as a biomedical and chemistry scientist... for 7 years, looking into cosmetology, I can honestly tell you ANYTHING is toxic in high volumes... eating to much tuna can make your liver fail? to much water will kill you... all these chemicals your going crazy over are totally fine and don't harm you.. I even went into researching what you were trying to point out, but I found no issue in these ingredients. They are present for a reason? We don't just chuck anything in there.. if that was the case and it was genuinely harming people, people wouldn't buy, and it would be clear form the get go that it is toxic. You need to stop using the word toxic, because it just isn't. And its wrong to turn people to obsess of chemicals that allow product to remain stabilised, prevent bacterial growth etc, because if anything that is much more of an issue?

I'm also a chemistry student. I completely agree with you. I'm cool with her talking about cutting things out of her products to an extent... But at some point it's too much. I know from working in product testing labs that fragrance tends to have formaldehyde in it, so that's certainly something one should consider cutting out of their beauty routine. But many of these other ingredients she keeps talking about - and I've read many, MANY labels looking for toxic chemicals known to the states of CA and WA - are not toxic at all. These products include coconut, which she went on about for a few minutes, and has reiterated in multiple other videos. She's gone so far as to categorize a completely safe ingredients as toxic based on her own allergies to them.

@@claire-yn2zi I agree with you about coconut and toxicity. Let's not forget the fact though, that parabens although haven't been proven yet that are related directly to breast cancer, are chemicals used as preservatives, that penetrate easily the skin and have been found in high doses in the breast. So it is another factor to be avoided. Good to know all these but as you said not everthying is toxic. I hope we could have a brand that is all natural and good at the same time, but is rather difficult, or then it might be extremenly expensive, becuase products will just exprire really fast. Hannah people also used to use arsenic and lead on their faces even though they knew it was bad because they wanted to look beautiful so that isn’t really an argument. That being said, its the trend right now and will hopefully die out soon. Its just the way things go, generations go from synthetic to natural and back to synthetic again without knowing why they do what they do.

Just because a product is "unscented" or "fragrance-free", doesn't mean that other ingredients/chemicals haven't been added in order to mask unpleasant/medicinal odors which can be present in the product. So that's something you have to watch for, too.

okay so I am a chemistry major and some of the things tati says uhhhh kinda made me cringe. So throughout the video, she kept talking about how parabens are so bad for you, well guess what? parabens are literally the most researched, and the safest preservatives that human race created. If they are listed at the back of the ingredient list, they probably won't affect your skin/body that much. I would watch out for "natural" and "organic" products where they advertise no preservatives, but for those products? you gotta refrigerate them and make sure they don't go bad like food.

I agree that cancel culture can become too much and people are too quick to “cancel” someone/brand, but Tarte, in my opinion, completely deserved the backlash. It was 2 0 1 8, brands have no excuse for an awful shade range. Of course if a brand is up and coming they might come out with less shades, but a gigantic brand like tarte have NO excuse. They should have already known to create a larger range for darker skin tones. It is a basic thing for a brand to know. So, Tarte, bye sweetie
@siarramae1220
@siarramae1220 5 жыл бұрын
It's just that it feels like an intentional disrespect when brands don't come out with more dark shades when there are brands out there doing it already. Dark people should not be an after thought for foundation or any makeup. If they didn't have an equal amount of dark shades as lighter shades, then they should have held off on the launch until they did.

Some companies can afford to do that, and depending on where they launch, it might not make much sense. One wouldn't expect, for example, a company in Korea to have a shade range suitable for non-Asian skin tones. But I agree that for a company like Tarte, with vast amounts of money and a vast audience spanning the color spectrum, should've had a full shade range. But I prefer not to attribute to malice what I can just as easily attribute to stupidity. People are too self absorbed to be as interested in offending random strangers as many random strangers seem to think.

Are you serious? Please come back with me to my organic chemistry days! That stuff is so hard to understand, you can’t learn it from just clicking about and reading an internet article. 🤦‍♀️ practical examinations are also part of learning drug interactions and compounds - who remembers calculating moles and trying to balance out chemical reactions 🙋🏽‍♀️. That's great, really, it's awesome you've found it works fine for you. But the fact is that the majority of people with acne prone skin will have the same issues with coconut oil that Tati is having because it has a high comedogenic rating, meaning it's more likely to clog your pores and give you acne.

