From what I’ve heard, this is all him. It’s very tribal to me. With the clapping, snapping fingers, layers of voice. Yea, it’s all him. I’ve heard also that this was filmed at his home and property.

I really enjoy Avi's solo music that he does now. His voice really suits more the folk style. He was never really allowed to shine when he was with Pentatonix. And their music does not really suit his style. He is now doing the music he loves & it shows. He writes a lot of his own music. I really like his "Song For The Thankful".

This is my favorite Avi Kaplan solo!

I'm so glad you finally got to Avi's music! This was his first release after leaving PTX. Avi was declaring his "change" and getting his fire back for creating music. This was filmed at his cabin outside of Nashville in the middle of the forest. All the parts of this song are Avi, including the background vocals and bass. The only instrumentation is the tambourine and organ at the bridge. As far as suggestions, for something upbeat When I'm a Fool live at Sunset sound or for soothing peaceful Otherside. Cheers!

This was the first song that Avi released after he took a year out after leaving PTX. He'd had a battle with his mental health and this was his fight back song. The vocals are all him - he layers his own voice in a lot of his songs. Avi is in a much better place mentally now - hence the 'Floating on a Dream' LP. That's not his latest project btw - 4 of the songs from that album were reissued in the 'Live From Sunset Sound' EP. I strongly recommend 'When I'm a Fool' from that live album (the studio version is great but the live version is a stomping romp!) Avi is currently working on new music and he has hinted that he might be moving towards a more blues/rock sound. I can't wait! Great reaction - I'm glad you enjoyed this.

I think I would call it more driven than dark, but that primal feeling is strong. Whatever you call it, it definitely calls to me. Love it.

Dark is there, yes. This is basically him scratching and clawing his way out of personal darkness - holding through the night. I love Avi, and it is great to see you getting to him on KZfaq. "I'm Only Getting Started" is on the Floating on a Dream album, so you have heard one of his most recent songs. For yet another side of Avi, might I recommend "Quarter Past Four" from his Sage and Stone EP (as Avriel and the Sequoias, written and recorded at the tail end of his tenure with PTX). Most of Avi's stuff falls into the Folk/Americana genre, but he is currently working on more music and has hinted that it might have more of a rock/blues influence. Also, I think you would appreciate his cover of his own song "All is Well" for 7 Layers sessions. Just the man, his guitar, that voice, and amazing acoustics at a church in the Netherlands.

Ok so you think you have heard All is Well 😉......well there are 3 versions of this song each one spectacular in it's own right. Avi likes to "cover" his own music so you will want to check out ALL versions of songs he has done. Anything the man has done is amazing you cannot go wrong no matter what you decide to listen to. Enjoy the ride I am definitely here for it!

I find this song very defiant. He’s feeling down, but he’s not about to stay down. It is very powerful. Avi was exhausted when he left Pentatonix and a lot of the older solo songs are kind of dark. In It Knows Me it sounds like he’s has been strugling with some inner demons and regrets something. Anyway, it seems he’s in a better place now. I’m interested in seeing the more rock Avi.

“Who is this Avi?” you ask. It’s the unleashed Avi. When it comes to genre, I like to call his unique style of music Avi-cana. I second all the suggestions for more music and am particurlarly fond of his masterpiece “Otherside”, “When I’m a fool” from the EP “Avi Kaplan live at Sunset Sound”, and “First place I go”. Subbed for more reactions to the wonder that is Avi Kaplan, he never disappoints.

Avi’s other songs are more folk music, which may not be everybody’s thing. This one is an ANTHEM. That heavy beat and the message just hits you square in the gut, no matter what kind of music you like. The fierceness of his voice gives you goosebumps every time. That growl burns you even if you barely hear it. This is iconic. That’s why it has so many views. Avi’s other work is brilliant, but this one is a masterpiece. Great reaction!

Just as an addition to what everyone has said, most of Avi's stuff does not sound like a village warrior song 😊 To me I'd classify most of his music as folk-y I think?

I always associate this song with someone grappling to get out of depression. Maybe i read it that way because it inspires me to keep fighting mine. But i think it can mean many things to many people.
