Framers really love a rear handle circular saw. This RIDGID R8658 18V Brushless Rear Handle 7-1/4" Circular Saw delivers the power equal to a 15A corded saw. This rear handle looks like the old worm drive framing saws, but it's really a direct drive saw straight off the axis of a huge brushless motor. You get 5,800 RPM and an electronic brake.

You learn something new everyday I lost the Allen key on my circular saw it is indeed a hex head I would have never thought to use a socket on it.

Flex rear handle is still my top choice for circular saw and its not just for the power, its for all the other feautures and I don't get showered in dust!

It’s after 1pm… I just woke up and seen your comment 😂. The Flex is the one to beat for sure. I tell you though if you get the chance to pick up the metabo hpt, it’s going to cut a lot slower but man that thing is so light you wouldn’t believe it. It’s a great saw as well

Yeah we use the MHPT 36V rear handle in applications we used to grab the lighter sidewinders but it's a saw for so many more uses than the heavy Flex and Dealts We use those for the prazi beam cutter chainsaw attachment

I have watched the video now I have the latest version that they need of the 15 amp Worm Drive Ridgid with the through cool technology it would be interesting to get that kids and actually experience it for myself from the video it looks like a solid machine but what will it do with wet Lumber or harder to cut Lumber which is what the Worm Drive was designed for I still prefer a generator and 100 ft cord

Great review, Tim! I wonder how much better this saw will be perform when paired with a Max Output 12.0 ah EXP battery. Would be interesting to see future videos after that battery is finally released. 👍

Appreciate the hard work. All the questions I had about use and set-up were answered. Any advice about storage. Should the battery be removed when not being used or just always left in the saw? Once again, thank you!

Thanks for the thanks, that's why we do this. It really doesn't matter whether you store the battery on the saw, or not. It shouldn't drain the battery while at rest. Thanks for watching.

One of the reasons framers like worm drive saws is the torque .. when your notching rafters etc ..the weight comes in handy if you tilt the board and cut downhill ..

This saw isn't a wormdrive. It's just rear handled sidewinder. same as the Milwaukee and Makita. They aren't wormdrive either

After that beveled cut in the two-by material, when it cut out, it looked like the battery showed only one bar remaining. Seems like the saw has plenty of power, it’s your battery that’s running out… Also, who leaves the original ridgid blade on there? Get rid of that thing.

Thats a great saw with an awful stock blade. I killed the stock blade in 10 minutes, and was way too happy to throw on a replacement. Made a world of difference afterwards

only worm drive rear handles track straight because of gyroscopic forces. You need to push down on a sidewinder to get it to teach straight. Push this saw through a stack of plywood from behind and you won't follow a straight line It is not about power or torque

On the second time around watching it again I need to point out that the corded Worm Drive has no exhaust board it dumps behind the blade and most guys that run rear handle saws don't hold it with both hands they just push it with the back handle and anyways only has two handles because of OSHA safety switch because of OSHA the corded one doesn't have that safety switch way I like it must engage Brain before pulling trigger I'm not saying anyone wouldn't do that first right but they sure do seem to be making power tools dummy proof for the most part it's still in my opinion common-sense should accompany the operator to the point of use

If we wanted another heavy framing saw we can use our Dewalt flexvolt or Skilsaw-if u want a If u want left handle framer that u can use all over the job site u get the Metabo HPT which has good power features and is significantly light for your above the shoulder, ladder and other work where being lighter makes things better

The new brushless line is WAAY better than the octane line. Lmfao every octane tool fell short of its rated specs. Every new counterpart in the new brushless like surpasses the octane significantly.

@@boosted2.4_sky TTI leased the ridged name. That's why some ridged is red while others are orange. Most of the tools used to be AEG out of Austria. Some of the latest tools are a mix of upgraded ryobi or some weird downgraded Milwaukee. It seems TTI doesn't really know what to do with ridged
@engineer_alv

@@boosted2.4_sky yeah that's really bad and it doesn't need to be that way. There have been a few cases where the licensed company doesn't get 2nd rate treatment from the manufacturer. Case in point KOBALT which is produced by Chervon but owned by Lowe's. Their XTR products and newest brushless 24V products don't look nor perform like 2nd rate FLEX tools.

BUYERS BEWARE. The owner's manual on page 13 lists the only two accessories for the R8658 circular saw as the Edge Guide #690119004 and the Edge Guide Knob #511129001. After contacting Ridgid to find out where to purchase these not included accessories (because the five rip guides from my other Skilsaws don't fit and are not compatible) I was referred to contacting Gardener who handles the parts sales for Ridgid, where I was informed that neither part number is available any longer as they are listed as obsolete as of October 2016 and there is no cross referenced replacement part. What, a brand new Ridgid tool platform with necessary parts accessories that are obsolete from the get-go? How could this ever happen since this saw was first introduced in October 2022, but still no accessories available seven months after being released? Personally, I won't own any circular saw that doesn't have a functional rip guide, as to me, it is completely useless without one. I can buy a machine screw and spring at ACE Hardwate, but a rip guide in a necessity. If any one out there in KZfaqLand owns this expensive new Ridgid saw and has a rip guide or knows of a rip guide that they didn't have to machine to fit, please let me know. Otherwise, this lifetime service agreement (LSA) turd is going back for a refund!

A lot of tool companies are strangely weird about bringing all the accessories to the US. It really doesn't make any sense. Some parts of the world will get things like rip guides with the saw, but they pay a lot more for the tool. RIDGID is known as AEG in the rest of the world, you might have better luck finding the European part number and getting the part from eBay.

The Rip guide that came with my RIDGID worm gear frame saw like 10 years ago also fits my new 6 1/2” RIDGID left side subcompact 18 volt saw. So I’d expect it would work on this saw as well. Hope that helps. Don’t have a part # though.
