thats how they were able to take 100 rounds, but that technology was discontinued after a short run in favor of silicon carbide ceramic. The very first Dragon Skin back in 1998 was made of Steel tiles, and that was replaced by Alumina Oxide Ceramic tiles in 1999 - 2001. Then came a 1/2 generation of zirconia/alumina hybrid tiles, and then the Titanium Alloy in 2002 - 2003, and then finally Pinnacle moved into Silicon Carbide. FYI!

As someone who's been in the ballistic armor industry, what do you see as the newest developments in armor materials? Mixed carbide sintering? Functionally graded nanomaterials?
@allanbain7930
@allanbain7930 Жыл бұрын
@@majordakka5743 Depends on the market, those materials at least in the near future are super expensive. I remember 20 years ago I gasp at the first price quote I received for wanting to use Boron Carbide, now it's not so bad and the only B4C that is still pricey is the HIP'ed stuff (Hot Iso-static Press). Densification of the matrix has added better performance for B4C as well as SiC. I know that Diamond Edge has tried some things with SiCTiB2 hybrid. This has some good performance without the weight or cost increase that B4C has. There have been numerous tests on nanotube infusion of B4C, and host of others. I would say for now you will see premium densified B4C come down in price further since it's fairly commercialized, and the densification process has really upped it's performance at thinner tiles. I really good B4C can work in a level 4 plate at 8mm, where it used to take 10mm. Since it's already commercialized I see that as a trend moving forward also better textiles are in the works for the next generation. SB117 and Spectra 5128 have been on the market now There will be a new fiber coming that's even better at least in the UDPE product-line, aramid doesn't really have any real generational increases left, maybe the return Zylon that has the kinks worked out so it doesn't require super special handling and packaging to work for 5 years. I know we had no issues with t and it's because we used a true one way membrane bagging system, so hot moist air left, but didn't come back. We tested a 5 year old vest and it worked well. It also might be because we didn't try and cheapy it up like Second Chance did. Design work will also play a roll, you can see that in our DS 3.0, The edge. Essentially when money isn't the issue and we can use what we want and do every advanced process because the price tag is out there, not many takers for that, but we have sold a couple, some people have lots of money and want the absolute best you can get. So after all that jibber jabber, even on high performance and new design concepts I think it's really about the taking what is commercialized and making it cheaper and better.

We did that with a label maker once when I was in junior high. We started outside school and then just put a label on (almost) everything that we passed on the way home. I mean "TREE" only made it on to one tree because who needs that kind of redundancy. There was "MAN HOLE", which I know Matt can appreciate. I think it's crazy that this armor keeps coming back. This design is literally thousands of years old. Before they had the technology to forge solid breastplates, they used something called lamellar armor, lots of small plates that overlapped. Then in the 14th century or so, it came back as the brigandine, which put the plates on the inside of a vest. Now we see dragon skin. Literally every culture from Japan through western Europe used a form of this armor at some point in history.

Was actually looking into this armor a few weeks ago. According to what I could find the original dragonskin armor failed military testing due to rounds getting through the overlapping plates missing them completely.

It was a fiasco of possible politics, possible failure, and unproven environment testing.

from what i could see on the wiki, it seemed due to mostly politics and classified testing data that im not sure if they released or not? there was a lot of weird stuff.

I read it was related to it not being able to operate at temperatures of 80 degrees C+. But I was sat there reading that thinking no soldier could operate at that temperature either, they'd be cooked...

@@glenpeters9388 In Vietnam, Khe Sanh, specifically, they made Marines throw their flak vests in a pile because so many soldiers were passing out from heatstroke. However, that's a different issue from the armor actually breaking down. If the armor fails after being cooked, something as simple as keeping it in a hot AFV could render it ineffective permanently.

@@glenpeters9388 Soldiers could absolutely be exposed to that and higher temperatures, though. If, for example, your vehicle is hit and catches fire, suddenly 176 degrees is child's play. You won't be there long, but you may be there long enough to ruin your body armor.

Hey Matt saw you were showing the med kits and I wondered if the non minimum pack included a Kentucky Ballistics thumb to stop those nasty gun fails that only that could fix lol

The best armor is probably top secret and reserved for extreme situations. They wouldn't risk enemies getting they're hands on it.

Hey Matt! Did you send Kentucky Ballistics one of those kits to keep on hand? Or is he just gonna stick with the old trusty thumb if he needs to again? Hopefully none of y’all will need it but better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it. Keep up the great content team!!

Bruh, taking a sponsored link for a med kid on a shot like this? Total bro move, you are showing yourself to be a safety bro and I 100% approve. For everyone else, be a bro and bring a medkit to the range, probably never going to be needed but you might save someones life, or their hand, be this level of bro!

What's funny about you getting a Mjolnir is I have always thought of you as the Thor of the GunTuber community, Brandon Herrera very much fits the Tony Stark cocky, quirky drinker vibe, Scott from KB loves to smash things like the Hulk, Garrand Thumb has the on screen demeanor of Captain America, Admin Results is very much a Deadpool, and I'm sure at some point Alex Xedra did the Black Widow cosplay thing. Sometimes you guys fit those personas so well, I almost think its intentional.

Have you thought about using chalk to circle entry holes or colour tape so you can see where you’ve hit before at a bit of a distance ?
