Having lived and worked in Tokyo as a foreigner, I can say one thing Japan is gonna regret hosting the Olympics just like Brazil. The influx of foreigners that Tokyo will have to bear for those 2-3 weeks will definitely stress out the already foreigner averse Japanese.

@@ybmb1121 なんで? Yes it's true you can see it in a bad way, but it could benefit Japan for the future. It could get more people interested in moving to Japan which would help the low birth rate that has hurt Japan's population for many years now. It will bring a lot of money to Japan and lots of publicity. This will benefit the country if done right. I hope many people after this will consider moving here.

@@ybmb1121 So we should give up on solving any problems in the country. That sounds like a good idea to me, stop trying to fix problems instead we should complain online about our taxes. Listen I'm aware of the problems with the government and there are many laws I don't agree with. However comparing it to America it's not much different when it comes to problems in the government, in some ways the US is worse and in others Japan is worse. Both are great countries instead of complaining online I will stay positive and try to help the issues that we deal with.

I saw the Japanese interview and they said they wanted foreigners to come and eat Fukushima food. Cuz they are afraid to eat Fukushima food, so they recommend it to foreigners. Chernobyl's radioactive levels are still the same 30 years after the incident. It's been less than a decade since Fukushima happened.

It rains basically all year... a little dry in winter. But your average trip should include a rain day, and probably 1-3 other days with some weather but not all day. That's just how it goes. Tsuyu is more rain than you'd probably want and it's already summer so the heat is already ramping up and all that rain getting dumped isn't helping keep down the humidity.

If you're thinking of going to visit Japan for the Olympics, make sure you're going for the Japanese Olympics. If you just want to see an Olympics, wait for Paris 2024 or LA 2028. If you just want to see Japan, go some other time. There are some interesting things to see in Japan in late July and August. But don't expect to be able to do the normal things or see a normal Japan when there's a huge influx of foreign tourists crowding everything during some of the most brutal heat of the year. You can still make a good trip of it- but PLAN ACCORDINGLY.

So I was able to dominate the hot temps with no problem, but... STAY HYDRATED! If visiting in summer... Do not take that for ganted. Even if you think you can make it to the next block... i've been to japan all of those times except for new years and the heat is by far the worst thing, still not a deal breaker at all. and golden week is not as bad as everyone make it seem.

I made the mistake of going there last time in the middle of the rainy season. It was actually a lot of fun, and there were no lines anywhere. Of course it was so foggy in Hakone that they shut the boats down. Oh well, my next trip will be in late July, yeeaaaa!!!

I moved to Tokyo from California and personally I can’t handle the heat in August. On the other hand, my friend absolutely loves the summer weather, which is beyond me..

My best friend and I are and have been planning a trip to Tokyo for a long time. We plan on going the weekend school ends next year in May. We wanted to be in japan from May 20-May30. I read online on many sources that rainy season starts early June. Will I be dodging the rain? Because my friend and I don’t mind like 2-3 days of rain but we really don’t want all 10 days spoiled.

Should be fine. You may get rain. It could even rain every day. But it shouldn't be tsuyu (rainy season). It's usually considered to start around a week into June, so even if it's early next year it'd probably just graze your trip at most. The distinction may be a bit hard to grasp- but pretty much in tsuyu the expectation is rain. In late May, the expectation is for sun and an occasional storm passing through. So to "lose" (you can do other stuff, but I know, no rain is better) 7+ days of of a trip in May to weather would be awful luck, while it's just the expectation in mid-June to mid-July.

I just came back from Tokyo last week and the heat and humidity was literal hell that was in July... so it gets worse in August?
@redfish337
@redfish337 5 жыл бұрын
August is hotter, but usually drier (barring typhoons). I wasn't there this summer but it seemed like rainy season dragged on this year pretty far into July. Late July and August still suck in terms of heat, but early July is probably the worst time to visit because it's still super humid AND rain is expected so nothing interesting is scheduled.

It's fine, especially later October when the chance of a typhoon becomes almost nothing. It can start to be getting a little bit chilly, but overall it's a great time. Make sure you research the fall leaves schedule, particularly if you plan to be visiting places outside Tokyo.
