Funny thing about Susan and Ross is that, in the episode where Susan and Carol get married, there's a scene towards the end in which Susan thanks Ross for encouraging Carol to marry her, and they end up dancing together, it was a nice moment and could've signified a turning point where both characters have some respect for one another, but all future appearances of Susan consist of "lol fuck you Ross" and said respect seemed to be only temporary. I'm not saying they had to be best friends but it would've been nice for their "relationship" to have some development.

i'm so glad you called out Susan on her horrible toxic behaviour. no matter Carol''s personal issues about what was going on in her head about her acceptance of her true self, Susan had an affair with a married woman and hated Ross for having a romantic relationship with Carol, previous who was married too at the time. She tried to take over the pregnancy, the name of the baby, and make it all about her. casually forgetting that legally she had no rights at all. she even wanted Ben to have her last name, instead of Geller. She really was manipulative, toxic and looking it through another lens. was Susan manipulated to leave her husband to be with her, while also gaslighted to believe and go along with everything Susan said. remember that Susan's was Carol's first relationship with her own gender outside the remarriage as we know, which means in a power dynamic Susan was holding all the cards the fact that at the time same marriage was hardly ever depicted in media at all, so instead of having someone who came in, fell in love with Susan after she split up with Ross, and then Susan found out she was pregnant, and was presented as a decent person with a new dynamic and was friendly to ross, and learning how to co-parents. instead, we got Susan, who just hated Ross on sight. the whole thing really should have been done better

I agree, they kinda made same sex marriage and relationships look bad because of it. Everyone can have flaws sure and this could happen (rarely) but they chose to present a same sex relationship in a really negative way, demonising it instead of showing how "normal" they can be and are. It really sucked tbh :/ Furthermore people having flaws doesn't excuse toxic behaviour in any way. They could've presented her as having some flaws but still being a relatively good person.

What always annoys me about Friends writing is this syndrome of suddenly changing an outside partner's personality drastically because they needed it to end for an in-group relationship. Like, you had Monica dating Pete, who was charming and worked great for her, but they needed to get single for the fourth season, so out of the blue Pete becomes obsessed with UFC. Emily's relationship with Ross was pretty healthy, whatever you may think about hastiness, but then the writers needed to break them up for another batch of Ross-Rachel drama, so she suddenly becomes manipulative and hysteric.

And Phoebe's boyfriend the cop, who shot a defenseless creature because it annoyed him after they moved in together, when their relationship started with him _not_ arresting her or at least pressing charges for falsely using his badge because he wanted to ask her out instead...wait...no...think that one was actually warranted...

They all have gone through "Flanderization" until the end. The act of taking a single (often minor) action or trait of a character within a work and exaggerating it more and more over time until it completely consumes the character. Monica got the worst of it because at least Joey and Phoebe were funny in their stupidity while Monica really wasnt with her OCD tidyness.
@LunatiqHigh
@LunatiqHigh 3 жыл бұрын
Not really, Phoebe goes to night school to catch up on all the highschool she missed out on. She'd even self taught herself French while she was homeless. Rachel immediately starts her transformation in the very first episode going from a barbie doll to working in fashion at a higher level. I think the Monica thing makes sense, she had to be strict and unforgiving to lose what? 120 or so pounds in one year, and then to keep that off for the remaining years? People tend to be clean like this, tend to be like that their entire lives. I have a friend who's mother is a janitor all her life (don't knock, she can make a lot of money depending on which company she's contracting to). She's now 42 and has taken on ALL of her monthers cleaning habits. There's not even any scuff or smudge of anything on the back of her toilet (she just meme'd about this on FB and showed us how clean the back of her toilet is. lol). Her mother is now 67 or something and she's still as obsessed about her house being clean as she was when I was 5 an friends with her son. I think what you're trying to say is that you're trying to dicdtate that a joke isn't funny unless YOU find it funny. It's fine, but there are other jokes that will play into other people. Let's throw out your favorite series and let's dive into their flaws, every show has them.

