In the early 2000s, my grandpa (who raised me) and I flicked through the German TV channels and randomly stopped at a Eurosport broadcast of Snooker. We had no idea what exactly was going on and only continued to watch because of the great commentary of Rolf Kalb. He knew exactly how to draw you into it, even if you were a complete stranger to the game. Once we understood the rules, my grandpa and I developed a great love for the sport and spent many wonderful hours in front of the TV watching Snooker. My grandpa passed away in 2011 when I was 17 and one of the things I wrote in the letter that I put into his coffin was how much I was gonna miss watching Snooker with him. I then couldn't get myself to watch it by myself for a while, until I started to regain interest several years later. Everytime I saw our favourite players and heard the voice of Rolf Kalb, it felt like my grandpa was still sitting next to me on the couch, following the game in silence. I got very emotional listening to the commentary of Rolf Kalb for the very last time today. Thank you, Rolf, for introducing us to this amazing sport and for providing us with so many unforgettable memories. Wishing you and your family all the best!

Danke Rolf Kalb. Anfang 90- iger habe ich die ersten Begegnungen mit Snooker gemacht und während über 30 Jahre waren sie die ruhige, kompetente Stimme beim Snooker. So viele Erinnerungen verknüpfe ich mit den stundenlagen Sessions vor dem TV. Sie waren schlicht fantastisch. Alles Gute für sie.

Absolut verdient die Lobeshymnen der Snookerstars auf Rolf Kalb. Über Jahrzehnte hinweg hat er dafür gesorgt, daß in Deutschland Snooker populär geworden ist. Seine Hingabe für diesen Sport ist legendär und umsomehr hat er den Ruhestand verdient. Mach es gut Rolf!

Rolf is a living legend for the german snooker community! He’s always held close contact to the fans and not only took care of commenting but also of master of ceremony duties for all exhibition and ranking events on german speaking soil for dozens of years. It’s hard to imagine somebody who’s had a bigger influence on an unknown sport in a country without being an active and successful competitor. I once met Rolf at the final of the European Masters. He enjoyed talking to every fan, taking pictures and the likes. Between the session he joined me and my buddy standing around a table, drinking a wine spritzer and taking about the afternoon session. Great guy! He’s been a regular guest in my living room for decades and watching snooker without him will not be as fun going forward.

awwwwww😭 I live in Germany and only got to Snooker because of my friend who played Jimmy White Snooker on the Computer believing this is just a Computer Game. Then he saw it on Eurosport and said: "This is real?" From then he bought a cue and played whenever he could, when we met he dragged me into Snooker pretty quickly. From that point on I was watching on Eurosport with Rolf Kalb. We were one of the first people to join the Snooker Club in Cologne Germany and were happy to see a Snooker scnene build in our hometown. If it weren't for Eurosport and how popular Rolf Kalb made it in Germany we would have never started. Players in Germany lovingly call him _Uncle Rolf_ . All the best

Es war Anfang der 90er als ich die Faszination Snooker auf Eurosport entdeckt habe. Seitdem hat Rolf Kalb über 30 Jahre lang die Reise durch diesen faszinierenden Sport begleitet und war Stammgast in vielen Wohnzimmern. Nun geht eine Ära zu Ende. Das ist zwar einerseits traurig aber meine besten Wünsche begleiten Rolf Kalb ☺️

Because of his voice I started to watch Snooker, always so calm and pleasent to the ears. All German Snooker fans will miss Rolf. Enjoy your retirement! I remember having a beer with Rolf and Ken Doherty at an exhibition, a day I will never forget because it was the first time ever that i played Snooker. My first frame ever was against Ken Doherty and Rolf was commentating 😊

Dear Rolf, esteemed Mr. Kalb, knowing that your voice will be missing from now on really makes me a little sad. It was you, who over the last 4 years, instantly brought me into this, made me a die hard snooker fan. Your pleasant voice, your knowledge, coupled with the anecdotes about the individual players, the game, the venues, the history... I will really miss all of that. For the last 4 years, it was as if I had brought a good acquaintance, a dear friend, onto the couch every evening when snooker tournaments were being played, to spend the evening in your pleasant company and have fantastic conversations. My greatest thanks and deepest respect for your performance and your enthusiasm, which cannot be appreciated and honored highly enough. Bye Rolf, take care Mr. Kalb and all the best to you. Wie so einige andere auch bin ich vor vielen Jahren beim Herumzappen auf Snooker gestossen, ein Sport von dem ich keine Ahnung hatte das er überhaupt existiert. Aber da war diese Stimme. Viele Jahre später und viele viele Stunden und Matches später die ich mit dem Kommentar von Rolf Kalb erlebt und mitgefiebert habe geht nun eine Ära zu Ende. Ein Match sachlich kommentieren können viele. Aber diese Mischung aus Witz, Anekdoten und Leidenschaft von einer sehr angenehmen Stimme wird es so schnell nicht wieder geben. Für Snooker-Deutschland ein herber Verlust, für Rolf Kalb der Beginn eines hochverdienten und hoffentlich wunderschönen Ruhestandes. Danke lieber Rolf.

Als ich vor 20 Jahren angefangen habe mich für Snooker zu interessieren, war Rolf schon die deutsche Snooker-Stimme. Sein Einfluss auf Snooker in Deutschland ist nicht zu unterschätzen.

Ich bin traurig 😞 Snooker ohne Rolf, nicht vorstellbar.
