As a Taiwanese, we are very proud of both our airlines: China Airlines and EVA Air. China Airlines has improved so much. The design of the cabin really catch everyone eyes when get on-board the aircraft. Great job!

Actually CI started this route initially departing ONT during the day. However, during the day, this route did not do very well and CI changed it up to depart in the evening.

I’ve flown TPE-ONT on an A350! when I found a way to get from Hanoi to Ontario with ONE stop I was shocked. people didn’t believe me when I said this route existed lol. Arrival was light years easier than at LAX. Also given that LAX is much more well known, my flight was pretty empty.

Ontario is actually a pretty good airport. Much better than LAX, which completely sucks. I used to fly Southwest there a lot back in the day. A lot of Chinese/Taiwanese live in and around Ontario area, but yeah that's a bit surprising (and awesome!) they get such a long haul flight from a regional airport. Hats off to Julie for making up a meal for you! That's service!

Flying from places like ONT is great! This route may be less random than it seems, however. The east LA area is the import hub for a lot of computer equipment (consumer and enterprise) that is designed and made in Taiwan.

Ontario Airport is absolutely amazing. I live less than a mile away and I can get from my apartment onto a plane in under 45 mins

The population of Burbank, California is 104,834. But the population of Los Angeles County is over 10 million. San Bernardino County has over 2 million, mostly concentrated in the west of the county, near ONT. The market is very much there.

Erik Griswold was just about to make this comment until I saw yours. I don’t think people who aren’t from around Southern Ca quite understand just how big the LA basin is. Don’t forget about Orange Counties population of 3 million people as well. We are very close to ONT.

Secondary airports are somehow interesting.. CI also flies to LGW instead of LHR but i guess that’s a matter of slot.. nice report as always

LGW is further away from city, but the time needed to go thru immigration is much less than LHR imao.... last time I just needed around 5-10 mins to do tax refund (basically no one was in the queue), and another 5 min to go thru security check.. that's it.

@@jasonpolaris LGW is a nicer airport, imo, a bit further out than LHR but the rail connection is fast and frequent. STN ( London Stansted) is even further out but also has good train connections to central London, as do LTN (London Luton) and SEN (London Southend). LCY (London City) is actually fairly near central London with good public transport options.

Am I the only one who immediately checks the description for *when* Dan took a particular flight? Obviously quite a few geniuses commenting about COVID-19 don’t 😐 Anyways... really enjoy “random” routes like this. Didn’t know about this flight and enjoyed the info at the end of the video as well! P.S. I also love watching vlogs of 5th freedom routes but I feel like those are being cut more and more (or perhaps I’m just basing that on my home airport).

I am always feeling so sad for people that have allergies or eating disorders. It could have really ruined the experience. So glad you could get through it painlessly.

It's about cargo, passenger's are secondary. ONT and it's surrounds are a big cargo/logistics hub. China Airlines has a cargo contract with UPS. UPS west coast air freight hub is at ONT. UPS urgent freight flies direct on China Airlines to TPE rather than on UPS metal via it's own Pacific hubs in HNL and ANC.

Thanks for this video. I love China Airlines and fly them over Korean Air even though I live in Seoul, SK. I’d never would have considered flying into ONT. I usually fly into LAX when I visit the USA and I abhor that place. I think it would be great if you could feature more random flights like this. Most people will just fly in and out of the Big airports when going overseas like LAX, JFK, or SFO. Keep up posting those phenomenal videos.

My original airport! I've flown from there since they had the old brick building and people still smoked on planes. I've noticed "that airline" there before, sitting on the stands (I won't ruin the surprise for others), so because you said it was a 15-hour long-haul, as soon as I saw the view of the ceiling and baggage area, I knew who you were flying and where you were going! Congrats, this looks amazing! And this makes me appreciate the airport even more. :)

2:50 view reminds me back at RSW(Ft.Myers FL) back in March of 2019 seeing my plane a Air Canada Rouge 767-300ER heading to Toronto-Pearson and right beside it was a Eurowings A330 heading to Düsseldorf. Across the hall of the terminal where a lot of smaller planes A320’s, 737’s etc

I live in SoCal and there have been a lot of politics in the past 10 years behind ONT getting international flights... finally happening and I'm so glad it is, it's a nightmare to fly out of LAX from any terminal (although TBIT makes it a nice experience airside).