Rachel and Ross getting back together at random, isn't really random. I remember binge watching the show a few years back and you realize that almost every finale Ross and Rachel get together only for the premier of the next season to rip them apart because it's to early. You missed more stuff about Rachel imo. While I agree with all the stuff about Ross, everyone seems to gloss over how jealous Rachel got over Ross's girlfriends too. -She begged him to take Emily off her hands so she could go on a date with Joshua, stating that she thought they were at a point where they could be happy for each other... but then was sour that Ross and Emily got along really well. After he announced that he and Emily would be getting married, she tries to push her relationship with Joshua closer to marriage to just be "even" with Ross. -She allowed Phoebe to set Ross up with Bonnie, under the guise that Phoebe said she was bald. And then when she turned out to be not bald, Rachel gets mad at Phoebe. Once Bonnie shows up to the beach to be with Ross, Rachel becomes (understandably) miserable. She convinces Bonnie to shave her head, knowing that superficial Ross will not like it. Then after he breaks it off with Bonnie to be with Rachel, she refuses a kiss (even though she kissed him before while Ross was still with Bonnie) and writes the infamous 18-page front and back letter blaming Ross for all their prior problems. -She was extremely rude to Julie and again kissed Ross while he was still with her. Julie was super cool and was probably the best suited for Ross but because of Ross's long crush on Rachel, he breaks things off with Julie. Obviously, the pros and cons list was not nice (again, I'm not saying that Ross is a good guy but we know that already) but Rachel essentially makes Ross break up with Julie only to immediately break up with Ross. -On her birthday she kisses Gavin on the balcony of Monica's apartment and then gets mad when Ross brings that obsessive lady into his apartment (and Rachel calls it HER apartment), and glosses over the point that Ross makes about how he was taking care of their daughter whilst she was kissing Gavin. -Even though Rachel didn't do anything with Mark while she was with Ross, Mark comes over while they were on a break, and Rachel doesn't really stop him. Not only that, but Mark was the first guy that she went out with after their breakup. -And lastly, Rachel is a selfish sore loser. If things work out the way she wanted them to, she'll march around and give people half-baked advice about how they just have to be better and if she can do it, then so can they. But when she doesn't get her way, it has to be everyone's problem. i.e. after Ross and Rachel break up, and Ross is the only one who can rescue them from car troubles, she forces her friends to keep freezing just because she doesn't want to deal with Ross. When Joey stupidly bids a lot on the boat, she doesn't care if Joey can't afford the boat, and nearly forces him to buy it so that her boss won't get mad at her. When they play the trivia game betting on the apartment, Monica even calls her out when they lose saying that if Chandler and Joey lost, she would've made them give up the birds while not wanting to give up the apartment. There's probably more, but this comment is already way too long. Sorry! Good video Vee Infuso!

I got behind most of these but the phoebe bit was just a fundamental misunderstanding of the character lol the point of her stories is that she is bizarre and does bizarre things. I literally said “that’s the joke” out loud at the video at one point. And Mike and Phoebe make so much sense, he grounds her in reality with his average Joe-ness. And it makes sense she didn’t end up with David, if you think about it, they only saw each other a few times over 8 years, they grew and changed apart from each other and weren’t the people they were when they first dated.

