I’m from Liverpool and would rather play for Mexico than England

I’m born in and raised in the US. However, like many of my friends of similar background, we would chose to play for Mexico. Why? It has nothing to do with disliking the US. In fact, i support both equally. We grew up watching Mexico with our families, we speak Spanish at home, and some of my most fond soccer memories are celebrating Mexico’s wins. It runs much deeper than being an American. Being Mexican culturally is deep within.

As a Mexican-American, I always dreamt of playing for Mexico as a kid.

I have mexican parents but have lived my entire life in the US (so I go for both teams). If I were in Jonathan Gonzalez's position, I would also want to play for Mexico. Why? Mexico has more history and passion for the beautiful game. I care little for MLS (bring a club to SD and ill care more), I can only name a few memorable former USMNT players (Donavan, Howard, ??), and overall the USMNT fanbase isnt as passionate as other nations. Meanwhile, Liga MX has an interesting depth of history (and is growing internationally, European players are now going to Mexico to WIN, not RETIRE), There are MANY Mexican futbol legends (Blanco,Luis hernandez, Campos, Sanchez, Marquez, etc.), and Mexico has some of the most passionate fans in the world (for better or worse).

Mexico cause I would like to play in the world cup

I'd play for Mexico. Simply because I grew up supporting them, and culturally I'm more Mexican than American. Also I don't want to play for a country that doesn't take the sport serious and that most of the people in that country disrespect it.

I’m Mexican-American, I’ve grown up watching and supporting Mexico/Chivas, I even went to the Estadio Azteca to watch and see Giovanni’s amazing goal against the US, but...I would play for the USMNT. There’s just so much potential for the US to grow and excel in the future. I’m even living in Mexico City, whenever I tell my family that I would rather play for the US, I’m even more of an outcast in the family...😂😂😂

Mexico, USA can’t even make it to the World Cup

as an US citizen i would change my passport for a Mexican one to play for Mexico and call Americans Gringos

I was born and raised in Kansas City, have an American mom and a Mexican dad, and yet while I do love US soccer, I always thought that I would choose Mexico. I think with a lot of people in my position its about the culture surrounding the two countries, Mexico has always been more passionate about football and I personally think their style of play is better. For the most part, soccer is the only sport in Mexico, so when you play for El Tri, you're a hundred times more famous than as a USMNT player. It's not just about who is in the world cup this year, its about years of culture building and soccer just not being a priority in the States yet.

It actually was a very sensible decision, Marquez and Guardado are retiring soon and Mexico is short in the CDM position. USA is in rebuild mode but in Mexico they are approaching a golden generation with Chucky, Corona, Montes, Gutierrez, etc.

Is there actually only one full time US scout? If so that is unbelievable

I think he choose Mexico because he got a chance to play for a 1st div team and never got chance to play for an MLS team. I would of done the same if a Liga MX team gave me a chance and MLS team never did

Born and Raised in the US but since childhood I grew up watching Mexico and hating the US and Landon Donovan since they were our rivals. It’s weird i know but yes I’m American but when it comes to soccer I’m Mexican. I completely understand Johnathan, I would’ve made the same choice.

Finally someone actually addresses on of the biggest problems with the US youth Academy system which is that not everyone can pay all those dues and players with a lower family income aren’t getting an equal shot at going pro

We don’t deserve players like him, our country doesn’t care enough about Football enough to deserve passionate players like him, this won’t matter anyways because Americans don’t care enough about football for anyone to even know about this story in the first place.
