I bought mine about a year and a half ago and I would buy it again today. I waited for so long because I had an HD500X that had just as much staying power as any. The decision point was when Line6 started reducing HD series support for the Helix. So I would say that is my jumping off point, when Line6 stops supporting the Helix, then I’ll start worrying.

Had the Helix LT for at least seven years I think. For me, it does the job, flexible, easy to use, small footprint while also having a built in expression pedal. I mainly use it for guitar, but also use it with my synths, electric violin and bass. So flexible and sounds great.

totally agree. The Helix was so well thought out in the form factor...way ahead of it's time and the combo of that great layout with the ever improving firmware and actual SOUNDS, in my opinion, makes it the best out there. A touch screen would be nice, but other than that, Helix is the chef's kiss

It's one of those bits of kit that will always sound great you could play it in 50 years and it'll still stack up because our ears don't change and it's already spot on so there isn't really much more a multi effects can give quality wise. Newer systems will just add weird and wonderful effects but the overall quality won't really move on much

I love the Helix floor for a solo musician. With the ability to have a microphone for vocals and a separate line for the guitar.....it is incredibly versatile. I really wish they would add an acoustic amp model and the biggest wish would be some vocal effects like what TC Helicon does where the harmonizer will autodetect your guitar key and adjust the harmonizer to that. Be great to have a double vocal effect as well. I absolutely love my Helix and with them constantly updating the Helix, these are possibilities I suppose....far fetched, but still possibilities. :)

First, just want to say thank you for your videos. You guys are a blessing to many! Do you guys have a video that explains options for running your helix into the church PA? I’m currently using an amp but about to pull the trigger on the helix to run stereo or possibly even wet dry wet. I’ve been saving for a while and just want to understand options so I can talk to our sound people. How do you guys run it when you play live? Do you need 2 or 3 channels in the PA if you eliminate the amp entirely? What are some options (ranked on difficulty to dial in) so the wet signal isn’t over powering?

Helix wishlist: -native Dante support (or a card option) that supports LCR wet/dry out -more DSP -more snapshots per preset -variable rate tremolo (like that one pedal Brad has) -better signal-chain visuals, especially for amps and cabs -photos of the amps being played -fixing that knob to the right of the screen with push to select -WT amp captures included out the box

IMHO the selling point of the helix was the functionality; yes it has great amp and effects modeling, but I think the fact that it can integrate similarly to how a G System could is what sold me on it. Even without amp modeling, and maybe even drives, the fact is that you can still loop other effects in and control them with both preset and individual functions, and along with having it do things like switch amp channels, still makes it’s really competitive IMHO.

Ever since y’all’s interview with them, I have really messed around with using their own amp models in front of the tone matched/XR IRs and let me tell you, they sound fantastic. I remember from watching videos from Sean Haley - when the HD500x was out they were already working on Helix. In was in development for 5 years. So you can bet when they released Helix - they almost immediately started working on their strategic vision for what's next. They've been doing that now for 10 years. What's different than the old platforms is they have now build an entire ecosystem around Helix - so changing that means changing everything. That's probably why it's been this long. Whatever they do changes not just this Helix but everything based around it. Line 6 has always led the pack - whatever they do will be cool beyond all imaginable. If nothing else it will inspire changes to everything else.

Helix still sounds so good, that even if there was a "Helix 2", it wouldn't make your Helix 1 sound worse? If they keep updating Helix, what's wrong with it? It's DSP, it's programmed modelling, it doesn't become obsolete. The only thing that could happen is eventually models take up so much DSP that the user is limited in choice. This only limits you, doesn't make it sound bad.

People seem to love it for effects, complex routing, and a great editor. For these things, the Helix is still a good choice, unless space is an issue. What might make a great combo is the Helix or even the LT with a Kemper Player or Tonex in an audio loop. That saves DSP to where you might opt to use the Helix with the spillover between presets, as DSP wouldn't be needed for amps and cabs.

It seems like a few influencer channels have had recent similar discussions with Line 6 people. I wonder if this indicates that our current hardware will be getting still more significant software overhauls in the nearish future. That would be kind of mind blowing imo. Like if we got fusion feature and maybe some more modulation possibilities in our HX stomps, my mind would be blown at how much I've gotten out of the initial investment in this hardware. I mean, I already feel that way and I honestly was thinking it's probably time for a v2 iteration of this hardware. I've owned all of the big names in modelling (except cortex) at this point and the helix is the most immediately good sounding imo.

people have been saying for years now "What if I buy it, and then they release the new Helix?" The reality is, even if that does happen, then you'll still have an awesome sounding, reliable piece of gear that you can use for years to come. Heck, I just picked up a PODGO last week (isn't here yet though b/c they are backordered) b/c it was on sale, and I just couldn't pass it up.

