Fabulous explanation, thank you. Can I ask a question about telltale holes in rigid staybolts? When 1225 broke some staybolts in Owasso in 2009, the crew noted that there was a problem because water was running into the firebox. Does the telltale hole go the full length of the staybolt, or is it plugged shut at one end? Seems to me that if they go all the way through, heat would be lost through each one, and if you add hundreds of little losses it could be a considerable loss overall. thank you

I did find the math but would like to know more about thickness and how you use it In the math used to calculate max safe working pressure if you can I would like as much detail as you can ,
