Good review! Just got my unit a week ago from Breville PH and they do include non-pressurized single and double baskets. The steam wand also can dispense hot water when you press and hold the single cup button and froth level button at the same time for about a second. Cheers! :)

Agree nice review for those who only wish to buy pre-ground coffee. I bought the same Bambino Plus in the UK 2 months ago, badged as Sage in Europe. It came with single and double walled baskets. Didn't like the new portafilter design so bought a refurbished Breville 54mm portafilter from eBay and removed the plastic distributor under the basket. At the same time bought the Sage Smart Grinder Pro. Buy my freshly roasted beans locally having noted that the Bambino will only make acceptable coffee from darker roasts because the constant hot water setting of 83C (?) is not suitable for lighter roasts requiring 84/85C. One should note the Bambino delivers a constant ideal pressure of 8bar by means of a modulating bypass valve arrangement. It has taken me some time to dial in the best brew grind size. For the moment for those interested I am grinding to 12 setting on the Pro, 19 gram coffee and the single wall basket. The brew infusion is 11 sec and 25 sec total time. Mostly make Latte or Capachino (with sprinkled chocolate). Finally I like the auto milk function using chilled semi cream, but use the mid point setting for both temperature and foam. Oh yeah, forgot to say I use a multi wire stirrer to prevent tunnelling and a porta filter clip on funnel to reduce spillage. Of course I also bought an electronic weigh scale which is essential but I should have got a narrower one to fit my grinder. Hope all of my rambling is of some use to those with this machine and note I am probably now at level 1 (out of 10) on my long route to barista level so excuse any mistakes. F☕️

Brilliant review, thank you! I love my bambino plus, my old machine didn't have the auto froth function and I find this so useful. I do buy ground coffee as I can't afford a good grinder just yet so the pressurised basket is perfect and I like the fact the steam wand purges itself. Great for beginners like me who would probably find it too much having to check on pressure gauges and temps, etc.

This is an excellent review, probably the best I've seen for this coffee maker. I just received my Brevlle Barista Pro yesterday. The very first thing I did, besides washing the accessories out for the first use was to try pre ground espresso in the provided double shot dual wall basket. The reason why I did this is to have a baseline of what the coffee maker can provide. After that, I exclusively used the single wall basket, and fine tuned my grind setting until the espresso shots were much better than what the dual walls can provide.

Your review sold me on the Bambino Plus and I hope you make more content. I've been making espresso shots with a Flair, and while I do like it, it's a fairly elaborate process. Sometimes a person just wants a quick & easy latte. Bambino Plus has been an excellent addition.
@HoneycombManila
@HoneycombManila 2 жыл бұрын
This is true. I never really bought into the flair for this reason. I guess that it's really fatigue of being in specialty coffee for so long. I ran a slow bar once for 4 years. The first 18 months, we were 100% hand grinders and passive kettles. The dance of the elaborate process was fun for maybe a year, but then you eventually get over the romance and realize that it doesn't all necessarily lead to a great coffee either. Great coffee can be attained through a variety of paths.

Great review - thank you. I am absolutely new to all of this "make your own" coffee-making experience. When I lived in San Francisco I could get great coffee anywhere. THANK YOU for identifying me as the target audience and why: 1) You dispelled the myth that I cannot use store-bought ground coffee - yeah., 2) You clearly identified why they only have pressurized baskets (see point #1), 3) You clearly articulated the quality of coffee that I should expect, and I am fine with your description. I don't want to become a barista and I am not a coffee snob looking to "dial-in" my coffee. I want a predictable and reliable machine. 4) The steam wand was an excellent review - "use it in auto for speed and adequate results, and manual for refined quality". Anyway, best review ever on this machine. Congrats!! Please let me know if I misspoke about the pre-ground coffee.

Since I buy my coffee regularly from a local company Bolt and they grind it for me. Usually use it up in a month. I always add the portafilter and rinse it through with the single button then add my coffee and make a double shot. Don’t understand what you did by pressing the two shot buttons first instead of how I do it. Again great video. Learnt a lot.

An excellent review of the Breville Bambino Plus. A shame that it's so expensive in the Phillipines. I bought the Bambino Plus/Smart Grinder Pro combo 2 years ago in Australia for A$785 (~ PHP 28000). Current MSRP in Australia for the Bambino Plus is A$619 (~ PHP 22000) and online prices range from A$499-599 (~ PHP 18,000-21600). It's a great entry-level unit and I love the styling. Easy to use and easy to clean up. This was a major factor in my buying decision, as I was concerned that if it required too much care & maintenance I wouldn't use it often. It gets used every day to make morning coffees for my wife and myself. My only complaint is that the automatic frothing has stopped frothing after about 12 months, and I see that other owners have a similar problem. Also worth noting that Australian units are supplied with both single and double shot pressurised and non-pressurised baskets. I started out using the pressurised basket but have now graduated to using the non-pressurised basket. I would recommend this unit for anyone considering their first espresso coffee machine for home use - for the money you really can't go wrong, and even if you decide to upgrade in a few years time you'll have got your money's worth for the original investment.

