Ok, so things are getting weirder the further we travel. In this past year we have had some pretty crazy foods including Bat Soup, Turtle Intestines in blood as well as Sea Cucumber. Not to mention the Balot we eat at the end of this video. The crazy thing is that nothing was really ever that offensive. The sea cucumber probably took the cake in terms of least tasty, most nasty.

With out a doubt, hands down the best travel/sailing vlog on you tube. The one big mistake people make when traveling is not getting to know and share with the locals. You guys get it ,I love that you do and that you're able to share that with your viewers. Great job and thanks. Watching from the fl. Keys.

I agree, the few places I've been, the best times I had were spending time with the locals and just hanging out. The more in the cities doing "tourist" stuff the more I felt uncomfortable and bored. It's interesting, its assumed the reason to travel is to get to know a new place, but so many people stop at the ports or airports and don't venture out and ACTUAllY experience the area or country and its very sad.

Befriending locals to the point of being invited to eat with them is one of the best experiences you can have. I mean really, whats the point of traveling if you don't REALLY experience the culture as the locals do. Most westerners have no idea how good they have it especially when it comes to food (eg drive through, supermarket etc), and it's sad. Thanks for giving them real world perspective. Great video!

I lived in Singapore for a few years and was amazed how many "Westerners" only ate western food in asian countries, for me it was like whats the point of living in another country and ignoring the local culture. For me I tried every local dish just to find out what I liked, my fav's I have regularly. Thumbs up for your approach, too many turn their noses up and miss out.

It's amazing in one part of the world people would not think about eating somethings but in other parts of the world people think its a delicacy. I used to live and fish in Trinidad and we used to catch a fish named a Crappo. We just used to take it off our lines and throw them back. But in other parts of the world I found out that people ate them if I had known that I would have eaten them too. I think its all in the mind for most things, I love your videos your very open minded, your true adventurers

Agree!..uniqueness of food in parts of the planet (for foreigners) is a cultural thing for the locals and it is truly an " all in the mind" repulsion or acceptance for a foreigner by the way it smells, looks and taste...if they ever get to the tasting part.

As someone who has spent a lot of time in PI, I can tell you that just like you can find different hot dogs depending on location, you can find different balut. Also the pronunciation is different depending on which island you are located. Northern Luzon Balut ( pronounced.... bah-loot) can be a chicken or a duck egg. The time in the ground will also vary. Chicken eggs are usually much saltier. Make sure you chew your balut well as you can choke on the beak or feet. As an FYI, yes it is touristy, I highly recommend Baguio in the Philippines. Mountain area about 10-12 miles from the coast. Very pretty. Also cool if you need a break from the heat. Thanks for the vid again! Fair winds!

robert orzech 😆 it’s just the name, they’re not actually 4,000 years old. Here in Singapore they’re called century eggs, and yes the whites turn black. It’s kind of like pickled eggs as in they go through a curing process for 20 days or so. They taste pretty much the same, it’s the texture that’s really different. Slightly firm but jelly like, kind of like jello texture actually.

Hello Ben & Ashley, I worked with a lot of people who worked in the Philippine's, and none of them would admit to eating the infamous Balut egg, they always said the smell was just atrocious. One of my employees transferred to the Philippine's and raised a bunch of champion Cockfighting Roosters, which earned him some pretty good money. I believe Cockfighting is now a No-No there, but not sure. The people of the Philippine's live by a totally different code from us, in North America. I'm not Batty, for Bat Soup either, Luv Y'all.

You don't eat the hard white parts of the balut in some cases, the bitter part you tasted was what we call "bato" which is loosely translated to "stone" which basically means it's the "hard part" of the balut. Most of the really tough complaints of balut come from the hard white part, but all in all I actually believe it should be tasty for people when they get over the fact that it's a duck embryo. And sometimes people, like me haha, leave some of the soup and add in salt and vinegar before drinking the last soupy part. The best tasting parts are the soup, yellow part, and the duck itself. Thanks for this video, made me want to eat some balut now so I'll have to go haha!
