First, thanks for the video Jake. You helped me a lot with thinking through some stuff for our live stream that we can implement. Especially for our audio. I’m still dialing everything in - we don’t mix in a daw - but I will say this past week I feel like I was able to get our mix to a good starting point. I meant not be able to answer the other questions you asked in the video but I think that having a LUFS meter on the master bus will really help with the metering for y’all. We’re probably gonna use the same thing this week too. I think the “standard” for loudness is ~23dB LUFS or so.

I've been running the 2me production studio 4k on a streamdeck xl for over a year now. It works well. Allows me to customize all my buttons and automate the whole broadcast. Just got my last two pieces of hardware (wing and novastar) networked in to control from the same panel.

WLM Plus Loudness Meter A great loudness metering plugin that also has a built in limiter. You want to be hitting between 18 and 15 LUFS during worship and between 20 and 18 for any talking head moments.

This video is very informative, I enjoyed watching it. At my church, in our booth we have a Behringer X32 that we use for our sound, then our sound from the X32 goes to our video switcher which is the Roland V60HD, and we have two PTZ Optics cameras that go into that, we also have a computer that we have PowerPoints that go along with Sunday services. The computer is also connected to our Roland video switcher. We also have a Matrox Monarch encoder which streams to Facebook.

Definitely go decimator design for the HDMISDI multiview run the HD-LX is great. The failure rate compared to other brands is so much better. Either that or we really like using NDI for that stuff so you can pull up a multiview anywhere. Loudness is tough, a LUFS meter as some others have mentioned is great, in conjunction with a reference track that you can solo without interrupting the stream audio is a big win. That way you can monitor like you mentioned, bass balance or any overall tone compared to a well mixed track, it could be smashing your limiter without you knowing. Our ears adjust pretty quickly to what we are listening to so having the reference there is game changing. Blessing mate, appreciate the humility being open to others ideas and working together as God's global church. There is great power in that

@Jake have you considered automating stream start and stop from companion ? Since version 2.2 you can use the "triggers" option to do that kind of things. For exemple one trigger could be schedule to run every Sunday at 9:45 am : Set ATEM program to input 8; start stream. Would save you the monthly Boxcast fee.

I'm the "one-armed wallpaper hanger" guy. But we have dante, so I get all the PT channels from dante. Mix 'em in Ableton, send a stereo pair via dante to the Yamaha TF-5. Then a stereo aux pair goes into Datavideo switcher. Given the newness of our volunteers, I have a pretty hefty compressor on the TF5 stereo aux output. I also have a separate iMac monitoring the youtube channel, so I get a 15sec delayed video/audio feed, that's the final check for possible distortion. I try to monitor the PT during their rehearsal at the TF5 and/or switcher headphones for quality. Primitive, eh?

For monitoring the stream audio I think it is helpful to listen at the absolute last place in the signal flow you can to know what is really being sent to the encoder. I use the headphone out of the ATEM Television Studio HD because it is the last step before the encoder and it works great for this, is simple and is the best way to catch is something is wrong further up the signal flow. As an extra benefit of this approach we are using a separate Aux mix from our Allen & Heath SQ for the stream and we don't need to constantly switch settings on the mixer between house and stream headphone mixes (we simply switch headphones).

Ditto. Our Atem Mini Extreme has a headphone output port and because the Atem is outputting the live stream then it is the final mixed audio. A cheap headphone amp allows us to send to more than one headphone; one of which is a bluetooth transmitter that sends the audio to noise-cancelling headphones. Gives a pretty good audio considering it's in the auditorium.

For audio routing, how far is the room into video booth? Analog XLR can run for 200ft. For longer run maybe you want to try Audio over Cat5e/6 Extender (active), there's a lot of options (including HDMI extender). Sure, you can't integrate this like some protocol, but it will be on the cheap side. For the metering I suggest running pink noise through your rig to check any gain/atten your rig does to your audio chain. To meter the output, I usually download the YT videos and drag the audio into Youlean Loudness Meter. Don't forget to check how much YT normalize your audio (right-click > stats for nerds > Volume/Normalized). For enough loudness (streaming purposes) I personally aim for -14 LUFS Integrated/Short Term, and Loudness Range (LRA) of 3-6 LU.