The couldn't get over the learning curve woth the Helix, so I sold it for the Fender TMP, much easier learning curve for a newb in the guitar world... That being said, Helix is still an awesome sounding unit. I don't understand why people hate on one unit to another, all of them have strengths and weaknesses. The fact that we have so many different types of modelers should be an indication that there's the right flavor for everyone. If the Helix is the one for you, right on brother! But if someone else likes the headrush, keeper, TMP better, don't put them down man, we're all here to enjoy music in a while we like to share it and play. All these units are great. No hate to any of them!!!

HELIX is nice! Guitar processors can make a big difference in sound depending on the CAB IR you use. actually there are many IR products on the market, but I think DYNAX IR has the best sound. As stated in their product description, DYNAX IR is really fast. When using IRs, the pick attack is sometimes delayed, and it is difficult to add picking nuances, but their IR prevents all of that. It's revolutionary!

Here's the thing, amp modeling (and IR tech) is amazing. I got sold on the HXFX. But, thanks in no small part to you here @worshiptutorials, I also got sold on the DSM & Humboldt Simplifier DLX (first) and then the MKII (which is what I wound up keeping). I've found that I prefer the analog modeling. We'll see. I'm still working on a couple rigs. I came from the Fractal Audio world (also amazing). I decided to finally give the FX8 a shot. It covers a ton of ground, but not quite what they achieved with their newer software releases (speaking in terms of effects). I'd love an updated version of that, but I doubt it will ever happen, let alone be price compatible with the FM9, let alone the FM3. Is there still room for development? Sure. Obviously. That's why many people still prefer tube amps and individual pedals. Both sides of things are great.

The Helix platform has had a core architecture and modeling update in 2023, it’s not just the new amp models.

I think it’s time for a successor but there def needs to be Helix support for 5 years due to a number of units out there. I feel they need to focus on a smaller footprint with lots of power ala Stomp XL format but more engine power to last another 10 years.

Here's a free one for Line 6 (and maybe someone has done this with some goofy hardware stuck to the guitar but still)... guitar modeling. Sort of like the capture process for an amp, have some sort of calibration process where a unit captures the sound of the guitar, and then does the math on the signal to process it into sounding like some other guitar. Let me get some strat neck pickup sounds, then hit a preset and I'm a hollowbody bridge filtertron.

I've been toying with buying a Helix but for less than half the price, I have 2 used HD500Xs. I keep one at church and one at home to upgrade/add patches then I switch them out as needed. But those scribble strips would be handy...

From what I’m seeing from the gear community, specifically touring musicians, helix has become the great at home unit but kempers and now the quad cortex are the better touring option just for the DSP alone. I’m a bedroom player and honestly the helix is perfect for my current situation, but if I were to ever tour I’d want a quad cortex on pedal board with an expression pedal.

The Helix is, without doubt, the most feature filled guitar product that I've even owned. It's a design masterclass at doing something that will last this length of time. I've never got on with the amp models as I find them a bit lifeless compared to Fractal and Kemper, but I always choose the Helix for (exactly as you say) usability. But the latest update from Line6 really made the amps sound better. As of now, I've not used the Fractal for quite some time, I've used the Kemper Stage quite a bit for simplicity but the restrictions drive me nuts, but now I'm using the Helix alot more with external amp channel switching and external drive pedals and it's own effects (if somebody could make the synths better I'd thank you for it!). It's just one cracking piece of kit that's survived much beer spiilage from the punters.

The IR development coming out for the Helix is insane. I joined Helix clan in spring of 2023 and have been in love since- creating my own versatile presets and purchasing others. The IRs you can purchase push the sonic limits of the Helix and truly give you tones that 99% of people could not differentiate from the “real rig”.. e.g. a gentleman named Jon Kaneshiro on this platform just put out a “where the light is” helix preset with IRs a month ago and it sounds , to the common ear, exactly like a John Mayer 50,000$+ set up. The Helix has allowed low to middle class guitar players sound like high end high income players and it’s truly an equalizer for us non studio, non professional musicians that’s want those tones so desperately and can’t afford them. Thank you to you guys too for your amazing tones. I always love whipping out the Hillsong patch every now and then when I need the sanctuary to sound like an aquarium !

I think people forget that its not just the tones that people look at. I bought the HX Stomp XL because it is the perfect form factor for me. Not too big and has the right amount of editable footswitches. It is the perfect price. I personally do not believe the newer modellers bring anything new that is an absolute must have and a reason to move on from Helix.

I'm a long-time user of the Helix Floor and HX Stomp XL. I'll buy the next version of the Helix Floor when it comes out. Line 6 has to keep the next version within the Helix universe. There are too many customers with years of time invested in the presets. They need to add DSP and fix the preset leveling problem. Needs to have some built in system to balance volume across presets. Also its hard to understand whey they have so many terrible stock presets when there are so many good customized ones on the market.

It is a good unit and still relevant. But it is also showing its age a bit in the areas of DSP and form factor and lack of capture tech. I would love a stomp or xl unit with double the DSP. I also think they need to get into the capture game.
