Yet another video game based off of a comic series that made its first debut back in 1931.
The game has decent gameplay but the difficulty is quite troublesome due to how fast the enemies start attacking you once you appear on the screen. As most folks probably already know, you only have one life to get through each case and very few first aid kits found throughout the levels. -

L.A. Noire picked up the pieces years later and turned up as one of the greatest games of all time. Seriously, this game had so much potential!

The idea is great but not pulled of well. I understand why the snipers are there, otherwise it would be boring to drive from place to place with nothing happening, it would be pointless. But they could at least add power ups to repair the car on the streets or add a separate lifebar for the car! :/ Still, if you know how to play it, it's a fun game :)

You just contradicted yourself. Truth is, this is a hard game, a frustrating one, but it is very playable. The snipers are easily taken out, once you see where they are on the rooftops.

No different than the ninja turtles and who framed roger rabbits overworld top down areas. Nearly the exact same even the music delivery, small vehicle n shooting hazards as you drive mundane empty places to go to areas that return you to 2d side scrolling.

Loved this game. Never interrogated properly. Drove like a maniac. Shot at everyone. Got killed every time. No regrets.

The First Aid power ups are like continues. You only get one life as a Private Eye. Plus you can use the combinations to fuck off and come back to the same level whenever you want. Challenging yes, but a great, great game.

One of my favorite NES games (I didn't have a lot as a kid, LOL). I guess I never got the difficulty because I remembered where all of the snipers were, and I wrote down all of the passwords and clue locations for each case. :)

I seriously love this game. Yeah, it's stoopid hard, and frustrating, but once you get into it, it's really enjoyable. It's challenging, has a pretty good soundtrack, and it's hard not to think Rockstar wasn't inspired by this game when they made L.A. Noire.

Wow you make it seem so easy... After watching the AVGN video a long time ago I actually tried to beat this game. Suffice to say I didn't get far without abusing save states. It wasn't really fun, but I wanted to see more then just the first case :/ Main issue were the snipers; I just couldn't avoid them. I like Dick tracy but this game is just... awful.

When he said what he said about Castlevania 2 and TMNT1, he became my hero. Most don't have the balls to say those games suck, but he did. He's not my inspiration, but he's definitely got courage. I'm glad he also laid into that copy of Metal Gear I gave him. That crap NES port is beyond overrated. Japan got a much better game on the MSX.

by the way, did you know that if you take false arrest or interrogate a crook who is doesn't know or involve on this case, you make take a miss. taking 3 misses will also result a game over. Unfortunely, you can't reset misses you take after you clear a Case.

the hearts in dick tracy , if you find them , are the power ups. they are endless when saved and used. thus no need for a traditional save state. aslo the passwords are the combonations to the safes.

One of my favorite games on nes besides Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 the arcade game and Turtles 3 Manhattan Project along with Double Dragon games and others had in collection. I played Dick Tracy as was a fan of the movie as a kid to and was 5 when the movie came out in 1990.

I still remember reading the Dick Tracy comics in the newspaper as a kid. It used to creep me out sometimes because there would be blood and killing and stuff I wasn't used to seeing back then, and the bad guys were really freaky-looking. :) Most comic strips today are just so lame, especially without Calvin and Hobbes or even Peanuts. :(

The weird thing that didn't make sense here is that, on the movie Breathless Mahoney was the villain "The Blank" but here on the game in the "Mugshots", it shows both "The Blank" and Breathless Mahoney in two different pictures at 1:02:45.

All this game's other replete flaws aside, you'd think roof snipers would have pre-Miranda cops moving out in force. BTW, Tracy? You failed to take out the corrupt DA, but luckily he tripped over an Ottoman when his wife tossed her hat into the air. He's been forced to take a job as a night watchman at a museum, working days as a chimney sweep.

Big Boy Caprice had a huge criminal empire going on at that time. The cops were having a hard time dealing with him. Which is why Tracy got the assignment. He's one of the few in the entire criminal justice system that's incorruptible. Such people tend to piss off drug lords, crime bosses, the Mafia etc. For any cop, getting enough solid evidence to put the leader of an organized crime syndicate away for a long time is a daunting task.

Trying to play as many as I can possibly stand before moving onto the next console but a lot of these were games I played as a kid and could never quite beat due to my comprehension level being a tad bit low at that age. ~JagOfTroy