I don’t blame Chandler being transphobic in the beginning, his father was the reason for some of his problems, and yes the mom not being there to help him during that period was her fault as well. However, even gay people would not have blamed Chandler as a child should not have to go through that, it’s a painful part of that child’s life. And let’s not forget that when Ross and Rachel were forcing their friends to pick after there heartbreaking break up, he started smoking again and it brought back painful memories of his parents divorce. I’m in no way transphobic but I would not ever blame Chandler and he did accept his father in the end. The problem with the current generation is that they only hear or see this part of Chandlers arc and automatically smell blood. Research before you judge

Susan really bugged me. Carol cheating on Ross gave him a lot of trust issues and issues with jealousy which affected his relationship with Rachel. And for Susan to be so rude and rub it in is just awful. Especially to take over the whole pregnancy really pissed me off. A lot of younger people do actually like Susan and think she’s a badass or whatever. I see it online sometimes and i don’t know it just rubs me the wrong way. I know it’s just a show but if that was to happen in real life, nobody would be on her side. And people would understand why Ross was such a jealous person in relationships and didn’t trust anyone. Because he was cheated on. Whatever this show is good but it also sucks

Me too, upon rewatching the show, Susan just becomes more unbearable and unnecessarily cavalier each time. @@daisy-ee8ki I think a lot of the people, regardless of age, who like and defend Susan are the same kind of people that think that gay people are inherently perfect solely because they are gay. I'm not saying there's anything inherently wrong with them either, but even if you take into account the possibility that Susan might be insecure about Ross and Carol's relationship post-marriage, it still doesn't make her behavior any less deplorable. Normal people can deal with jealousy and insecurity without devolving into a number of choice words that the KZfaq bots would erase my comment for using.

@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince I partly agree with you on that one. I understand it must’ve been weird for both of them. But even though it’s a show, I sometimes can’t help but think about what it would be like in real life. And how broken people become when they go through a divorce. Especially if the significant other was cheating on you and then came out as a lesbian and is pregnant with your baby AND the women she was cheating on you with also takes care of your son. Also about the gay thing you mentioned. I agree and disagree. A lot of people now like her because she’s a lesbian which is weird to say but if she was a man people would call him a bitch and wouldn’t stick up for him. I am a woman who is bi so I’m not homophobic at all. Just had to clarify incase anyone came at me for saying that in the comments. But it’s true. I just can’t get my head around it. I saw one Instagram comment saying ‘no wonder carol cheated on Ross with her’ and I know it’s a show I’m not stupid. But I just, some of these people man. A lot of people now try and ‘cancel’ Ross for being ‘problematic’ which just ruins the character for me sometimes because people won’t stop bringing it up. Like when he was weird about the male nanny which was slightly strange and annoying, but there was a reason to it. A reason I can relate too. His dad was a mans man and did like Ross to be anything girly at all. He wanted him to go outside and all that. Idk there’s just always reasons to why people act the way they do. Once again I know it’s a show I’m not one of those weirdos but it does annoy me. Friends is a classic show but some of the jokes wouldn’t survive in today’s climate, even if it was popular. I obviously wasn’t alive when it came out but I did love watching it as a child and just thought it was a nice show with a nice apartment with nice people who were all attractive. anyways sorry for that long paragraph I know I might have repeated myself a lot but I just. I used to be a huge fan of friends to the point where it’s all I watched for a year straight. Not kidding. And I know it inside out. And I have all this pent up anger towards the show that I can’t take out on my friends because they think the show is basic. ANYWAY getting off track. Susan sucks end of story.

One thing you missed was the constant fluctuation of the friend’s financial situation. It’s weird considering the only one who was rich was Rachel. Everyone else was middle class at most. There’s also the fact that 2 bedroom New York sky view apartments with balconies aren’t cheap. In some episodes they’re eating out and going to expensive parties, and in others they’re lamenting about debt and having to shop at thrift stores. I will defend Ross to the death for what is essentially bad writing. They really massacred him at times and those are the ones people remember. The male nanny thing was so out of character that it made absolutely no sense for him to behave that way. The cousin thing was, again, horrendously bad writing. The only one I think could be explained is Ben and the barbie, only because Ross was constantly being sidelined by Carol and Susan and was constantly missing out on stuff. He's not right to do what he did but a) this was 1995 and b) it was one way of him actually having control over something. By the end of the episode he'd pretty much realised he was being an idiot and it never came up again. Rachel was the most toxic character out of the lot of them. If people put as much effort into her as they do into Ross they'd realise she's an absolute piece of trash.

