I’m glad you made this video. First watched it a couple weeks after ordering an amp from you. I was already skeptical about the accuracy of the cheap Astatic swr/watt meter and my Anytone 6666’s and internal meter. I didn’t want to spend more money but I also didn’t want to risk blowing a new amp. So I bought a rig expert AA35. And I’m glad I did cause both the Astatic and my radios swr meter were off. Not by a whole lot but enough to cook an amp. Plus all the features and information the rig expert provides is very helpful. I like being able to see exactly what frequency has the lowest swr. If you’re going to be running a high power radio and or an amp definitely worth the money. It’s a must have.

Good info. Thanks. I like seeing the numbers and information the way you present it instead of just people out there spouting theory about what will and won't affect SWR and signal, etc.

Where have I seen that little black 2 pill amp before? 🤔 I have warranty my tube amps back in the day, ask No Pity…3CX10,000a7 replaced with new tube. I wonder if the handle rustlers who took my name gave my warranty as well🤔

I see this is some old video so I hoe you still monitor it. I have a President George FCC, Palomar 250 (form new-old stock), Tram 1498, 50feet of rg8x. The radio by itself will go to 1.0 ch1 and 1.0 to 1.1 on ch40. Add the (pill box) inline and the numbers go to 2.4 and 2.7. When I start talking the radio times out as the SWR hits 3.0. I have tried jumper wires in length from 6 inch, 12", 2 feet, 3 feet, 8 feet, 18 feet and 50 feet...all with similar HI SWR. What I wonder is if I give up on this radio which I ma NOT liking very much and maybe go to a real radio, a 10 meter radio tuned to be on the cb band, could that be the way to go? I am not mobile with the radio, it is being used as a base unit. I seem to need a little bit more talk power when on skip as others say the hear me but not loud enough.

Hey Rooster. I have a kl203p, I hooked it up to my pres. Mckinley. My swr on radio and on seperate meter are always 1.1 or 1.2, after I hook up amp it goes to a 3 plus. Any ideas.

Dumb question; can the RigExpert aa650 zoom connect to the output of a radio that is keyed up? Never thought about it until now. I get mine Monday and was only thinking of using it for antenna tuning and cable testing. I’ll have to check the specs and read the manual. I’m not using amps.

Manufacturer warranties are meant for defects in manufacturing, NOT customer mistakes. You blow it up, you eat the repair, it's as simple as that.

My radios, quad 6 and FT 891 run on a siro 5/8 wave vertical and without the amps, use 2 , both SWR go up when using the amp(s). So without amp swr is 1:2 to 1:5 amp on set increases to 2:1 to 2:3. I've checked just the antenna and coax is 1:2 to 1:3 max. I use th Palomar 90 at 2:2 at around 100-125 watts and don't get long winded so so far so good. I took the workman out of line ,after amp, now but how can you check the amp to antenna for output power and set without a meter ?

I blew up my pills and transistors because of dust getting into the box 🙄. I had a 1.1 swr on a 6 pill fatboy mobile amp. Galaxy dx94hp set at 1.0 swr. My technician set the amp up first and then put the galaxy in line.
@TWOSU_NEWS3 жыл бұрын
So..let me ask you a question that no body likes to answers. You say 1.3 swr...is that from the antenna jack at the amp, or is that with the amp in line from the radio

I had a buddy of mine who purchased an antenna and a 2 pill amp from a cb shop they set the swr and installed the whole setup for him about two weeks later the two pill a blew up even though they installed everything they would not warrantied the box to me that's total BS especially if they did the install
@Rooster_Radio2 жыл бұрын
Still too many variables that could have caused the amplifier to blow, outside of the install. There isn't a single amp builder in the country that will warranty amplifiers or the transistors inside them, so why would the CB shop that is just a reseller/dealer?

Yes almost all kl amps can only take 2 to 3 input the smaller the amp the more specific the input take Frome me I stocked up on the rm 3 transistors and did number exchanges at output radio level of 3 or even 4 found best keyup at 1 1/2 and swing to 4. 5 on peaks

How long do you like your jumpers between equipment rooster? Radio to amp to meter? And antenna line Ive heard multilples of 12ft, multiples of 11ft. Throw away 3 ft jumpers use 6, 9 or 12ft. Awesome articles here. www.radiomods.co.nz/coaxlength.html www.radiomods.co.nz/radiomath.html
@Rooster_Radio3 жыл бұрын
I use 6ft. But my antenna was tuned without a full run of coax, actually used a halfwave so coax length and jumper length doesn't effect my swr. I won't run 3ft or less because seems they cause oscillating issues with opportunity
@RC-Heli8353 жыл бұрын
@@Rooster_Radio Yea I just discovered the 3 ft jumpers don't do so well. I've been given a 1 pill 60 watt Mini-Ball amp which is my 1st amp. I have 1.2 SWR's on my base setup until throwing a 1 pill amp in the mix. Inline I have the CB, Amp, SWR meter and antenna. Which is a trucker 2000 that I have working like a dipole. SWRs after the Astatic PDC1 SWR/Meter100Watt are 2.1 on ch1 and 3.1 on ch20 and 40. My Stryker 955 SWR meter shows its normal low SWR with the amp on with a 12 foot jumper to the amp but with a 3 ft jumper it see's SWR's of almost 3 across the channels. I have an older 955 that does a little over 1/2 watt dead key on low. On hi it does 3.8 watts and peaks at 40 watts. That's testing on AM with my limited equipment.
