Stayed on Mafia in 2018 for diving. Loved it!! The south beach is beautiful and in the north you can encounter whale sharks. You should have stayed a night or two.

Doesn't it appear to you to actually _stay_ for a day or two in those exotic destinations you visit? You travel through Africa like a proverbial piece of luggage.

If the check-in agent wasn't wondering why you were turning around and heading straight back to Dar, then I was! I don't know how you can go to the time and expense of going to these out of the way places and then not allow any time for at least a quick look around! I know you love to fly, but not having so much as an overnight stay would leave me feeling so unfulfilled. But hey, we're all different I suppose. 🤷‍♂️🙂

To everyone whining about the taxi ripoff: he’s a solo traveler in a foreign country. Fighting over the fare could take a bad turn, and he has no backup. For safety purposes, it’s better to just let the jerks get the money. You can make more money. You can’t make more life.

Nice! You should do the cross the pacific on a 737 flight. It’s the tiny island hopper flight from Hawaii to Asia. It used to end up in Hong Kong but I think it now ends up in Japan. The other one that you can’t do right now because of covid is Wamena Indonesia. If you message me I’ll tell you more about it.

Great videos of aircraft and airports, such a pity that on visiting a fantastic island such as Mafia, you spend your whole time at the airport building. Surely it would be more fun staying at an island lodge location on the beach overnight than waking up each morning in the Hyatt Regency in Dar es Salaam?

Best to negotiate fare before getting in taxi. Have done this around Africa and in Eastern Europe. Meter is not used. Agree with other comments that you are making it harder for other travellers to get a reasonable fare.

Leave alone the airport standard,The Mafia island is regarded as the best unpolluted beach in Tanzania. Best for snorkeling and sea mammals view

Mafia airport reminds me of Dumaguete Airport in the Philippines. In and out in about 20 seconds. You can see any luggage travelling along the belt from outside too.

Probably, they're wondering why the Mzungu went to Mafia....and back. Oh well, you haven't lived until you've taken Air Tanzania's ATR42 Flight from Dar to Shinyanga, where I was working, a gravel strip, when the over-confident pilot ignored the windsock, and landed downwind. As we passed the end of the gravel runway....and went off the end....i braced myself against the bulkhead. The male flight attendant said that I should sit normally, and I pointed out to him that we had just gone off the end of the runway......he got very pale. lol

For once I can actually say I've visited this country!
