I've been searching for a great way to explain how to write a central idea for informative writing and this video is it. I know it is focused on a topic sentence, but in 3rd grade, writing the central idea sentence follows these steps exactly. What an amazing teacher you are! Thank you!

Hello alot of people say the first sentence is the topic sentence but inside a introduction paragraph not it's not we have to remember that the Hook is the first sentence in the introduction because it grabs the readers attention to keep reading then u have your topic sentence

You are correct that in an introduction paragraph - the first sentence is typically the "hook". And for that matter, the conclusion paragraph typically begins with a re-stated thesis. The topic sentence - as I taught it here - is for a simple paragraph. We use the topic sentence for our body paragraphs when we write essays. It keep our paragraphs focus and easy to read. Moreover, I need an academic writing book which should touch upon the essay writing, types of essays, sentence, sentence improvement, paragraph writing, types of paragraphs and likewise aspects. I have done masters in English literature and linguistics and I feel it absolutely privileged to mention that I have been hugely inspired by your teaching.

Thank you for your kind words! As for the topic sentence, remember if your topic is too general (ex Travel), it will have NO controlling idea. The controlling idea is what narrows your focus. For example, if you write something like this: Traveling is wonderful - that is too general. You can narrow the focus by writing this: Traveling on a budget is quite simple.That topic sentence tells the reader you will talk about traveling and focus on doing it inexpensively. From there you can give a few examples of how to do this. Hopefully, this helps😃.