If not for the fact that you are committed to Apple, you could send an audio NDI stream from the DAW. Just last Sunday, I sent the output on the Listen Bus in Studio One via NDI, because I was using a laptop to record the channels coming out of the x32 and I wanted to be able to hear what I was getting in the our livestream room.

A few suggestions... Why doesn't someone just fix the switcher audio ports? If it is just broken ports, find an electrician in the congregation and see if they can take care of it. If there is not that option, soldering a couple ports is easy, as long a you are patient. I would change your approach to white balancing. While setting a default is good, always be mindful of shifting ambient color temps and re-white balance when necessary, not just before the production begins. This is especially beneficial when you are doing a tight shot and light bounce and tight crop is changing the visible ambient color temp. While it is an extra step, good training will mean that it looks even tighter during the live video mix. Secondly, don't worry about the empty counter space, until everything else is dialed in. Until it is dialed in, you won't know if you need that extra workspace for any production needs. Space planning is definitely beneficial, but not before assessing needs and production solutions. I have been on the fence since the new BMD Studio cameras came out. So much to like, but then crazy curveballs like micro 4/3 lenses. And, the lack of picking a consistent transport medium. One day, it is SDI, another is HDMI, then now 10GB. And, each time they change, they switch up the transport, meaning a whole new setup of adapters to consider. I just wish Grant would pick one standard and stick with it. How are you finding the cameras in a real production environment?

We use a MOTU M2 to monitor & adjust our live stream audio levels. The meters are much more detailed than many other interfaces. Our setup is very basic, using it to capture audio into a PC for OBS. But it could be used in other scenarios too.

For Logic delay, I set the template tempo to 69 which is never perfect for any song but is workable in all songs. Delays all follow project tempo. Sometimes I’ll set it to the tempo of one of the songs in the list that I intend to clip out as a standalone song video.

2:21 are those Apple power bricks on the power strip? I imagine they may have just been spares from other devices, but if by chance they were bought specifically as extra usb bricks, I'd recommend looking into the Anker lineup of bricks, they have a wide variety of bricks with different power deliveries just like Apple, but they're also using the latest technology, allowing them to be extremely compact for their power delivery, and there is lots of other options such as multiple ports on a single brick

As far as monitoring goes, I’d monitor off of the program output feed on the production studio 4k that you’re going to put in place. Don’t put anything between the console outputs and the program inputs on the production studio, use the output on the production studio so you can hear exactly what is being sent to your live stream. For example, what if you have a video signal accidentally have its audio source turned on, but you’re monitoring before it even gets to the video switcher, so you wouldn’t be able to hear that.

Hey Jake have you thought about using an BMD Audio to SDI (audio injector) to replace the need to use the ATEM mini? Mix video and audio "post" the TV Studio with a simple converter box.(I guess using the mini allows you to get the stream into a computer...) UPDT, possibles solutions: -Yes, good solution to upgrade to a larger rack mount switcher. -Ya using the Flow mixer in broadcast to send 2 xlr's to the new Prod Studio 4k, good idea. -Use the XLR outputs (1MEPassthrough, with the 2ME it adds the Monitor Outs) on the back of new Prod Studio 4K to route to FOH as well as to a small personal headphone amp setup for the Switch-Op. -Any reason you wouldn't move the ATEM setup and Op into the room with the Logic Op? I know you said soon you'd like to get a dedicated room from a potential Kid's move, might be a bad idea to speed up the process by trying it out in current Logic room. -We meter using the ATEM Multiview meter, and make reference what that reading needs to be, based on what we want the end result to be online. We need to get better as well. Eventually, we'll integrate some outboard audio gear to limit and compress. -Could you just use a Korg Nano style midi solution to tap? Route the interface TAP button from Logic as an external trigger?

@Jake to control your tap in your Logic template couldn't you just use midi out on your playback rig to slave Logic's tempo to your click/tracks? I haven't tried this, just thinking out loud?