CI treated you well! Had a similar experience in Economy on QR, had a bit of a stomach bug, and the flight attendants treating me like royalty, making up meals that wouldn't upset my system further by robbing from Business Class and Staff meals. Also left I good review and let the airline know directly. Good service deserves to be rewarded, for sure!

As a higher tier member of CI I also find their F/A is really nice and love their job. This flight was originally planned and (might be) subsidize by local government of ONT. The loading before is less than 80%, however after some big sales and people have had enough with LAX like traffic, long queue etc etc (where Chinese/Taiwanese mostly stayed in Eastern part of LA) people start flying this route and CI start making profit on this route. Then the gone CI5/6 LAX-TPE pair came back and I remember now they are having promotion on this route. And I remember one special meal (only available pre-reserve online) with chicken is really nice.

Hey dan glad to see you made a video on this flight! But as an LA native, I have to say if you live in Burbank, or DTLA, getting to Ontario will take a very long time and LAX is still a much better airport to fly out of compared to Ontario. However very much spot on with Pomona and Claremont being convenient for ONT. lovely video!

I guess it depends on the traffic situation at LAX and/or the foot traffic in the terminal. Being on the plane at TBIT 30 minutes after arriving at the airport must be unheard of at LAX?

Nonstop Dan certainly ive always been out within 15 minutes of touchdown. Few rare instances when landing on intercontinental flights in peak hours that it’s been more than 30 since we’ve had to park at the remote gates at the west end. Though with the new TBIT concourse inbound soon, this won’t be an issue for much longer.

Nice Video...fun fact - this plane, B-18002 was the plane we at Boeing took to the Paris Air Show in 2015 prior to delivery under registration number N5017Q and I got to fly on this beautiful jet to and from Paris.

usually its 14, this might have been when the westbound pacific tracks where verry southern to avoid bad weather. They usually fly over Alaska but they may have flown around where Hawaii is

I live in Fontana, 15 min away. And let me tell you. This airport is so cheap and easy to use which surprises me why others don't take advantage of it. Given it's quite a distance from LA but still. And the second I saw the drop-off area I knew you were talking about KONT to Taipei lmao. Appreciate you making content about my home airport.

Asian airlines like CI, SQ, BR, will GO OUT OF THEIR way to take care of their passengers. If this happened on United or British Airways- the crew will be like "Here's a bag of chips and some lettuce".

I once did some touch and gos at Ontario in a Cessna. It was pretty cool because whilst I was doing circuits on the left runway, 737s were taking off from the other runway next to the terminal. I think I know why this flight is popular - at the hotel I stayed in near El Monte/Pasadena the newspaper was in Chinese and the whole area was full of Taiwanese people. It's probably a much shorter drive from that area to Ontario and I bet parking is easier and cheaper as well.

I've been flying China Airlines from LA to Taipei literally my whole life since my family has been long time loyalty members. My dad literally refuses to fly any other airline to and from Taiwan. When they switched to Ontario, I actually preferred it because LAX can be such a headache with the traffic and crowds. The only downside is the lounge(s) in Ontario. The CI one is basically just a separate small waiting area with snacks and comfy armchairs. It's been a while since I've flown from there but I think they were going to renovate and make a nicer lounge. But if you have Amex, their lounge looks nicer. Unfortunately there's no Priority Pass lounge. But the lounge is not a dealbreaker since the CI lounge at LAX is combined with lots of other airlines, making it larger but not much different. When CI first rolled out their new cabin designs, I was so impressed! Such nice decor and such a huge improvement from their older design! Although they took away first class but added premium economy. Their amenity kits are pretty nice and premium economy gets one too! But I definitely agree there are many ways they could improve on a nice product already to make them even greater!

I have a window view of The approach path of Ontario and occasionally I’ll see the China airlines. At one point it was serviced by an a350. looks like a 777 now

Dan, great vlog! Big mistake, ONT is NOT east LA. As a born & raised SoCali, we do not affiliate ONT with LA at all since it's in San Berdoo (San Bernardino) county. Only a fool would ever think of taking an Uber or taxi from Claremont to LAX. No disrespect, but, you're incorrect for even mentioning LA at all, ONT is over 55 miles and nearly 2 hours from from LAX. ONT was a part of LAX until around early 2000's when they separated. ONT is an international airport, not a regional. Yes it's easier than LAX, but, LGB & SNA are far superior. Great flight review, keep 'em coming bud!
