Elvis recorded Always on My Mind on March 29, 1972 & released on October 31, 1972. Willie recorded & released this song in 1982. I was blessed to have gone to 2 of Elvis concerts in 1974 & 1975. Elvis’ voice was better live that recorded. He was awesome! ❤❤

If I remember correctly, Elvis recorded this at the same time he was getting divorced from Priscilla. He also recorded Separate Ways (another song you should hear) at the same time. Separate Ways was written by Elvis' high school friend and later body guard Red West.

This song was covered by many artists, notably recorded and released by Brenda Lee in 1972, Elvis in 1972 (more a commercial success than Lee), and 10 years later, the Grammy Winner Version by Willie Nelson. The Pet Shop Boys recorded it in 1987.

Elvis version of this song just gets to me every time. I feel like you can hear the sadness the emotion in his voice of a man who’s lost the woman he loves to his own neglect of her and that he truly regrets it and wishes he could go back but knows he can’t so he tells her he’s sorry and lists the things he should have did. Some people say that he sang this because of his divorce with Priscilla. I don’t know if that’s true or not but he sure sings his heart out on this one, it seems like he’s digging down deep and it’s personal. Whether it is or not it’s a warning song for every person in a relationship to stop and look at their relationship right now and see if there’s anything they should be doing or saying to show their spouse that they love them, appreciate them and that they mean everything to them. This is a tear jerker of a song when I stop and think about my own marriage of 32 years. You can’t help but hear this song and immediately think of the last fight you just had with your spouse and think that was so trivial and why did I get so upset over that and I need to go and apologize even if the fight is long over and forgotten already. It’s that kind of song and Elvis does this song better than anyone else in my opinion. The arrangement is nice, his voice is always great, his gospel quartet I believe The Jordanaires backing him up are amazing and just the emotion he puts into it an awesome song! Pass me the Kleenex!❤

