@@ChrisLawton66You see, it's little more complicated, offcourse in the real life i would want to be the far as i can from Tony and others there, but i know it's just a tv-show, there are no victims of crimes, they're not the real characters so we can root for Tony , because there are no consequences in enjoying the misdeeds of Soprano family. And The Sopranos is more the study of people's characters, today's decaying society, it asks many provocatice questions like can people change for real, study of greed, addictions, shallowness, materialism ....

Always found the cleaver stuff really fascinating. It’s like he’s trying to make it for the same reason Tony’s going to therapy - but rather than it being a private place to be himself it’s a very public display of his true character.
@rocksparadox
@rocksparadox 4 ай бұрын
That is very astute, the public and the private confrontation with behaviour caused by issues and guilt or lack thereof! The fundamental question is: will it be effective in making Tony as good a leader as Carmine senior? Even more so but until he is, it will be hard to verify until it manifests itself as the degenerate gambling old man Soprano warned him about !

Carmella really got into Tony's head, she told him his friends aren't real knowing he was depressed and this led him to focus on Chrissy over other guys. She also pointed out Tony was the boss in the movie, which made him take everything else too personally. And something more speculatory, Carmella's prying into Adriana probably made him think Chris himself was a liability since someone could have used that to make him crack, especially when he brought it up to Tony a couple times.

It was revenge for Billy Batts, and a lot of other things. And there was nothing that we could do about it. Batts was a made man and Cossette wasn't. And we had to sit still and take it. It was among the Italians. It was real grease ball shit. They even sat on Cossette’s face so Adriana couldn't give her an open coffin at the funeral.

What the hell are you even talking about? You’re mixing up movies and saying things that don’t even make sense. The Sopranos has nothing to do with Goodfellows. In fact, it has nothing to do with revenge at all, it’s about a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist. Michael Knight; a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless. In a world of criminals who operate above the law-the Knight Rider. In other words, real greaseball shit.

I have a lifelong weight problem so I sympathize with Chrissy's alcoholism and how everyone treated him. Tony and the crooks stage an intervention and chew him out for all he has done wrong as an alcoholic, but then in any social event where he refuses to drink, they treat him like garbage if he refuses to drink, but then if he tries to take one drink just to be sociable they're aghast at that too. I had the same problem. People would get after me to curb my eating and I appreciated that they cared, but then I'd go to family or friend events and the same people that chewed me out for overeating would be pissed off if I didn't eat. And I'd be like oh that's ok no thanks I'm on a diet and they'd be no no, you diet tomorrow, today's a special occasion and they'd shove all kinds of burgers and cake and sugar and treats at me and Id try everything. I'd refuse and they'd be pissed. I'd take it and just take a polite bite or two and they'd be pissed. And then just to show I can't win, I'd eat it and they'd be like I can't believe you ate (all that shit I forced on you) because you - don't you know you have a weight problem you moron?! So really, if you have an addiction, it's almost like you have to uproot your life completely and move ten states away to get away from everyone you know because while they do care and they do want you to quit your addiction, they also got used to you being a certain way and will blow a fuse, not being able to comprehend it if you change.

The editing on this is *chefs kiss*. Please make more. I study organizational behavior and going through the Sopranos one of the biggest highlights for me is the dynamic of Chris. What would he have done if he never saw that man at the gas station having a hard time with his family. Would he have made the same decision to go to Tony out of loyalty? Or would his self interest drive him to take Adriana and go? For me- I think he still would have told Tony. A video about this would be awesome.

To play devil’s advocate here, Chrissy did have a couple positive qualities as well. As is clear from the series, he was a pretty good earner. Not the best, but he definitely wasn’t a broke either. Also, he was no coward; he didn’t hide under a chair during gunfights, etc. He had balls and maybe had the best aim in the family.

Most of all he was loyal. He didn't go to a shrink to unload all the adjacent secrets of the life like Tony did. He didn't snitch like Bumpensiero. He didn't kill old ladies like Paulie. He didn't womanize like all of the others, minus Bobby. He didn't kill whooaahs like Ralph. He earned, respected the chain of command, and deserved a better boss. Tony would've never have been Capo let alone a Don 🤣 He would've been killed a million times over throughout the series for the crap he pulled.

@Matthew Barry sorry but Chris is a fucking scumbag who only cares about how he’s perceived. He not only Beat her up while recovering from the accident, he doesn’t even apologize to her when he found out the truth, he says “now I look like Johnny jerk off.” All he cared about was himself and learned nothing about treating the only person who ever loved with any proper respect.
@masterzombie161
@masterzombie161 Жыл бұрын
@Matthew Barry it isn’t deflecting because everyone including Tony knew it was wrong for him to hit on her. However the issue is that despite knowing it wasn’t real, and the damage it has done, Chris made it worse by putting it in the movie thinking it’s gonna help the movie look cool. You seem to want to make it so Chris was in the right putting it the movie to spite Tony, while yes that is true (also considering Tony admitted to Melfi about wanting to bang her), but it also Stains Adriana’s life again. He again throws someone who he claimed to love under the bus again to either spite someone or make himself look good. So obviously Tony is a real piece of shit for what he’s done, Chris is just as much of a bastard. They both done unforgivable things that destroyed them in the end.

