Albertos intentions can be seen as good but the position he put Luca in could’ve been life threatening. What he did was just another manipulative trick of the many Alberto has displayed. Albertos past trauma has left him with a little bit of selfishness and pride which is why he felt he was compelled to prove to Luca that people will never except them. He felt entitled to prove he was right. That’s why I love the ending Alberto puts his own dreams and personal feeling aside to make Luca happy for once and it’s the most adorable and nicest thing a friend could do.

In a way Luca and Alberto are foils to each other as Luca came from a sheltered, overbearing family who at least had his best interests in mind, while Alberto despite his freedom to do whatever he wants to still had great difficulty in finding the love and acceptance he was denied by his father. At some point in the story, this was bound to be a source of conflict between the two. I also really appreciate how this movie showed that all friendships, no matter how great, are in someway going to have falling outs/rough patches at times.

while i agree with you on luca’s part alberto’s isn’t exactly true!! alberto didn’t try to out luca as a sea monster, he outed himself because he knew luca had a different mindset to alberto and alberto would rather out himself and Prove to luca that the moment humans find out what they are they’ll be afraid of them. alberto also kept asking questions luca for wanting to go to school because he knew if luca were to ever be seen as himself he would always ask luca about how will he know how they’ll react to it. alberto also clearly has severe abandonment issues and outed himself also because he was getting closer to giulia and was jealous because of that. he wanted to show that giulia couldn’t be trusted to be his friend because he was afraid of losing him. this is just my take on it though so you can agree or disagree on it!!

Eeeeh... I still blame Alberto more than Luca. Alberto had no right to put Luca in that position, especially after trying to manipulate him using his fears and literally pushing him around, and double especially after insisting Luca should trust him to lead and then trying to sabotage Luca's friendship with Giulia. That is some DEEP toxicity. Alberto threw himself under the bus and intended for Luca to follow. Luca doesn't owe Alberto control of his "coming out" and the kind of control Alberto demands over his friend's life is not something anyone should enable. Alberto outed himself intending for things to be worse for Luca because of it, and so as far as I'm concerned, not giving him what he wanted was the right choice.

I too was heartbroken at seeing Alberto basically becoming so depressed, at being betrayed that even his own life being in danger didn't seem important to him. It shows how much he cared for Luca and makes the betrayal all the more worse.

I think the only reason Luca threw Alberto under the bus like that because Alberto put him on the spot, even when Luca repeatedly told him to stop. We know Alberto had decent intentions where he was showing Luca the reality of their situation, but he forcibly put Luca in a situation he wasn’t ready for, causing the boy to panic and pick the safer option of keeping up their lie. More or less, they’re both wrong, though Alberto instigated it.

Gosh, I am so absolutely sick of so many people acting like Alberto did nothing wrong. Alberto at that moment was a _toxic_ friend. He was literally pushing Luca around. He threw himself under a bus and tried to encourage Luca to follow. He spent the whole movie encouraging Luca not to listen to his fears and insecurities and then turned around and tried to control him through them. _Alberto wasn't being a good friend._ Luca didn't "throw away" that friendship by asserting normal boundaries. Alberto was getting increasingly controlling and possessive over Luca. Alberto literally and figuratively hijacked control of the situation out of Luca's hands even when Alberto himself didn't know how to handle it and ignored all of Luca's feelings and protests about it. That's what the bike crash symbolizes. That's what their _fight_ is about. Alberto repeatedly asked Luca to trust him and to follow Alberto's lead. And then after Luca began becoming brave and more assertive and realized Alberto didn't always know what was right in every situation, Alberto couldn't handle Luca's deminishing _dependence_ on him, so he ended up _talking like Bruno,_ using Luca's fears and insecurities as excuses to manipulate Luca into ceasing his friendship with Giulia. ("What if she sees you? When ANYONE sees you?") Alberto hadn't cared much about the risks of exposure before, and he doesn't care after; he literally exposes himself, putting Luca in not only an unfair, but _dangerous_ situation, and proving _exactly why Luca shouldn't follow his lead._ Alberto is a _good_ friend. He cares about Luca deeply. But he has his baggage and his flaws, and in this moment he let them control him and make him into a deeply toxic friend who abused Luca's dependence on him, pushed Luca around, and tried to manipulate Luca to sooth his own insecurities, and when that didn't work, intentionally and unnecessarily thrust Luca into a dangerous situation. Alberto _expected_ Giulia to react with hostility, and he _expected_ Luca to side with him and expose himself. Alberto wasn't looking out for Luca's or even his own wellbeing here; he was looking out for himself and what personally would sooth his issues, even if it ruined everything they worked for and made things much more dangerous for them. And further, this isn't "internalized homophobia" or Alberto getting outed and turned on by his also-queer friend, if we go with the LGBTQA+ interpretation. This was Alberto outing himself out of spite and trying to control how and when Luca "outs" himself, which he has absolutely no right to do. Alberto just became... incredibly selfish and controlling. You don't validate that kind of selfish and self-destructive behavior by giving someone like that what they want, even if you do love them. You establish boundaries. As far as I'm concerned, Luca did the right thing. This is not to say Alberto is a bad person. Alberto stared down his flaws and overcame them because of how much he cared for Luca. That's what a good friend does; that's what a loving _person_ does, when that love becomes truly healthy and selfless. But we shouldn't pretend those flaws weren't there and act like Luca turned on him for no good reason. It cheapens both of their characters if you do.