Beaulieu knew what she was getting into when she first met Elvis at age 14. After all, Elvis had a longtime girlfriend back home in the US, Anita Wood (1957-1962), yet spent time with several German frauleins in spite of that. Little "innocent" Beaulieu did not mind being another girl he cheated on his girlfriend with. Elvis returned to the US on March 1, 1960, while Beaulieu and her family remained in Germany. There she terrorized her mother and stepfather because she had only recently found out he was not her biological father. She went on a hunger strike, skipped school, and pretty much played Elvis and Mr. and Mrs. Beaulieu against each other. She told untruths about her home situation begging Elvis to save her by letting her come over and she made family life in Germany for her parents and half-siblings hell. It was little “innocent” Beaulieu who pursued Elvis, sending him risqué photos of herself (condoned/facilitated by her parents!). In a 1973 interview with Ladies Home Journal, Beaulieu is quoted saying that her mother, Ann Iversen, said that knowing Elvis was “an opportunity of a lifetime”. Her mother and stepfather played a questionable role in the development of Beaulieu's long-distance "affair" with Elvis that reeks of ulterior motives. If they'd really been worried or incensed and believed that all the initiative came from Presley, they could have stopped it right then and there. Yet, they didn't; they played along. They first allowed her to visit Elvis in the US when she was 16. More than a year passed until her next visit at 17. Beaulieu did not move to Memphis until she was close to 18 when she moved in with Elvis' father Vernon and stepmother Dee. It is total nonsense that many claim that she "lived with Elvis since she was 14". BEAULIEU AND ELVIS WEREN'T EVEN ON THE SAME CONTINENT FOR THE BETTER PART OF 3 YEARS. During the years before their marriage, Elvis was away from Memphis a lot, making 3 movies a year in Hollywood or locations such as Hawaii. And during all these years he was also having multiple affairs with co-stars. Beaulieu knew this and could have left then, since they were not married yet, but of course, she stayed because the goal was to become Mrs. Presley. According to Beaulieu, Elvis had promised to marry her when she was 21. But as her birthday had come and gone and her 22nd birthday was approaching and Elvis still had not kept his word, Beaulieu, her parents, and the colonel (Tom Parker) visited Elvis on a movie set. The most logical thing that happened is that a threat was made that they would go public about Elvis "dating" a minor while in his twenties if he would not keep his promise to marry her. After all: Jerry Lee Lewis had gone through a scandal that people might be reminded of if the Beaulieus had gone public: Jerry Lee Lewis had married his 13-year-old cousin! After the visit of the Beaulieus and Parker to the movie set, everything escalated and a quick wedding ceremony was arranged on May 1, 1967 (23 days before Beaulieu's 22nd birthday) in Las Vegas. The whole ceremony took just 8 minutes and afterward, followed by a press conference (listen to what the Memphis mafia guys say about them getting married at the 24:33 mark of kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pp6Sn7KisJ-UgIE.html). You can hear what Elvis told about the wedding in the recording of the last phone conversation Red West had with him before he died "That wedding thing, that wedding thing. It was in there over and done with so quick. I didn't realize I was married." (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pp6Sn7KisJ-UgIE.html). Beaulieu soon became pregnant, but soon Elvis already wanted to divorce her. 9 months after the wedding, daughter Lisa Marie was born. Beaulieu and Elvis effectively lived their lives apart as early as 6 weeks after Lisa was born when Beaulieu began an affair with her dance instructor. During the taping of the 1968 Singer Special (later redubbed the 1968 Comeback Special) Elvis had an affair with Susan Henning, while Beaulieu attended some of the tapings with her lover (the dance instructor). By 1969, after Elvis had finished his movie contracts and had begun not only his residency at The International Hotel in Las Vegas, but also his touring around the USA, he was away from Memphis an average of 150 - 200 days a year. Elvis bought a new mansion for his family, at 144 Monovale Drive in Holmby Hills/California which became Beaulieu's residence while Elvis - in between tours - preferred to stay at his Hillcrest Rd, Beverly Hills house. Effectively their marriage was over in 1969 and they increasingly lived separate lives. They did try to get back closer together in 1970, for the sake of Lisa Marie, but that failed. Christmas 1970 was all but peaceful and festive and ended with Elvis angrily leaving Graceland for several days. By then, Beaulieu had already started taking karate lessons at Ed Parker's karate studio and subsequently met Mike Stone, whom she'd first seen during a karate tournament in 1968, and soon began an affair with him. By late 1971, Beaulieu and Stone (who had left his wife, pregnant with their second child) shared an apartment together in Belmont Shore and gossip rags were beginning to pick up on the break-up between Beaulieu and Elvis. The separation really was effective as of shortly before Elvis' 37th birthday, January 8, 1972. Elvis was livid and he moved on: started dating Linda Thompson in the summer of 1972. In August of 1972 a property settlement agreement was filed and he filed for divorce ON HIS 38TH BIRTHDAY, Jan. 8, 1973. The divorce was finalized on Oct. 9, 1973, FIFTY YEARS AGO THIS YEAR. Elvis had his attorneys add a special clause to their divorce decree stating she was not to use the name Presley for a career. In interviews between the divorce and Elvis' death, Beaulieu described him pretty much as a has-been loser, absent/bad father and husband and adamantly stated she wanted to be known as Priscilla Beaulieu, to be her own person and that she was not Elvis Presley's property. In a 1973 interview with Ladies Home Journal she literally stated that there was "no possibility of a reconciliation with Elvis". After his death she claimed that they had agreed to get back together when he was 50 and she was 40 and that he was the love of her life. She also started claiming that she and Elvis remained friends until his death. That was another lie; just listen to what his cousin Billy Smith tells about that, or what his dad, Vernon, wrote about that in a letter that has been made public. Elvis did not mention this opportunist in his will AT ALL. Not as his ex-spouse, not as the mother/guardian of his only child Lisa Marie and certainly not by name. After the divorce, and after Mike Stone, Beaulieu had (live-in) relationships with Mike Edwards, Robert Kardashian, Terry O'Neill, Elie Ezerzer and Kirk Kerkorian. In 1984 she met Marco Garibaldi with whom she had a relationship for 21 years. They separated in 2006. Together they had a son, Navarone, in 1987. She never married Garibaldi, although she had a much longer relationship with him than she'd had with Elvis. It is extremely unfortunate that people believe all the fantasy tales Beaulieu tells. They gloss over the tons of inconsistencies that have arisen as time moved on and Beaulieu started changing her narrative, often contradicting supposed facts she told earlier. She's as glib as a used car salesperson because she can spin yarns like nobody, making those gullible people even believe her excuses for those contradictions. If you really believe Beaulieu and her family would have acted the same way and would have been equally tolerant of his behavior (extramarital affairs etc) if Elvis had remained a truck driver learning to be an electrician, you are beyond naive. The Beaulieus had dollar signs in their eyes when they pimped out their rebellious (step)daughter.

Amber, the word you were looking for is vibrato. 😊 The song Always On My Mind is such a classic and has crossed many genres. The song was initially recorded by Brenda Lee but it was first released as a record by Gwen McRae in 1972. Later that same year, Elvis released this version, and it hit the US country charts and the UK top 10. It wasn’t until 10 years later that Willie Nelson released his famous version, which I believe is the most iconic. But the Pet Shop Boys also issued their own version of it in 1987 which is really worth a listen if you haven’t heard it already.

I love both Willie Nelson and Elvis' versions of this song!! It's so touching to see he and Priscilla and Lisa Marie (RIP) in happier times! Tom Jones was in one of those video clips (they were good friend). The Pet Shop Boys did a pretty good version of this song in the eighties too. 💖💖

