@@LiebJohnson I have the same controller (gathering dust), and it floored me they use it instead of motorized faders! My Yamaha DM2000 would be a great example of using the old (console preamps) with the new (control surfacing and Symphony I/O), so videos like this are reminders to keep the older gear for repurposing!

Anything is possible if you don’t limit God. And this set up is actually VERY obtainable for many established churches if you change a few things. I was able to create a simplified version of it at the age of 19. Bethel is one of the most “cost effective” churches of their size they utilize BlackMagic gear for all their in-house video needs and wired audio equipment where they can beg cause it sounds good and is cheaper. Judge a tree by its fruit so far that fruit is looking good!

Having an Amek (or any analog console) makes sense because of reliability from week to week, Symphony I/O is killer/reliable/modular, NS10m’s are great, and Pro Tools HD makes sense for the same reasons....Korg controller (tongue-in-cheek)? No problems there, and makes sense! This gives me assurance to keep my Yamaha DM2000 and Symphony I/O (for my studio) whenever installing a broadcast booth becomes an option at the church.

Those Apogee interfaces and those Barefoot monitors aren’t exactly “cheap,” either, LOL... I’d honestly like to know why they’re not using a direct connection from a board into a computer (bypassing the need for the Apogee interfaces)... maybe plugins is the answer... but still, there are definitely hidden costs in this setup.

Any church can do this. You don't have to have that specific analog desk or desk at all. Use your mac or "windows" machine to mix in the box. Start with the stock plugins and work your way up. USB output digital console to computer or Audio interfaces into your computer with an analog setup (direct outs). Look for a college student willing to share their academic email so you can buy a ProTools perpetual license for half the cost or use a free one like Reaper (SpectreSoundStudios is your friend). Stop lamenting get to work!

I partially agree, but attaining student discount under false pretences probably isn't a good look for most churches. Also Reaper isn't free. There's a home version and a commercial version. They just have an unlimited trial. It's still great value and superior to the archaic protools at this point imo and I'd echo the windows/mac thing - it really doesn't matter as long as the computer is reliable.

@churchfront I where deeply wondering over a while how Bethel can handle a full scale service with just an unmotorised 8ch faderboard and a mouse. In an interview from about 2 years ago Luke mentioned that only the music mix is done in the studio and the rest is handled by another console so the band and the mixing engineer could have a pretty tight feedback loop between the worship sets. Makes absolutely sense if possible and nothing wrong with it! But when its still the same, this would be a huuge missing point in the whole story. I can imagine that this could lead into some frustrations of churches who are buying a DAW rig with only the nano control and struggling to handle multiple speakers, transitions and additional stuff and that they're wondering why this don't works. (When they changed it to everything is done there, my biggest respect an honour! I can't even think about not having my 16 motorfaders :D )

@JorgeSilvestrini
@JorgeSilvestrini 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Benjamin - so the Amek is connected to the Symphony by use of each channel's dedicated output. The Symphony has DB25 connectors and you'd use a DB25 cable to TRS. Plugin the TRS to the dedicated direct channel output from the AMEK. Each Symphony can handle 32 channels. That's why he has 2 Symphony interfaces. Then, they go from the Symphony to the AVID Thunderbolt I/O. It takes the digilink outputs from the Symphony and from that AVID box you plug it into your computer. Now you are 100% inside of the box with all the channels coming in.

what is the point of using a console, just for preamps paying for that entire set of channel strips, only to use the preamps an octo pre is like $400 and dante or an audio ip would be much more practical than a 3 way analog snake too
@dustinthiessen
@dustinthiessen 4 жыл бұрын
copper splits are still super valuable. each console has it's own preamp control, you can have a combination of consoles that you might prefer for each given job, without having to make sure they all talk the same language, copper is rock solid, and easily field serviceable, also was probably there from the days of analogue consoles.
@brandonroebuck504
@brandonroebuck504 4 жыл бұрын
Sawhorse Records an octopre preamp in price vs performance is not large enough to make a difference for the intended use It’s gonna get streamed so the audio is all getting compressed at the tail Even at 4K, there’s no need for an entire console, only to send it right back out after gain staging Hell they could’ve just got some good a/d that had preamps in it already Or go digital altogether
@brandonroebuck504
@brandonroebuck504 4 жыл бұрын
Dustin Thiessen if it what they already had, yeah that makes sense, but to say analog snakes are better than digital is a matter of opinion at most Running a digital snake system is more practical and cost effective for future proofing, and provides a lot more flexibility with signal flow Not to mention you don’t have to worry about physical degradation of signal over long runs of cable and or replace large amounts of cable as it wears and gets damaged The whole setup here just feels wasteful and overkill for simply sending channels to pro tools for a rough mix down

Didn’t Jesus tear down extravagant temples full of religious leaders because it wasn’t his will? All this money should be spent protecting and serving the underserved. If there’s even one person that goes hungry in your town you guys should be ashamed. These productions serve no one but the people in the room.
