It's time for another WRITG episode guys...
Welcome back to another episode in my Worst Rappers in the Game? series, and today we will be taking a look at Lil Baby.
Baby got his start in the rap game after being released from prison in 2016, recording his project Perfect Timing and releasing it in 2017. He would then follow this up with a mixtape trilogy, Too Hard, Harder Than Hard, and Harder Than Ever which contained big songs (such as Yes Indeed with Drake) that really helped propel him into the spotlight within just a couple of years. Over the next few following years he would release a couple more solo projects (Street Gossip & My Turn), a collaboration project with fellow rapper Gunna (Drip Harder), and a few notable singles with The Bigger Picture, On Me & Errbody. With his Lil Durk collaboration album "Voice of the Heroes" coming out soon, I thought it was finally time to cover Baby in this series.
So, to get a fully formed opinion on his music, I listened to Harder Than Hard, Harder Than Ever, Street Gossip and My Turn. After hearing these, do I think Lil Baby is one of the Worst Rappers in the Game? Well, this is CDTVProductions and watch the video to find out!

I’m not generally a fan of Lil Baby’s music, but I got MAJOR respect for him for The Bigger Picture. He clearly has some major lyrical talent even if he doesn’t always use it, and he’s a pretty smart guy- _everything_ he said on that song was absolutely on the money. To go from an atrocity like Yes Indeed (“Lawyer been chargin’, he Jewish like he voodoo!”) to The Bigger Picture is a level of character development I haven’t seen in rap for a _long_ time.

Yeah, hats off to Lil Baby for Bigger Picture. Songs like that, Self Destruction, and Dont Shoot have been done before in trying times, but they're somehow always a breath of fresh air. I truly think Bigger Picture is going to inspire more character development in popular rap songs/singles in the future just because of Lil Baby being mainstream.

It varies from song to song for me. I can't stand the songs that are coated in autotune. Ik he uses autotune in like all his songs but theres a nice sweet spot with the bigger picture, drip too hard, southside, etc.

Baby has been improving so much over the last year honestly, his features have all been solid and My Turn was a big step up from Street Gossip and Harder Than Hard. His older stuff is not the best music ever, but everything has been improving greatly for him, from flow to voice to beat selection. I have a feeling that Voice of The Heroes is going to show another step forward for Baby in all categories, can’t wait for the album

I think I mostly agree with you in terms of his voice and his production. I think when it comes to his voice, I wouldn't want him to start using less auto tune when he raps and rap more naturally more often, and when he does use auto tune he should make sure that it and his vocals are mixed well. The Production on the other hand, even though I love The Bigger Picture and some of the songs on My Turn, i would love to see him expand out and experiment with different producers and beats and try some new things, an example of that is his new song with Kirk Franklin for the new Space Jam movie sound track, it's called We Will and it's Produced by JussBlaze. I would reccomend you give it a listen, it's pretty good in my opinion.

Thats what autotune does in general. Kids try to say all rappers from the 80/90s all sound the same and yet the rappers they listen uses autotune that replaces their natrual voice with a robotic voice resulting in them soinding simular. I definitely agree about his production it’s just not super interesting a lot of times. In my opinion Lil Baby’s a better rapper than Gunna but Gunna’s production is way better which makes it slightly more enjoyable to listen to.

In terms of beat selection, I agree to an extent. What I will say is the new wave of stuff produced by ChiChi and Section8 are super interesting. These beats are more unique than the typical Quay Stuff, and they have a unique bounce.

I think you should do more of these videos, long style going into pretty deep detail about the different aspects of an artist. Even older artists that aren't so relevant some you personally enjoy would be interesting, because your insight on each of the categories that you broke Lil Baby into was put together rather elegantly, said in a concise well thought out response, and would translate well into the wide spectrum of hip-hop genre's that there are. I don't know if you've listened to BONES, but a video on him would be dope to see, along with Isaiah Rashad, K.A.A.N and like Mos Def.

Havent watched yet but i think lil baby has a lot of potential, just listen to the bigger picture, but as an album my turn was mid, i think he can drop amazing songs but mid albums hes better for playlists and features

Hearing that mashup between a Baby song with Flashing Lights' beat was a shock to me. I never understood the hype with Lil Baby because I felt he was incredibly bland, but maybe this entire time it has been a mix between a normal to above average flow with generic production. Maybe I'll have to start paying more attention to Baby.
