That's the dumbest and most ignorant comment in these mentions. If you actually believe that, then that explains a lot. Before the tech everyone had to be able to play an instrument. Even the most average session musician was far more technically accompished than the biggest star of the last 10 years. Popular music is now mostly about the optics and the musicianship takes a back seat.

I guess some of these album covers look awful, but if an album is called "A Little Crippled Girl's Prayer", what do you EXPECT the cover to look like?
@lindaeasley43365 жыл бұрын
They didn't have to have a picture of the girl on the cover . Maybe a pair of hands together in prayer . That's the main mistake with these album covers . The artists think an album cover must be a god awful picture of themselves. Many of the great album covers in history featured incredible artwork. The titles are cringeworthy, too

In the early 70's I had the album The Frivolous 5 . The old ladies were an instrumental group playing songs by Al Hirt and Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass . Here in Corpus Christi , Tx. the Naval Base has it's celebration every year by hosting Air Shows . At that festival one of the local radio stations was giving away free albums from its mobile unit . They were transmitting from the Naval Base & that was the album they gave to me . I listened to it a couple of times & I don't know what happened to that album . I wasn't into that type of music and what's strange , was that the radio station didn't play that type of music. This was back in 1971 mostly my grandparents were the ones listening to that album . I guess that's one reason the radio station got rid of that album .

Blame the artists? Blame the designer of the album cover? The art director? The producer? The record company? In the case of RCA and Epic -- those were major labels and the artwork had to be approved by several people. Dolly Parton? Ed Ames? Jay Ferguson? Conway Twitty? The Bee Gees? What were they thinking? Or maybe...just like Van Morrison's LP "Blowin' Your Mind," (not in this video) -- he admitted in an interview he hated that cover because he wasn't involved with the design. How about The Beatles butcher block cover. Bad taste? Damn right. This goes beyond not having a budget. There's no taste, no creativity, no plan. Some people shouldn't be on the cover at all. There is so much you can do in a 12 x 12 format but they obviously have no sense of design, no sensible photography or fonts. Even copy placement is bad. The printer should've refused to go to press with these. The artwork is what sometimes sells the LP if buyers are not familiar with the artist.
