i worked at the biggest engine rebuilding plant in north america. he had a couple of engine cleaning booth. they worked like this: -rotating sprayer like a dishwasher spinning inside -boiling and steaming water inside the cabinet for about 1hour -we added what looked like either dishwashing or clothes washing powder inside -the engine part were on a stainless rack that would rotate inside

Jim, what an awesome bit of kit! I have been looking at a blasting cabinet and watching this video has just made my mind up into doing something similar. I am looking to build a workshop in the coming months and this is definitely going to to be included in the plans. I look forward to watching the videos once you've edited them on how you constructed it but, in the meantime, I will do some research on the individual components so I won't be completely pilfering your idea. Simple rotary switch like you find in a DIY car wash, a power supply, a plc, a few motorized ball valves, a few LEDs and a bit of programming and you are off to the races

This is amazing. I built a vapor blast cabinet and was given a commercial parts washer that I use a bucket heater with but this is a whole other level.

I’m loving your cleaning station, and am in the process of designing building something similar. One thing I’ll add is some magnets! Your door flap, a few magnets to hold it up out of the way for load/unload as well as when down. Some magnets for the gloves to hold them out of the way when desired as well.

Looks good Jim it will certainly stand you in good stead and make rebuilds quicker to turn around. Dont forget to label your buttons before you press the wrong one.

That rubber idea is one of those kiss moments you go WTF did i not think of that, going to use that for my both my dry and vapor blaster. Also the post cleaning process is well thought out it always pains me trying to get those few bits of glass off after a clean. Think at somestage i will build an all in one machine as saves so much space. :) Great video

Oh my god! You sir are a genius. I have been looking at various video’s recently on making your own vapour cabinet, but this just blows them all out of the water! Have you changed anything or improved it further, would love to know. Plus if you have a list of parts available I’m sure you would get your hand bitten off for it. Well done Jim.

Brilliant bit of kit that.

I’m sure you can even cut the mat in two or three just make each part slightly bleeding on each other and i’ll be easier to put and remove item from it. But whoa just amazing job until then I was still hesitating paying big money for one from famous vb brand or build one myself, now I’ll definitely go to the diy version !

Three years later and I am curious if you have set up the electrically controlled ball valves. I would really love to see that.

have you tried, after cleaning it all up, use stainless ball media to peen the surface? the idea is that, that exhaust side in particular looked quite porous (due to surface corrosion of aluminium), and glass bead at best just cleans it up, but stainless might be heavy enough to level it out, make it smoother, less prone to catching dirt and corroding?

Just do solenoid or motor valves with rocker or push button switches first man lol. The rubber covered rocker switches are pretty nice and would be suitable for this thing I would think. Im going to build an automated or some type of parts washer soon. Been collecting parts for awhile. Nice job man

Everything you did is very impressive ! Yet after trying myself and watching at the cost of everything in the end converting a dry blast cabinet can be so cheap that I would probably make three separate design with three different cabinets, which would drastically avoid cross contamination between all the media, and also help with the maintenance as all the designs are not mixed, but if you don’t have space clearly you did a « monster » here 😂

A computer to control your valves is a very complicated solution to a challenge that could be solved by a well written index card instruction sheet. Brass valves will last longer

Would love to see the follow up video on your design.

Love the idea. Nice job! I think I need to do this. One suggestion...use water tight switches installed INSIDE the cabinet to actuate solenoid valves to change from one operation to the next. No need to remove your hands from the gloves over and over.