I enjoyed your review here, especially because you included some useful info about pressurized baskets and coffee quality comparisons. Real World stuff. May I ask what machine you were using to grind your specialty beans here? I'd say that one of the target markets for this machine is those folks like myself who own a grinder that just isn't up to espresso requirements but can still be successfully used with the pressurized "crutch". I come from a pourover world and I have a pretty fancy grinder for that (Baratza Virtuoso+) that simply isn't capable of grinding precisely fine enough for an unpressurized basket. But I'm enjoying lovely cappuccinos from my new Bambino Plus thanks to the pressurized basket. I alternate between pour overs (V60 and Hario Switch) and now espresso thanks to the Bambino Plus. I have very limited counter space for my coffee hobby so I can't have multiple grinders, or a larger prosumer espresso machine, so this little wonder fits into my coffee making environment just fine. I'll eventually own an all-in-one grinder that can grind for espresso as well as coarser (pour over, french press) without breaking the counter space budget, and then I'll try out unpressurized baskets and up the espresso level.

thanks, Joey. I will probably get the basket in in a few weeks, but honestly, is already so much to cover in just this first "stock setup" video. Regarding the classes, I've only done one over zoom since the pandemic, and it's really difficult to do well if you can't see what your attendees are doing in terms of grind sizes, pour speed, etc. I'm still trying to figure out a good way to to do this online that's not just a set of lectures.

Great video! Thank you for the clear and concise review of the machine. I’m in the US, and i just ordered the machine for $100 less. I;m hoping it’s not one of those rebuilt or returned items. But your review gave me a realistic expectations from it. I wouldn’t have paid $600 for it, but it sounds like a fair price for $399. I’m graduating from the dedica model from delonghi. Honestly, I kept wishing for it to die already, haha. Sorry, but I’m tired of making my mediocre coffee from it. I can’t wait to use my new Bambino. It arrives in a few days. Thank you again, maraming salamat po!! Proceeding to watch the rest of your videos!! And will share this with my friends.

Pesado has incredible IMS baskets at pesado.com.au/products/pesado-filter-basket-24-5-18g?variant=40122780418219 . Their shipping calculator has shipping to manila costing around Php1300 for 0-1KG. Tip: buy more than one item, and keep the total cost (sometimes including shipping) below Php10K so that you can avoid duties. Maximize that shipping fee!

I've been doing 2 empty shots, and letting the second one sit in the filter for a couple mins to warm everything up. Blind steam also, but steam won't ever be lukewarm because it's got achieve heat in the first place in order to become steam in the first place.

RE: overheating on multiple cups - I think it's PID controlled, so there shouldn't be an overheating issue (it's not clear if that was tested/confirmed) Edit - and the lack of a boiler means less waiting between shots and streaming, might actually be a significantly better option for making multiple drinks, short of going dual boiler
@HoneycombManila
@HoneycombManila 2 жыл бұрын
Great insight! Yes, you are right, there's a PID, but no display readout. So it's somewhat temperature controlled and stable, but the user has no obvious control over what that temperature is. In terms of the thermoblock system being good for making multiple drinks, this is true, but there is an upper limit. We see this in our Decent DE1Pro+ as well, which uses similar no-boiler tech, as well as with the Morning Machine (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b6ipppyjtce0l6M.html). In terms of that upper limit, we honestly don't have the budget to test multiple units until breaking point, which is what a well-funded group like Consumer Reports would do, so I would highly recommend keeping it to under 5 shots an hour and under 20 shots a day. Even if the water continues to be the correct temperature, there are many other plastic or rubber parts in the system that won't manage the stress the way that the thermoblock will. In an overworked Breville Dual Boiler, these plastic or rubber parts will be the first things to fail and need replacing.

It's possible, bit you probably have to use less coffee. This will: - restrict the shot less, faster flow rate - absorb less water - defeat any early cut off mechanism. Some electronic machines have this to keep the pump from burning out

I've read that, since it has instant-on (well, 3 seconds), the temperature is set just slightly higher to account for the fact that the brewhead/portafilter will not have warmed up - ie it's calibrated to brew from a cold start. Have you tried making something without flushing water through it first? Also, would love to see what you can do on this unit with a non-pressurized basket...how good does it get?

The answer is "it depends." What is your tap water like? Is it hard or soft? In other words, what's the minerality level of the water? You need to keep that minerality in check to keep your machine safe. When in doubt, use the filter.
