August 2024. Dear Mat. You saved my life. I haven;t had sleep for 3 days now trying every possible thing to do a succesful migration. Finally, I managed to succesfully migrate it and I have a spanking clone of my localhost website. One more thing I needed to do was that the AIW 100GB was zipped in a mac OS System. So I had to locally extract the Zip, delete the Mac OS folder and contents and rezip. After that I exported.. then it worked. I tried your method earlier as well without doing that and restoration errors were there at the end. You may let your Windows users know this. It's important. Much love...from India

Hi Matt, Came back (3 months after my comment) that today this post was responsible for the success of a long processes of web design. I was stress out with the fact that i had to export from my domain to the domain of the client (and time was a key factor). 1 - TOTAL success ; 2 - You have a soothing, calm and generous way to communicate the technical steps of this process. Matt, with all the stress that came with de creations of this website, I was really worried with this final step. absolute livesaver. I am a teacher and web developer from kenya who learned the trade from youtube. I created a website for another client that works completely but the hosting provider was absorbed by a larger one.I was getting a generic internal server error 500 after doing what worked previously. I got the idea to copy the working one to the new one because i could not import themes. That is when i landed on your very useful tutorial. Now i have learned that the problem has to do with size limit, htaccess and and php.ini. i will learn at a later date. meanwhile, i am able to edit the site and deliver. thanks a ton

Matt, Thank's again. This tutorial and your plugin, still a must. Apocalypse happened to my website after some updates, and I had to get back to my local backup site. First I tried to do it by memory ( screwed up) and afterwards just came here and «alt-tabbed» every step of the way. Cheers mate

@@WPressDoctor Hey, mate! At the time I made the comment, didn't think at all it was somewhat a diminishing way to put it, but now I realize I might've seemed that way, sorry for that.. As for my opinion on that quote, since I hadn't heard of you before, I'd thought you were gonna be just another random guy talking in the same manner about the same regular stuff others do, but of course not, as you're the guy who made that huge mod for this pluging and what of a great accomplishment and contribution that is, so I decided to take a look and got to know of the enormous value your cannel's content carries. Thank's again for that mod and for a bunch of other video's I'm still getting to watch! Now, regarding your channel's growth and my professional opinion to contribute to it, I think your approach is spot on (your subtle teaching, ironies/humor as a whole and more). As far as I've watched - and I can emphasize it's not nearly enough to draw a complete opinion neither for good nor bad -, the only thing I would recommend you to change it's your profile photo, not because of your face or pose, but solely because it blends into a pass-by-able/forgetable thing in the screen, maybe due to it's white background resulting in very little contrast against your also very light-toned skin and light blue overlay. I would place a darker overall contrast behind your image. And for now that would be my only recommendation for your channel, and I think you're on the right path as it already is. Now I'll get to read your response to my other comment. But if you have any other thought on this conversation here, let me know and I get back to it!

Hi Matt, thanks for your help. I successfully migrated my 2 websites by following your tutorial. However, I bumped into a problem (stuck) when I tried to import. So i used the backup solution and it worked. Just a quick tip for those who may have the same problem. I actually have to lower my PHP version to 7.4. But if 8.1 works for you, that's great; otherwise, try to lower it to 7.4. Anyway, big thanks to Matt for your help. Really grateful I have found your channel. Subscribed.

Hey Matt, thks for the procedures of migration in Wordpress. I'm struggling with that and my «Local» WP. The Old version of AIO-WP M is a very cool idea. As a graphic designer (coming from print - and Indesign) i'm always comparing the similarities between the two mediums (so the plug in «better find and change» was interesting too). Hey Doc, its me again! After a year, I completely redesigned a site, from local, I was trying to restore it online, but the site broke while restoring, stuck at 16%, after refresh it gave me the in famous white screen "Critical Error". I FTPed from back end, rename the plugin subfolder, was able to login fro wp-admin again, then I attempted to restore, it got stuck again! *sigh, when I check the log file, it seem AIO itself was causing the problem. As it turned out, the AIO was the older version while on the local machine a newer ones (this one). I fired up FTP again, deleted the old AIO installed the same version and viola! They new site was online! Thanks again Doc!

Thanks for another wonderful tutorial Matt, you're awesome. Have you made a vid on best practices when migrating? In this example your new host/site thing was blank, what if you've designed a new site to go over an old one. Do you delete the old site, just overwrite it, how do you do loads of redirects at one, what are the problems that might occur and so on? Sorry if that's asking too much :D

Hi there and thanks for the great suggestions. Yeah that’s a good point. Normally indeed I use a empty installation to use for the migrate. Because than you have no old rubbish from a old website. So that’s always the best way to go. If that’s not possible then I would drop all database tables of the old installation after migrating. 👍🏻 But creating a video about this would not be a long video, I think one of 3 minutes hehe. for anyone getting stuck while restoring. Your issue maybe solved by excluding must include plugin while exporting.

@@WPressDoctor yes the mu-plugin was stackcache. I replaced it with another caching plugin. There may have been other options. Maybe deactivating plugins throught ftp or ssh on the restored site but since it stops at a certain point of the restore their may be some css and data losses. What do you think?

Hi there! Thanks for your question. Yeah it works great with both PHP versions. Just make sure that the new WordPress installation also has the same PHP version. That could cause issues (I have never encountered it, but it’s possible). Does that answer your question?

Downloaded it, opened the page, found the new video, but I could not find the new plugin that you had fixed up. I'd like to give it a try because I'm having problems with my paid pro All-in-one, sites bigger than a half a gig seem to hang up and not restore, so I'm left with some files installed, such as uploads and plugins, but the database never seems to install. That happened on my 4G wordpress site a couple of days ago. I'm very disappointed, and would like to try your free version. Thanks for your time.

Quick answer, that’s not supposed to happen. What you can do is just upload the backup file manually to your website on the right place. Then try the option “backup” in the plugin. Let me know if that works?