Joey and Rachel is one of the biggest atrocities to ever occur on television.

The criticism on Ross for dating Elizabeth is somewhat unfair. 1. She is his former student. They start dating after she completes his class. 2. His ex girlfriend dates Elizabeth's father and their age gap is bigger then Ross and Emily but somehow that isn't discussed and ridiculed. For me Rachel and Elizabeth's dad (Paul?) relationship are more questionable then Ross and Elizabeth considering all involved.

Unpopular opinion #1: Joey and Rachel made a better couple than Ross and Rachel. The perfect moment that illustrates this is in the season 9 premiere when they tell Rachel that Joey didn't propose, and that it was Ross's ring.. and then Ross is all "Maybe we could think about dating" and Joey says that he was willing to marry her just because of the misunderstanding.. Unpopular opinion #2: there is nothing good about the brad Pitt thanksgiving cameo..

I love the show, but can recognize it’s flaws. I am not a fan of on again/off again relationships and Ross and Rachel’s annoyed me. She wanted him when he was moving on and when he wanted her, she wanted nothing to do with him. That’s why when Monica and Chandler got together, it was a relief because they became such a stable couple. The difference between Ross and Rachel (who the writers made the main couple) and Chandler and Monica is that C and M deal with their problems and the personality traits that can be overbearing (like Chandler’s fear of commitment or his need to substitute humour in situations that don’t require it or Monica’s obsessive neuroticisms and OCD). The writers had the perfect opportunity to make Ross and Rachel become that couple during season 8, but failed and gave us the worst idea of a relationship ever and a waste of a storyline.

Also as for Chandler, I think people who call him transphobic don't realise, he has just as bad a relationship with his mom, and it's shown that not only did his parents have a messy divorce he was caught in the middle of, but both were equally terrible in how they were flaunting their sexuality in front of Chandler growing up and making him massively uncomfortable. Best illustrated by his mom just going to suck face with Chandler's closest friend the moment she gets a chance.

The worse thing about Friends was Joey's character. He never left a chance passing sexual comments on those three ladies who were supposed to be his friends. He always wanted to sleep with all of them. Maybe its my cultural difference speaking, but how a girl will feel comfortable around a friend like this?

Could be worse; could be Donna in That 70s Show with _two_ of her male friends not just ogling and hitting on her constantly, but even making moves to grope her and stalk her (seriously, Fez? you hide in her closet as a matter of _course?_ You deserved Caroline).

The thing with richard never really bothered me cause my mom married my step dad who was 19 years older then her and they were happy, my younger brother married a women about 13 to 14 years older then him recently and he's happy and my first relationship was with an older man who was a family friend when I was 18 and I was a pretty happy boy, didn't last past 4 years but I wasn't miserable or found it wierd. It's wierd that other people stick their faces in my buisness and tell me who I should date and why they think they know better then me.

In the first episode of "Family Ties", Maloriy was almost as smart (maybe even on the same level) as Alex. Same for Kelly and Bud on 'Married With Children". Writers seem to think they have to have one extremely stupid character on a show.
@MrParkerman6
@MrParkerman6 3 жыл бұрын
Wrong! Mallory was not portrayed in the first episode to be as smart as Alex. He constantly makes jokes about her being dumb in that episode. Also Kelly was stupid from the start of Married with Children, just not as much. ...and Kelly becoming stupider was cuz of Christina Applegate, not the writers. Christ ina Applegate said she didn't fully find the character until she watched The Decline of Western Civilization: The Metal Years and saw a girl in it and she went "That's it! That's Kelly!"

Im so glad someone finally called out the pedophilic relationship between Alice and Frank. It seems like everyone just ignores it but Alice is a straight up predator for going after her 18 year old student. And the show just made it seem like Phoebe was wrong for addressing the wrongness between their age differences because "they loved each other".
