It always amazes me how they can eyeball the lace rivets straight up the center using that tool just to measure distance.

When did you stop stamping the Nicks logo into the leather?

That logo is only on Nicks work boot models like BP, HotShot, etc. Heritage boots get a tag inside the boot.

It was weird. I hit up Nicks customer service, and asked to buy this exact boot. I verified to make sure I was getting a logo-less boot just like this here- Heritage style - they could not do it for me they said, all boots this height get stamped - somehow except for this one…. It Confused me as a paying customer tbh but hey still very excited!

Me too lol. If the economy wasn’t so fucked up right now and inflation wasn’t eating away at my savings I would have already pulled the trigger. It sucks not being able to just buy what I want to buy, especially when I really want to support an American company like Nicks, but I guess I’ll just have to hold off until the time is right some day.

On part of the sole, what's the dark colored stuff they put on in the shape of a U ? Is it dye or another type of glue? If dye, what's the purpose?

that is dye. They put it on then so you don't have to do it allot more carefully later in the process.

Don't like the fake moc toe. For all the trouble you go through to make custom boots why not do a true moc toe?

i believe they said they chose this route to eliminate a potential failure point. if you use separate pieces and the thread is cut you now have a hole, this way even if you lose the moc stitch your boot integrity is not lost

Out of all my years of wearing red wing or thorogood moc toes to work that has never been a failure point. The idea of a true moc toe aside from the look is the larger toe box and this just bunches up leather with stitching and doesn't give as large of a toe box and to me doesn't look as good.
