Saskatchewan may not offer the best attractions or opportunities compared to other Canadian provinces, but it does offer a much more peaceful and budget friendly way of life. If you can tolerate the very cold winters and are able to secure a local/remote job, you might find that this is one of the best places to live when Canada is currently going through a cost of living crisis. Melfort is a small city of 6,000 people in the northeast of Saskatchewan. It offers many different amenities like shopping, restaurants, swimming pool, skating rink, golf course and a lovely park. The job market is not as vast as larger centers, but it does have quite a few local industries and many opportunities for working in agriculture. Would you live in the small city of Melfort, SK?

Being from Québec I must admit that living in Sk for 3 years (CFB Moose Jaw) was a bit a cultural shock. I must also say that the people were very welcoming, family oriented with traditional values, honest. And what an amazing sky! 😍

I would happily live in a city like Melfort. It’s a shame that malls in general are failing. I can’t really understand why since our cold climate makes the idea of going to a mall much more desirable than running through the cold and snowy winters for one’s shopping needs.

One thing I think killed the mall , most of what the mall stores sell is not any necessity. For your daily needs you can go to Canadian tire , no frills , co-op , Peavey mart , marks work warehouse or if absolutely needed 😢 Walmart I cannot remember the last time I was in the local mall , it's been years . And the only business I can think of that I would use is "the source"

Hi Alina! I recall driving through Melfort only once, while I was a grad student at the University of Saskatchewan decades ago. When driving north from Saskatoon to Waskesiu Lake, Montreal Lake and/or La Ronge, we would typically drive through or stop in Prince Albert (or PA) for gas and/or eats. It's nice to experience Melfort again, with you and your dad!

As someone who currently lives in Melfort, and have for almost 20 years, it’s an amazing place to raise our young children, plenty of amenities, fantastic public facilities, everything is within walking distance or a 2-3min drive, only 1.5hours from an international airport YXE. I’ve lived in major US cities and you couldn’t pay me enough to move away from the quality of life my family is able to have in a place like this. Thanks for featuring our little city. ❤

I graduated in 2002 so I was a bit older then you. Your video just happened to pop up in my suggested viewing list. Melfort mall has gotten a lot smaller since you were visiting as well. Coop moved to the new grocery store and Fields has been packing things up and moving inventory to the Nipawin store. Backstage is set to move out next week. Not much left now. I fully expect it will get torn down within the next couple years.

I lived in Wellington On on the lake 1700 people - loved it. so I do like small towns near water, with lots of trees. I have driven thru SK many times and do love the wheat blowing on a sunny day and the beautiful sunsets.