MyLifeInWonderland yeah well I have acne prone skin to. But to write of all oils as a culprit is kind of stupid. Grape seed oil I also great for skin. I use to have awful skin and only thing that helped was natural oils, aloe Vera and witch hazel. Making your own skin care is honestly best way, because then you can tweak things to your needs without breaking bank and loading chemicals onto your skin that gets absorbed. But guess majority perfer to be lazy and waste money :)

I respect your choice to go fragrance free in your beauty routine, and I appreciate you taking the time to research ingredients. It is not okay to continue spending the idea that there are brands that have non-toxic formulas, that implies that every other brand is toxic and that is simply not true. I'm a chemist, and a long time fan of your channel but it pains me to see you talk about this stuff. ALL CHEMICALS are bad for you in some degree or another, I know that because WATER is a chemical, your BODY is built on chemicals. There is also NO REASON that SLS would ever be in any formula other than a cleanser, that is a marketing scheme. You can say it is drying to the hair and skin but it is NOT bad for you. I am very glad that you continue to educate yourself bht spreading this false idea that we all need to go chemical free is not only ludicrous but also completely impossible.

You know i love Tati, i love her content most of the time, she seems like a very nice and really bubbly person. However tarte, and really most makeup brands most of the time make makeup that usually ALWAYS fits her skin tone. I haven’t seen one brand ever miss the mark on medium shades. I don’t think she can speak about canceling a brand because of a shade range whenever she’s never experienced the wide spread disappointment of not being able to try out a new product because a brand didn’t even consider or care about someone like you buying what they sell enough to create your shade. I’m really pale (110 in Fenty foundation) and tarte has never had any foundation or concealer that I’ve been able to use. As a consumer experiencing something like that is way different than watching someone else experience it, which is all that Tati has really done.

I personally just don’t feel like I fit in with Tarte. Looking in their Instagram I don’t see women like me. Their concealer doesn’t even have a good shade for me. Their shadows have so many lighter toned shades that I wouldn’t even be able to use, which sucks. So for those reasons I don’t support them any longer. I love your channel and always have. This is coming from a place of respect and total admiration: please stop with ingredients. I, as well as many others (this became clear after reading through the comments) are NOT here for it. "Clean at Sephora" seems like a backdoor marketing tactic, and even if it isn't, the pricetags on these items do not make them accessable to everyone. Part of the reason I love watching your videos is because you use a variety of products that appeal to all sorts of demographics. Because of this, your reviews are practical to a very large group of people. Please, please - just talk about the makeup. If you choose to use clean products, GREAT. Just refrain from going on about it. I'm hoping you go back to talking more about performance instead of going on about what's in the product.

If you really want to come across as well informed when it comes to ingredients, you need to stop saying the word “toxic”. It’s bs. You should also learn the various marketing angles companies are using to manipulate you, such as listing tons of “toxic” ingredients that are never used in the formulation of that product. Phthalates, for example, have a specific plasticizing function. Think hairspray. Not skin care products. Also all fragrances irritate the skin. Don’t be manipulated by the “all natural” marketing that tells you otherwise. Skin can’t tell the difference between “natural” and lab-created fragrance.
@thegiraffereference
@thegiraffereference 5 жыл бұрын
VS M 🙌🏻 Thank you for mentioning this! If fragrance irritates your skin, it irritates your skin regardless of whether it’s synthetic or natural. I’ve had products fragranced with “all natural” essential oil (like Origins, for example) that are more heavily scented and irritating than many synthetically fragranced products I’ve tried. In general, I stay away from all fragrances, natural or synthetic, because that’s what MY skin needs. I just hate the preachiness of natural v synthetic scent. Fragrance in products is so personal, and not a direct result of some “scary synthetic chemicals.” For example: Rose fragrances, synthetic or natural, always break me out. It’s a very individual thing.

FUN FACT: If a product says "Dermatologists tested" it means just that. That they tested it. It doesn't mean that the test results had any significance for the company to alter formulas and remove problematic ingredients. It also doesn't mean it's hypoallergenic. The purpose is to lead you to wrong conclusions. But, if you truly look at the wording, they aren't claiming anything other but the fact that doctors tested. They tested, alright. But so what? It means nothing to the consumer. The only tag you have to look for that has any actual relevance and actual significance is HYPOALLERGENIC.

Most marketing is like that. You need to really look at what you are being told and what isn't being said. Hypoallergenic, allergy tested, non-irritating, safe for you are all actually baseless terms. The companies dont come out and test eveything you are allergic to so how would the company know that those terms apply to you...they dont but marketing teams know that comsumers dont generally know/think like that. It is the same reason i see boneless skinless chicken breast market as gluten free.... there is no freaking gluten in plain chicken breast! But it says gluten free so people will pay more for it...because people in general dont stop to look up what gluten is and where it comes from (grains) to know it was never there to begin with. They just know because they heard it from somewhere or saw it marked on a food package... gluten is bad. Do the research educate yourself. Sorry that was long had a very long day at work and caffeine still has me wired for sound.