Great analysis! .... for those interested and wondering about the real relationship Christopher isnt Tony's nephew. Christopher's mother was a Blundetto, her brother was Albert Blundetto. Albert Blundetto was married to Livia Sopranos(nee' Pollio) sister. Their son was Tony "Animal" Blundetto. Technically they are not blood related, as Tony is not a descendant of a Blundetto, its just that Tony had an Aunt who was married to Christopher's uncle

Excellent analysis and editing of Christopher’s storyline . In the episode Stage 5, in which he premiered his movie Cleaver, has one of the most intense ending scenes of the series. As Chris’s baby was just christened with Tony as The Godfather hug each other and the camera shows their faces filled with ambivalent love and hate plus Evidently Chicken Town in the background. A bit of trivia you probably know is that the legendary Lauren Bacall insisted they let her curse in Luxury Lounge if she was going to appear.
@WowLynchWow

I actually did not know that about Lauren Bacall. That further enhances the scene in my eyes now. And yes, I love the way that Stage 5 episode ends, when it goes from Phil complaining about his legacy "Leotardo", and then it cuts to that Christening.

@@WowLynchWow sorry for the late reply, but I ‘lost it’ for a while. Yes, Phil sitting at the bar staring at the picture of his dead brother and going on and on about ‘that animal Tony Blundetto killed Billy in cold blood and I did nothing blah blah blah. No more Butchy, no more, cut to christening scene. One of the few things that truly bothered me in The Soprano’s was that after Ade was whacked in Long Term Parking all of a sudden a season and a half later he is with this ‘regular’ girl and they are all married and have a baby . I don’t remember courtship or anything like it Nitpicking or memory loss😝😝

Excellent video 👌 I watched the one with Tony and Aid in the crash etc not so long ago in my latest rewatching.I was thinking about the absurdity of the Don of New Jersey needing to drive out to Dover to get some coke for him and his niece not so long ago! It's still a great episode but The boss of a family knows only 1 Coke dealer who hangs around his club? Despite all his flaws Christopher will always be such an important character to me in the many icons of this Masterpiece. I relate to him in some ways but thankfully not all! Every time he makes a mistake I often give a Tony like pass to his Behavior. But many times I can't. He doesn't show any gratitude to Tony B for saving his life and relationship with Tony. He keeps resenting his cousin mainly for being reminded of how the 2 of them broke his balls when he was younger which happens among older cousins and siblings. Tony B also breaks Tony's balls with Christopher in on the jokes. Chrissy often had a victim complex His Screenplay?! 🎶 I got an image of Tony with an axe in the snow chasing Chrissy 👏🤣🤣 I absolutely adore Silvio's Passion for the original Halloween that spawned the other slasher movies which the Halloween sequels share more in common with than the original and I'm so glad you brought it up. Tony's pain at believing Christopher's subconscious despises him is one of my favourite Tony Moments for sure. Keep up the good work please 👍

Fantastic piece. Excellent review. I'm wondering when someone is going to make the "real" Cleaver flick? It's actually not a bad movie concept (horror + gangster genres colliding). Plus, upon release the film would have a built-in audience of Sopranos fans.

@@keevinsworldyayasworld7887 thats literally all of slasher films though. The gangster angle wouldn't be bad because Chris was a gangster so he'd know that kind of story. I'd assume it would be pretty average in quality for the slasher genre and okay to average for gangster film

The thing that I always wondered about in the Chrissy-Patsy confrontation: If it's not allowed to strike a made guy, how is it OK to pull a gun on one? Seems like Chrissy would have had to answer for that.

Funnily enough I don't think christopher intended to shame Tony through the movie. As was said the guy is dumb he almost certainly doesn't know about human psychology and unintentionally shared his resentment for Tony on screen. This is also a scenario where I'd see adriana coming in if she hadn't been an informant. She'd likely point it out and he'd remove it from the movie. Hell if she hadn't been an informant she likely wouldn't have almost banged Tony, Tony and Christopher's relationship wouldn't be as poor, Christopher would be a lot less of a junkie if one at all. BUT I still think he would've died in the end. Just in Bobby's place.

@@user-ig9vo1pq4d Bobby was killed because he was Tony's hair apparent. If aid didn't become an informant Chris would've still been tonys intended successor at the time not Bobby. And thus with events with Phil playing out Chris would've been targeted instead of Bobby.

Dude, your videos are Top Notch. I've watched a lotta soprano vids here in YT (mainly because our family had to get rid of HBO half way thru the series run of the Sopranos way back when, so I didn't get to see Christopher's junkie GF from ER & Ben Kingsley's cameo's)... and your postings are SIMPLY THE BEST. If I could ask you to do a subject of new post ( if you haven't already) to be on Rosalie Aprile. As I get older I find her to be more & more of a very attractive "older woman" and I think the producers knew this. Any who, keep up the excellent work Geoff, and I look forward to seeing your next post.

The biggest mistake Christopher ever made was not going into witness protection wirh Adrianna. Tony never cared about him, all Chris ever wanted was Tony's love. He didnt know his own father. Tony was the only father figure in his life. And Tony let him down, leading him down the road to perdition. Its not all Tony's fault, Chris made his own mistakes. Chris chose to stay with Tony, rather than take control of his own life.