When you have a friend who gets controlling, who tries to pressure and manipulate you and then tries to take control out of your hands entirely, this is what you do: you deny them what they want, at least as far as it can be achieved through you. Refuse it as best you can. Entirely, if you can manage. You do not validate this behavior as a method that works in getting them what they want. And then when things are calm, you try to talk to them. Because if they're really your friend and they truly care about you, they deserve that much and they'll understand why this was a violation. And you need to understand why they would stoop to such disrespectful tactics in your relationship. Often - not always, but often - the friend is going through related issues and lashing out because they need help. Luca does this. Admittedly, their initial disagreement is ugly, but what serious conflict between friends isn't? Luca asserts his boundaries, refuses to validate toxic methods of influencing him, and then goes to talk with Alberto later. Things only went as far out of control as they did because Alberto kept instigating for the sake of control, but Luca didn't give it to him, and still touched bases to attempt to work things out afterwards. This was the right, and healthy, course of action. And Alberto responds in kind: he refuses to let his insecurities control him further and re-prioritizes Luca's wellbeing rather than his own selfish desires. And Luca stops letting the strong personalities in his life dictate his potential and future, instead taking the benefits and responsibilities of controlling his own life for himself. Both of them grow to have so much healthier a view of the world and themselves from what they learn from each other through this.

Both are strong personalities that let their fears control their relationship with Luca, and while they love him, they don't exactly consider his wellbeing initially in resolving the conflict. Both even use attempted exposure to bring him back to them, which would objectively put him in a far more dangerous position. I guess that's why, narratively speaking, Alberto is the one to convince Daniela to let Luca go.