I think she’s in the middle of a process. Yeah, there’s a lot of conflicting stuff, but I think she is in the process of finding what’s good for her, good for health, good for her channel. she's in the middle of a process. If you ever decide to make the movement to "clean" you'll know the feeling. You fall in love with makeup, smelling good, nice voluptuous hair, you trust that something that is approved by the FDA and the general masses wouldn't harm you and then you stumble across something one day that peaks your interest ... you do some research and find that ALL of your favourites have at least 1, if not all "dirty" ingredients. Meaning, potentially cancer causing, or lung irritant or what have you. Once you've researched that to death (which there is no end) now you need to start finding clean alternatives. But you still LOVE the way you look & feel with your "dirty" products... so slow and steady you start the change and try to inform others the best you can... be there done that & you don't know, until you know.

It’s easy to dismiss Tarte’s terrible shade range if you fit one of the shades. You having the platform that you do and choosing to be silent says a lot about the values that you care about and it’s a bit disappointing. I used to wake up and one of the first things I do is watch a Tati video, now I can wait a few days before watching them - if I watch them at all. I appreciate shes learning and doing what’s good for her skin etc but I came here for the makeup!! And it’s just not fun watching the same rant over and over again ☹️ sorry Tati

I 100% agree and i do the same. First wait for some days, then read comments and if its not about ingredients I will watch it. If it is, then I 'll skip it. I have a phd in mol. biology and work as a researcher in drugs and neuroproteins for more than 10 years now, so i think I know which ingredients are good and which aren't. And to be honest if i want more info I will read some publications or consult some good doctors and not someone who is an expert in make -up. I have no idea about make up and I consider Tati an expert. I hope I am not offending anyone; what i mean is that as long as we know our field of study/work then it's safe to talk about the specific subject. Otherwise we jeopardize saying thinks that do not exist.

Yeah i hate people stop using something just because of some ingredients. I am sure the scientists that formulate those products knows better than you do. Everything is there for a reason. EVERY ingredient work TOGETHER to give u the best results. If u break out from using some products, it just mean it is not suitable for you. Not because of the "bad ingredient" inside. Why would brands EVER make something that will break people out with those "bad ingredients "?????

You shouldn't put anything with coconut oil on your face. It is moderately to highly comedogenic (pore clogging). The exception is virgin coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil is non-comedogenic. So unless the product specifically says that it uses only virgin coconut oil, skip it. Virgin coconut oil is more expensive so if a product doesn't specify and it's bargain priced just assume that you souldn't put it on your face.

It makes me sad too because I was thoroughly enjoying all of your videos! I would much prefer to just see your makeup choices, learn why they are/aren’t good (outside of the Ingredients!) and then make my own decision about that item. The perseveration on the “bad” ingredients needs to be put to rest. 😩

I agree with the comments about milking it on the “toxic” talk. It comes off as kind of offensive; as if the people who watch your videos have no idea what they’re putting on/ in their body. Not everyone is oblivious. I’m allergic to chamomile and if I use it on my body I have a bad reaction. This wouldnt mean chamomile is a toxic ingredient, it means it doesn’t work for ME personally. This goes for many ingredients. It would be so cool to have an actual dermatologist on your Chanel to discuss these things in a video with you if it’s something you’re passionate about people being aware of! I love your videos think it’s so cool that your researching clean skincare and beauty but I feel like a lot of the information your curating from the internet is not accurate.

I enjoy and appreciate that she mentions these things because I think it’s good to be aware of things that you wouldn’t put on or in your body if you knew it was in a product. However, I’m bored of it. I get it you don’t like bad ingredients, no one actively wants bad ingredients. Tati. Girl. You know I love you, I comment on almost every video and I would never give you hate. But the rants or talks you do about ingredients comes across as so patronising and it feels like you’re building up a possible release of your own “clean, healthy” skincare or makeup etc. I appreciate the talks sometimes but not when they take up most of the video when I’m here to see your critiques on why a certain product didn’t work etc. Otherwise, much love to you and happy new year. 💜

@@mygirldarby Obviously it's ridiculous to expect brands to have EVERY shade that humans have but every brand should make a real effort to be as inclusive as possible. Clearly it can be done so these brands just appear to just be lazy or just don't care to be inclusive imo.
