Is this a true bonnet ? A hybrid ? or just a masquerader ? Mind you, a bonnet macaque shouldn't be found in Hong Kong !

Well, its not that anyone actually "allowed" him to get that way. They are wild macaques and there is no one who cares for them or anything. Many macaques in those troops at Angkor Wats have been morbidly obese for many, many years (well before there was any such thing as VOs there recording them) due to the thousands of tourists who visit on a weekly basis. There are so many vendors that park and set up there just to sell food to the visitors to give to the monkeys and they have been fed a lot of junk by the tourists for a long time!

@@PrimateProductions Sweet Pea is personally sought out by many people. The VO's and "fans" stalk him. They bring him birthday cakes, full bunches of bananas, dragonfruit, milk..you name it. She is definitely not a Bonnet macaque, her tail is shorter and look at those big feet. 😂 Seriously, it appears as though she has some kind of skin issues or like others have mentioned she has an OCD, she is pulling at her skin & hair. Also, a bonnet has something of a part in the middle of their head along with their receding hairline and this macaque doesn’t. She’s a rhesus. ☺️

Perhaps it's from an abandoned pet release, from a few years back? The Monkey Savanah (YT channel) group/hybrid troop is made up of long tails and pig tailed varieties, but once accepted into the small troop, they seem to mostly get along. (It is my firm belief that if one adopts an orphan monkey, it should be a life time commitment, or like the Vervant monkey foundation in Africa, the orphan should be added to an accepting troop, and therefore have the education and skills it will need for survival in the wild).

Rhesus has a long history of aggression with Bonnet Macaques, they actually drove them out from many parts natural habitat (Southern India). Rhesus can have members with rare looks. It either falls or she pulls it out. It made me take another look back also lol The tail usually tellss tee tale. When hybrids are born they have a medium tail. There are always variations to each species on the face and head as well. Pig tails have short thick tails and distinctive head shapes. Most will show a milder form from of hair on the face. The newest additions look almost exactly alike except subtleties are there.

How that monkey ended up in Hong Kong is definitely a head scratcher! They have some very strong physical features that will take many generations to breed out. Rhesus macaques are softer, more rounded and much more beautiful. The Toque monkey isn't built for comfort she's built for speed and they fight to hold their ground!! The worst part about them is they're babies are so ugly you can't help but cringe just a little the first time you see them!! The poor little ugly things do grow on you though.

She must’ve been an abandoned pet. She kind of looks like a mix of bonnet and Rhesus but in realityZ it looks like she was shaved by a human! Is it possible she is a rhesus who was a pet who was shaved? I’ve seen on other monkey channels some of the owners shave their monkeys to make them appear more human like. ThAts what it looks like to me. That or she’s suffering from alopecia and her hair started falling out in a very strange pattern. I’m going to go with she was shaved. If you look at her color pattern she is very rhesus like with the more golden hair at the bottom. Her face however is definitely more Bonnet looking but that may just be appearing that way because she is shaved. I just don’t see it being anything other than she was shaved at some point and dumped as a pet. The only thing throwing me off is that you say she’s been like that for a while. Why isn’t her hair growing back?? I need to rewatch this!
@frogspit70303 жыл бұрын
Her tail is like a Rhesus though, she is missing hair for sure, either alopecia, as you suggest or she has been pulling it out for some reason. You see her picking at her chin quite a bit. If she has been accepted by this troop she must have been around long enough for the shaved hair to grow back in so I don't think she is a dumped pet but I'm just guessing .

@quietinspirationcreations34483 жыл бұрын
IMO she is a Rhesus Macaque that has either lost or pulled out her hair, resulting in an appearance similar to a Bonnet Macaque. My reasons for believing this... 1. She has a short tail. 2. She is similar in size to the Rhesus that was grooming her, a female Bonnet Macaque would be a fair bit smaller than a Rhesus (about 3lbs and 10cm). 3. Although her hairline is similar to a Bonnet Macaque, she does not have the distinct part down the centre and her head hair is not darker than her body hair. I don't know if it's possible for her to be a 'hybrid' or mixed species, possibly the offspring of an ex pet that had been abandoned on Monkey Hill, but I think she is most likely a Rhesus, unique in appearance!