Unpopular Opinion: I actually didn't like Luca, I think it's Ok, but that doesn't mean I like it. The movie was said to be a coming of age story, that was charming, and fun, and entertaining. in reality, it was just a generic, underdog, story, that was already used in two other Pixar Movies, The Book of Life & Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII😂 Of course I'm talking about Coco & Monsters University. I mean seriously, think about it, a film where someone magically enters the outside world, and meets a cool looking guy who's confident, and has a scene that reveals why the person is cool and confident for some reason, that's exactly like what Coco did, the same goes to Monsters University, I mean come on, the movie becomes Monsters University all over again. Come to think of it, Luca is is basically doing a lot of scenes, elements and ideas from other Pixar Movies. There's of course the fact that the main characters are a naive boy who goes to a world that he isn't suppose to go to and a cool confident looking guy who's so cool who somehow has emotion all because of a tragic backstory for that cool dude, as well as the fact that they're suppose to achieved their goals by participating in a sporting event. But you also have A Champion who always wins cuz he cares about himself and loves the money with two comic reliefs with one of them named Guido, you have a red haired girl who has a father who wants to hunt down an animal, a family who tells their son not to do something, a chase scene someone uses a scooter/vespa, a John Ratzenburger Cameo that's unknown which might be because he isn't in a Pixar Movie, a person wearing a french mustache, a location that is set in Portocorso Italy, a record player that the main character listens to, a person who reveals his monster like attitude which scares a little girl, another jab at weirdos and their silly words cough, Luca's Uncle, Cough Tow Mater. And above all, you have a scene that's basically a dream sequence, which happened in another Pixar Movie starring a Race Car don't you think. There's Originallity, and There's Running out of ideas, Luca proves that Pixar is running out of ideas. And as for this video, I don't even care. A lot of the comments I've read are mostly about how much the commenter was shocked that Luca betrays Alberto, and oh boy, let me tell you. That's not how betray works. If Luca betrays Alberto, then he would've been a twist hero, you know, like a twist villain, except Luca is the Main Character of his own movie which means it's a twist hero huh huh. If you want to know a Pixar Movie where someone did betray a character, it's Stinky Pete, and Mr Waternoose, for Mr Waternoose, he felt sympathetic towards Sulley after he threw him and Mike Wazalski away, for Stinky Pete, he tries to convince Sheriff Woody, but, Woody forces him to take drastic measures. Another thing to point out is that, Luca, is basically being a massive idiot, when Alberto explains that schools wouldn't allow sea monsters or whatever, Luca should've just I dunno, realized that not everyone in the surface likes sea creatures, but instead, he still simps over whoever that third wheel girl's name is, by just being a spoiled brat (even though his personality was naive!), by demanding to go to school with her, without understanding what Alberto meant, and while this did happen later in the movie. It was mainly about how Alberto lost his dad, and oh look, we get a scene that was ripped straight from Pixar's other movies. You know what, Since I've been working on a video that I wanted to make, I'm not even going to continue talking about my thoughts or defending a Pixar Scene. Since the last time I did was this was when I defended about why Andy wouldn't regret leaving his toys to Bonnie at the end of Toy Story 3 that was apart of a Toy Story 4 Video, and even then some Toy Story Fanboy who don't understand research and goes in depth, keeps stating that I'm a fake Toy Story Fan and never watched the movies, despite the fact that I clearly did, and literally done my research and looked at it in depth. If this happens again, I'm pretty sure a lot of people are going to hate me on saying I don't like Luca, and I think it's Ok, even though it was just my opinion! I mean seriously, if Luca won an Oscar the Best Animated Feature, then Schaffrilasplsisblah or whatever he says his name, would probably think Mitchells vs the Machines should've won the title of Best Animated Feature, which I agree. I would pefer seeing Mitchells vs the Machines cuz unlike Luca, while it has action scenes and robots, it felt more like a charming, fun, and entertaining movie then Luca, I would probably prefer Boss Baby Family Buisness over Luca, despite the fact that (as I'm recording this) Family Buisness is a sequel to a movie directed by DreamWorks/Nickelodeon/' Equelvient to Pete Docter Tom McGrath. Heck I would rather prefer the Aladdin Knockoff Wish Dragon because it felt more like a coming of age story then Luca even though it's a chinesse knockoff of Aladdin. But when the witch was escaping accidentaly she made Alberto falling from her and he arrived into Italy. Alberto builded the tower by himself and it wasn't from his father, he just lied to Luca because he was afraid that he doesn't gonna to believe him. Alberto also had amnesia, he just remember the name of his mother Aurora that was Scorfanno, and not from his father Arthur that was Pendragon because the witches cursed also affect his memory. Alberto hederate his hair color from his grandfather Stefan. So Alberto's real name is Alberto Pendragon Scorfanno. Maybe in Luca 2 Alberto will go to The Paramo's reign in England to meet his parents and the main antagonist in Luca 2 will be the witch that kidnapped him.

In all fairness the director did say that people are free to interpret the meaning of the story however they choose be it LGBTQI, refugees, anyone with a secret difference or just 2 friends enjoying summer together.

Also Alberto was acting really intense and she noticed it was upsetting Luca which probably would make her react differently. That and the part with Alberto was the first time she saw a sea monster, having it happen a second time would make it less dramatic.
