As an owner of a hobby farm with only 3 horses, most people don’t realize the expense of horse ownership. Fortunately my wife and I had incomes to support and maintain our small herd. Square bale hay here in Connecticut is $8-10 a bale. We need 400 bales every season. Every 6-8 weeks the farrier comes to trim, reuse the shoes or replace $250.00. The grain, fresh water and treats add up every month. We just put up a new barn 10 years ago. So you see it’s a costly hobby to get into and maintain. Not to mention vet bills twice a year. ($75.00) just to visit your barn before any treatment. You can’t cheap out on your horses. They deserve all the care you can give. I just subscribed. Thanks for the quality and informative videos. @@kmaezz I once rescued a 25 year old pony that was skin and bones. She was at a riding stable and she was kept in with at least 20 other horses in the "cheap" pasture which was mostly dust. She had to fight for her food and didn't win very often because she had bite wounds all over. I had gone with my friend who was looking at some of the riding horses for sale. The manager asked if we would be interested in a "Free Pony". I immediately went home and got my truck and trailer. First thing in the morning I called a vet. She had super bad teeth, a severe case of sand colic with horrible diarrhea. Teeth floated, treated the colic (she pooped nothing but sand for 2 days) special diet of alfalfa pellets and dressed her wounds. She made a full recovery and lived another year, happy and healthy.
