When I was a kid we cut hay with a sickle bar, raked it, ran a crimper on it, then square baled it on the ground. No haybine or kicker baler. Then we hooked up a couple hay wagons and stacked the hay about 8 rows high. Then we put it in the barn with a conveyer. Lots of handling. Your forearms would be scratched up, but you were 17 years old and never got really tired. Loved it.

I hate seeing all the plastic used on round bales, that’s why I love small squares! To Joel and the stable life one of the round hay bales look like a lion's mane before you wrapped it like a marshmallow and one other hay bale ran away on you and it went roly-poly before you could go and catch it 😂🤭. And it's good to have family helping you when you need it the most.

When you have a bunch of unwrapped bales like that, do you put a tarp over them in case of rain? I always wonder about that because I live in Florida and in the summer, we have thunderstorms daily. Some of them are pretty feisty (at least on the gulf side). I've always wondered if you ever considered putting a similar structure up to the left of where you keep your square bales that would be high enough to accommodate 2 round bales stacked (and the tractor, ATV) or is there not enough room between the current run-in and the ring? I'm not good at sizing spaces up so I can't tell how much room is available. I've been pondering that since last winter (it's a borderline OCD thing - snow on farm equipment). I'm so happy you've got the bulk of your bales set for the year! One less thing to worry about with the hot days of summer ahead. 😊

If you need about 332 round bales to get you through the year plus your big square bales should your barn be big enough to hold the 332 round bales plus the big square bales? Sounds like your barn needs to be a little bit bigger.

Please consider a dedication video to Poncho. The title of the previous video indicated nothing of Poncho’s passing, rather your first attempt at hay bailing. Poncho was a beautiful horse. Isn’t that what your channel focuses on, the horses at SKS?

Poncho was a beautiful horse and I went back to watch a few videos where he was featured. Personally, I think placing the news at the end of the video was a fitting tribute. Acquiring hay is a process of running a stable and Joel should be excited with all the things he's learning and accomplishing this year.
