@Dean Gibbons I've had both SP1 and SP2. I have a Ducati 996 atm. The Honda's are a way better bike..

The most beautiful and the most high-tech World Superbike ever. The 2000 factory R7 with Haga on it was a weapon, turning like a 250 GP bike with 180-185 HP...

That's the first time in 17 years I've watched that! I was spectating at a local hill climb on that day, and had taped (!!) it on video for when I got home. What a treat it was . What a race. Haga on a Yam R7 was a delight to watch. As was Akira on the ZXR-750.

You don’t get circuits like this (and monza, the old hockenheim, imola, etc) or riders like this anymore! 90s world sbk racing was hands down the best time for watching racing, what with foggy, corser, gobert, chili, haga, edwards, slighty and co..... especially with motogp being totally dominated by mick doohan and one-sided races

It's what happens when factory teams step out. WRC,FIA GT,SBK, even JGTC, were probably as popular as F1 back then simply because of the factory teams.

@@deggis4 its not that, its a production based series, homologating new bikes to win races is expensive and those bikes have to be sold. unlike motogp f1 etc, thats just Thoroughbred racing machines that dont need to be sod for road use.

I would love to see either round of Sugo 2001 where Tamada won both races or Kyalami race 2 where Ben Bostrom won his first race. Either of which would be epic to relive

20 Years ago. First year of WorldSBK takeover for Leigh Diffey, before joined Speed Channel in 2002-2004, returning to 10 Motorsport in 2005-2006, returning to Speed Channel from 2007-2012 and NBC Sports on 2013-present.

Indeed could.. impossible now with a single-tyre supply and differences in electronics rules (mainly referring to BSB's standard ECU).

I'm reliving this now as I type this. Shame Leigh Diffey fell out with the BBC, as he and Steve Parrish were a great pairing (saying that, Charlie Cox and Parrish had a great rapport too). Watching Superbikes that year on BBC was what got me interested. From what I remember, BBC showed highlights of Race One and Race Two live from 2000-04.

That English commentator saying Hodgson's move was clean while he almost threw Haga on the grass without any cares. ...

It was 100% clean as there was no contact, haga locked his rear brake as he tipped the bike in. Can’t blame Hodgson for that

Where was Troy Bayliss in this race? I thought he had already joined SBK in 2000?

vaadaenmacchi he replaced foggy and started the season in AMA superbike, I’m guessing Catalora who was on foggys bike in this race was test rider but because of his results Bayliss was brought in

@@spainobmxer69 Bayliss replaced Foggy at Sugo and had a nightmare 2 DNFs from 2 races so much so he didn't want to go near the thing again hence why Cadalora was brought in for Donington but he was absolutely nowhere all weekend. Thus for Monza the following round they coaxed Bayliss back and he had a very strong showing a pair of fourth place finishes at time he was supposed to go back to AMA and ride for Vance and Hines the AMA's works Ducati team which dominated the Laguna round of the 1999 season. Rumour had it at the time John Koscinski was gonna ride the bike at Hockenheim but Ducati were so impressed with his performance that season they gave him the seat permanently.

Steffan Bowen thanks for clearing that up, I know bayliss was near AMA at this time, but I was only 8 years old in 2000 so it’s all abit hazy, even with poor results at Sugo you’d have thought he’d have raced donnington as he was the 99 BSB champ and knew the track

@@liamhayes687 yeah, but the VTR1000 was the forerunner of the SP1/2, & as far as I know it was never raced in wsbk.

@@SteeeveO I believe the SP1 and SP2 were the racing versions of the VTR1000 I think you might be referring to the VTR1000F which didn't race

@@liamhayes687 WTF guys! i owned a RC51 VTR1000 SP2. this is the full name for market. but they kept VTR1000. and RC51 SP2 for racing. it was just a way to categorize the bikes. in the manual the full name is what i've said above. this bike was a portage from racing so it's normal to keep a racing root for the name.

It was more than tires that Chili was dealing with. When Chris Walker passes him on the last lap at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="69">1:09</a>:56, Chili's front end collapses like he missed a gear.

when he lost the bike before Hodgson overtook him, i think he banged his ankle against the footpeg. you can see after when he was with medical staff next to the car on track, he was walking weird. hence why he struggled to shift in the last meters of the race. edit: it might be one of his adductors. i spotted he's showing the upper thigh spot that meets the groin area.

@@raynic1173 yes I think he did because you wouldn't have expected Walker to breeze past the way he did I actually messaged Paul Denning who ran Walker that year on the National Tyres Clarion Suzuki and the bike that Walker had was the 1999 works bike running on the teams own EFI system so for Denning and the Crescent team to beat the works Suzuki's was a big achievement

I bought all the DVD Collection of these great years in WSB.....Very dissapointed as all the great commentary has gone by Keith and Julian....replaced by post race commentary and it's almost unwatchable....such a shame.
