When Western Oregons Sara Tucholsky hit a three-run shot over the fence against Central Washington on April 26, 2008, her round-tripper gave the Wolves a lead and it also went into the books as the first career home run for the senior outfielder.
But after injuring her knee rounding first, she needed help to make the complete circuit around the bases. In stepped CWUs Mallory Holtman and Liz Wallace, who carried the hobbled Tucholsky around the diamond in an amazing gesture of sportsmanship.

Five years after your comment - fifteen years since the event - I’m emotional, too. What a glorious outcome to a exceptional-cum-tragic event. I’ve watched this video many times to buoy my flagging spirit in humankind. It never fails me.

My daughter's team played a team last weekend where the coach should be made to watch this video 8000 times a day. THIS is what softball should be like, and the fact the opposing coach was emotional and proud of his girls for carrying the player, is just spectacular.

Sportsmanship at it's best! Way to go girls. This story needs to be made into a movie. And all kids in sports should watch this video and take something from it. The final score isn't always the whole story. Winning in life is done so by being noble and kind, not by a score. Again, well done girls. Makes me proud to be a father and coach of a softball team.

One of the greatest human qualities is having the ability to feel for someone else. It's called compassion. It comes naturally for most but obviously not all. I hope you can learn it some day. By the way, if you ever get cancer, you might consider going on an alkaline diet and 'the beck protocol.'

While yes this is a charming story, I can't help but point out that according the the NCAA Softball Rules in 2008 the substituted player should have been allowed to touch the awarded bases (Rule 8.5.3.2 If an injury to a batter-runner or runner prevents her from proceeding to an awarded base, the ball is dead and substitution may be made. The substitute must legally touch all awarded or missed bases not previously touched.)

It was her first and last home run. She missed the rest of the season. It was not about the game it was about the couch and her teammates not wanting to see what she earned taken away. The other two girls saw that and said that she earned the home run and should not have it taken away. You reall miss the point of it all.

No, injuring yourself on a home run hit is called sucking at sports. And why do you assume I'm a fat ass? Is it because I'm watching a video of a girl who doesn't know how to run a base? Why don't you call yourself, as well as the millions of people on this planet who've watched this video, a fat ass. Sara Tucholsky simply deserved not to get credit for an ESPY, the girls who picked her up deserve to have all the credit. That's like saying the person who is helped up has good sportsmanship.

Ok, it was a good story of sportsmanship. But I am all dude, so of course I say she could have just rubbed some dirt on it and hopped the bases. I used to hop all over when I tore my ACL. I tore mine in a rough touch football league and didn't know. Continued to play with a limp and went to work for rest of week. MRI confirmed I tore it and got the surgery months later ....

Summary: Girl hits the ball hard, but is not fast enough to get around the bases. Other team lets her score. This is no different than purposely dropping the ball to "let" her score. What a crock. If I was the teammates of those girls that helped her get around the bases, I be p$ssed.
@ShadowKingRPG
@ShadowKingRPG 8 жыл бұрын
+Bri C Yeah right? What a dumbass, clearly his/her brain isn't big enough to soak in the fact that Sara screwed up her knee when she turned to run to first base, "not fast enough" meaning physically can't

@fredact
@fredact 8 жыл бұрын
+TheVictoryHawk I know how home runs work. You have to touch the bases. She couldn't so it shouldn't count. No different than if she ran around and forgot to touch second. Would the other team have let her go back and touch it then?

I don't care how many times I've seen it, it still brings me to tears each time. I shared this video with everybody I know, and on Social Media. You should too. Those two young ladies who went beyond the team grudge and beyond what everyone would think, even though that by doing that, they LOST the game, just shows the integrity and humanity that everyone in this world should have. This message portrays that no matter what the consequence is, doing the right thing will always prevail. Good sportsmanship is the best thing that sports can ever teach us. Share this with everyone and anyone you can! Make a difference. Humanity still has hope.