Jake - for audio mix, do you think it was your ear "taste" versus the prior audio mix team member(s) that made the difference or did you follow a specific plan? Definitely more low-end energy, detail and loudness-emphasis on the after. Do they have a proper equipment setup for stream mixing or are they using headphones in the back-room? I do hear a little-much kick-batter when I listen to after (6/12), but otherwise, it's very good. 6/19 mix also smoother and less kick and feels like you pulled down overall level a few. For me, I have to do virtual sound-check before Sunday practice using Thursday practice recording to setup what I hope is a good mix and then mix FoH without an A-2 (all on single X32 with buses and matrix - comes out ok) Would love to have the tech to add Waves or a DAW but not enough budget or volunteers who would be willing to use it well. I think we also have audio/video compression issues in our configuration of Wirecast. I did notice your speaking mics (pastor, announcements) is also mixed lower and could use a few dB boost which is always a challenge to equalize well. Now that the band is louder and fuller, getting the pastor sounding good and full is worth trying to enhance in Logic. Your limiter bit at the end of the video - yeah, you could drop your overall level 2 dB or so and not hit the limiter as hard - people can turn up the volume if they want more.

Surprised you are trusting a headphone out on your MBP! But you don't need a Flow8 (no mixing!), just a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 to get out of that jam. Actually, I'd think you'd want to keep the signal digital, if possible. If you had a Livestream Studio subscription, for instance, you could avoid all A/D conversion.

Thanks! Question. Why do you need to return your broadcast mix back to the M32? Is there a reason to do that before going into your broadcast mix? I am about to get this type of thing setup for the new church I am currently at. I have thought about putting a Presonus Audiobox as the output for my DAW. I can then split the feed to go to studio monitors in my video suite as well as send them direct into the switcher inputs for the feed. Within the switcher audio control, if I need to make some ending tweaks I could. So I am curious why not bypass the board on the output? What am I not thinking through? Thanks!

i'm sorry but this video was not very user friendly. You started off by suggesting that your information would apply without very much equipment purchasing, then proceed to explain how you and your church uses about $50,000 worth of equipment. This is great for big minisstries with big budgets and big staffs, but not very practical for mid-sized or small churches. Be that as it may, it is clear you know your stuff, but you explained it at a level that someone would need a lot of experience to follow it.

The Gospel: Plain and Simple “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” - 2 Corithians 11:3 Ask someone today if they are saved and you will most likely hear responses like these: “I have accepted Jesus into my heart.” Or “I have made him Lord of my life.” “I’ve been baptized.” “I said a prayer.” Sounds all good and churchy don’t it; but it is difficult to de-termine whether or not a person actually knows the gospel that saves them. These use￾less phrases don’t describe a thing about what the gospel is and has left a devastating effect of people not knowing what it is that they are saved from nor how they are saved; which leaves a more serious effect of people ques￾tioning their salvation. Let’s not muddy the simplicity of salva￾tion that is in Christ with vague church sounding phrases that do not communicate anything. But rather present God’s word with clarity and assuredness. So here is the gospel: plain and simple. Sin was passed upon all men by one man Adam, and death is a consequence of this sin (Rom 5:12). Mankind has an eternal destiny of condemnation and wrath - Hell - because of this sin (Rom 6:23). No matter what good works one might do we are still found sinners in the sight of our Creator God. And all un￾righteousness and those who follow get in￾dignation and wrath. We cannot be found righteous for by God’s law we are found sin￾ners (Rom 3:19-20). If we have broken even one law we are found guilty. It is for this reason of not being able to create our own righteousness and being born in a sinful flesh that we need a savior (Titus 3:5). Christ is that Savior, God manifested in the flesh, sinless, died in our place on a cross 2000 years ago. Taking upon him the wrath and judgement that was intended for us sin￾ners. And it is through his bloodshed, burial, and resurrection on our behalf that we are able to have peace with God and forgiveness of our sins (1 Cor 15:1-4, Col 3:14). This good news is unto all but only those that believe in it are made righteous in Christ (Romans 3:22). It is then after we have heard this good news of Christ’s righteousness available to us freely, that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit and we are now part of Christ’s body the church (Eph 1:13) There is nothing that we need to do, no good works that are required, and no bad works that can separate us from our new po￾sition in Christ (Romans 8:35-39). Faith and belief in this information from God’s word is the gospel. The gospel is not accepting Jesus into your heart. The gospel is not making him lord of your life, it is not saying a prayer and it is not being baptized with water. So next time someone asks you if you are saved. Give them the clear assured answer “Yes And let me tell you why Find more free resources at: www.graceambassadors.com