This is one of my favourite Elvis songs. There is a Live version, which is Elvis either rehearsing it or recording it ….. if you possibly can, it’s always best to go with either Live Concert performance or Rehearsal, which are always very good & usually lots of fun, as you get to see Elvis as a person, rather than Elvis as a stage persona …. The two are always different. For example, Elvis off-stage had a rather shy, introvert personality, while on-stage he was the total opposite, & that was his stage persona. He always got very nervous before his concerts, & would sing gospel with his father & backup singers, or his bodyguards & friends would joke around with him, to help keep him calm. But the moment he went on stage, the extrovert persona emerged & he always looked so confident & so comfortable on that stage. He found interviews horrific to do, because of his shyness, but he handled them very well, deflecting questions he knew it would be better not to answer, & he was always so polite & respectful of the media, who loved him. You might enjoy doing some Reactions to his interviews & rehearsals, & certain documentaries, such as Elvis and The Black Community Part One: The Echo Will Never Die …. A number of reactors have done that, & it is a way for reactors to find out how Elvis began his career, because Elvis broke down racial barriers in the South, which practised strict segregation, & he took Black music to White audiences by creating a fusion of Rhythm & Blues, Black Gospel, & Country (also known back then as Rockabilly). Elvis, as a 19 year old teenager, had a very rough go of it, with older White people publicly hating him, burning & hanging effigies of him, White radio stations refusing to play his records. It truly was the stuff nightmares are made of, & aimed at a teenager who just wanted to enjoy music. Elvis was the first White singer to dance about on stage, while playing guitar & singing. All other White singers stood still. People were outraged by that, but young people loved it, & in refusing to change the way he did things, Elvis opened up a new freedom of expression for all future singers, but he suffered for it.

Brenda Lee was the first to record the song, but Gwen McCrae released it first (as "You Were Always On My Mind") in March 1972. Brenda's "Always On My Mind" was released in June, and then Elvis in October. This story reminds me of the song "How Do I Live" uproar with LeAnn Rimes and Trisha Yearwood. The song was part of the "Con Air" movie soundtrack. LeAnn version was turned down, Trisha's was selected and released in May 23, 1997. LeAnn's label released it on the same day.

Awesome reaction i will love and miss my friend Elvis always. We met 10 years before his death i have to make it plain because some people doubt the time frame i really don't care what anyone thinks keyboard warrior's are just jealous we were just friends we both needed a friend and we were that for each other. His death knocked the wind out of me and the funeral broke my heart and soul. People ask me to post memories of my friend some love them and some comment hurtful and hateful things. So i will just keep them all to myself they are tucked safe in my heart forever. If you need to post hateful or nasty things save it because i do not care. love to you and your family from the one and only Memphis Tn.

As you watch the footage of family pictures unfold in the video, there is a melancholy feeling reminding us of the loss of his daughter, Lisa Marie, from earlier this year. Yet, in that loss, something beautiful was left behind. Memories. Elvis sings the song MEMORIES on his 68 Comeback Special after sitting in the round with his fans. It is a poignant gift from the past. Secondly, Lisa Marie cut a record of her singing with her father, the way Natalie Cole did with her father, Nat Cole, to honor his life. "I LOVE YOU, BECAUSE." is the song she chose to honor him and reveal the broken heart that still misses her daddy. A bond that is both profound and true. She gives him the lead to remind us how great a singer is before joining him on the gentle hallmark to express how much she still misses him. They finish the song strong, united, and together, which is where they are now. The tribute is honest and true. Both were troubled souls in their time here on this earth. Elvis, as we all know, was never quite the same after losing his mother, Gladys. Lisa Marie was never able to come to terms with the enormous legacy of being the only child of the legendary performer and his worldwide audience. May they both rest in peace. LOVE ME, RECONSIDER BABY, & (YOU'RE SO SQUARE) BABY, I DON'T CARE should give us some Elvis to remember. Enjoy

Both versions are great. It's my understanding that Elvis and Priscilla were breaking up or had broken up and that made the song so much more emotional because he was actually going through the breakup at the time he recorded this. I also heard that Elvis told her that he would always love her after the breakup. Not certain if all that's true though. My mother was a huge Elvis fan and that's where I heard a lot about him before she passed. She sure loved "her Elvis". God bless!

The sentiment behind this song is one that I believe everyone who's ever been in a relationship of trust and love for a significant other has felt at least on some level no matter how inconsequential or perhaps profound. Willie won a Grammy for his release but Elvis put his Presley spin on it and although I love both releases I see Willie's as more of a smokey bar room rendition and Elvis's production as something more of a music hall production..... great reaction and as a side note the Pet Shop Boys actually had a version they released and charted with as well.

Thank you for having a Cover Song Day & and thanks to all who suggested it. I have playlists devoted to my favorite covers. If I hear a song & love it, especially the lyrics - I will search for other artists particularly in other music genres who covered it. Many times it is an new interpretation. An example is the beautiful TLC song "Waterfalls" covered by the equally great Bette Midler. Bette simgs the song from the mother's point of view & it is heartbreaking.

Guys...if ya have not already, ya gotta watch his performance of "Love Me Tender" (1970 Live performance). He kisses over 50 female fans in less than 5 minutes. They used to come to the edge of the stage in Vegas to receive some sugar by the King. This time he jumps into the audience for a little lovin. Truly wild to watch. In all my 57 years I have never seen anything like this done by any artist at any time, anywhere. Only in Vegas and only by Elvis in 1970.

Elvis Presley recorded "Always on My Mind" in March of 1972, just a few weeks after his official separation from his wife Priscilla. The cover was released on the B-side of the "Separate Ways" single -- and was a hit. Elvis' "Always on My mind" reached number 16 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart and is still considered one of the King's standouts from the 1970s.
