This is good, he drops a wheel on its face then kicks it. Then he doesn't check his balancing and finally he guns the bolts on probably stripping the threads and not checking the torque. excellent job, well done lol.

What a load of shit. Factor in the time it took to align the car on the lift, remove the wheel trims, pick the new tyres from the stores, lubricate the new tyres and the time will be a lot slower than what he is claiming. Then also take into account that the insides of the rims were not cleaned of any caked up dust or mud, the valves were gripped with a pair of side cutters instead of using the correct screw on tool, the wheel balance wasn't rechecked after the weights were knocked on and most of the wheel bolts seemed over tightened by the pneumatic impact wrench and some he clearly over torqued by hand. This is exactly the type of tyre shop I always avoid. Oh and I nearly forgot, he didn't lead the bolts in by hand first but fired them straight in with the impact wrench, very risky!!!
@andrewcarter78667 жыл бұрын
Something most people don't get with checking the wheel nuts with a torque wrench is that you're not just making sure the wheelnuts are all on tight. You're supposed to use the torque wrench to bring them all UP to the same torque, not just put the wrench on and have it click immediately. If the video, if the torque spec was 80, the ones that tripped the wrench without having to turn them could be at 81, or 90, or 105... Even torque is appreciated when the owner doesn't have to get 3 people to stand on his wheel wrench on the side of the road to break two of the nuts loose, and by the wheelstud not twisting off. If you knock one wheel nut down TIGHT with the impact , that one nut locks the rotor into position. When you tighten down the nut opposite to that one, some of the torque is taken up by having to flex the locked rotor down so even if you're measuring it, it's a false reading anyway because it's partially taken up by flexing the rotor. Once that slightly-tweaked rotor heats up, it will expand unevenly. That causes runout, causing brake pulsation, quickly leading to "Ever since...." or "It wasn't like that before you guys had the wheels off..." And it only takes a few seconds to do the customer a solid (and your shop, by upselling) by giving the wheels a shake and stick a bar under the tire to check for a loose tie rod end, ball joint, have a quick look for worn out pads, leaking strut, etc. Maybe you're just doing 4 tires, but a week from now when the pad wear indicator starts grinding or another shop finds a bad tie rod end, the customer's first thought WILL be "I just had my car into XYZ shop, how come they didn't spot that??" Plus, if a worn out part causes some quick and nasty tire wear, he'll be back wanting a new tire because he bought them there, AND he'll feel that the worn parts should have been noticed when the tires were put on, making your shop responsible for a replacement tire, the rocker panel that's rusting through, and the headlight that burnt out yesterday. The video does show that you're quick and changing and balancing tires. I'll assume that you work a little differently in normal conditions. Not bagging on you at all....I spent a bunch of years in different jobs; some were in the shop, some were out front with the customers. I was also lucky enough to have attended some very informative seminars and each one of them taught me something that stuck.

I never have worked in this field but I am a bit OCD when it comes to the tires my family rides on. I have asked Discount Tire & Les Schwab in my area to only torque to 70ft lbs so I could take my wrench to 76. I have seen them way over torqued in the past. Even in high school a friend that worked at a dealer used his air tools to put a rim back on and my lug nuts starting popping off while driving. I was down to 2! before I got to a shop that would install 5 new threaded bolts. I just recently got around to buying a impact wrench. My lowest of the 3 settings allows for the light torque that allows me to follow up with the torque wrench. I have found though with a few vehicles that even after torquing them to 76ft lbs (69 for the subaru) that they do work a tad loose and some lugs will move a bit more before the click. Must be them settling in after a change. I usually torque them 2 or 3 times after a change or rotate.

Too slow, should have let air out of each tyre as they were removed, then the would be ready when he got back with the last tire. Unsafe airing practice, wheels should be clamped while airing. Did not check air pressure after installing valve core. Did not recheck balance of wheels. Wheel nuts being past torque is not like being torqued to proper spec. I say ( FAIL )

I'm gonna say yeah nice and fast. However. Is the pressure on all tires accurate? How about the balance? He removed the tires only after the first spin without knowing if the machine was gonna ask for more weight. And lastly, let's try that on run flats or low profile tires. You almost don't need a tire changer for those tires which makes them easier to change.

Didn't double check the balance after adding the wheel weights and there is no point in checking torque since you used an impact wrench. The click means you are AT LEAST at spec. You most likely torqued them down way too much so that the tire will be hard to change on the side of the road without a long breaker bar. At least use torque sticks. Also you're lucky you don't rip beads if you never lube them up. and why rip the valve right out? That's just asking for problems. Not a complete job. Other than that, I'm impressed with the speed.

Not bad, but world's fastest is pushing it. Nice balancing machine I never saw one like that. You should check if it gives 0 before removing the tire though. Otherwise it lacks professionalism, a human error or a malfunction can happen any time and you get an unhappy customer. Also it's nice that your tires were prepped and valve cores already removed to save time from the video. I guess with new tires you change the valves, it makes it faster to remove the air. The machine isn't the fastest on the market. Can't you prevent it from opening completely with a couple taps on the pedal when you remove a wheel? Otherwise you'd save time taking the steel wheels from the inside. After reading a few comments I finished the video and yea, he risks stripping by using the impact straight on start with the lug "bolts". I am not sure about his torque but I'm not used to torque wrenches, so I can't say. And I'd never throw my own impact like that XD No studs. I really dislike working on European cars...

I worked at a Goodyear in Fairfax VA many years ago, and we were all expected to be able to change a set of 4 tires (mount and balance) from drive in to drive out in 15 minutes. However, that included cleaning the bead area of the rim, which this guy is not doing. Also, this guy has his new tires' beads pre-lubed, which is fine. It shaves a few seconds of his time, but this is normally part of the task. One thing I used to do to save time is pry the valve stems out while the tires were still mounted on the car. As I watched this video, I could see quite a few things he coulda done to shave a few more seconds off his time. Fastest? Maybe...
