Thanks for the videos. I also like to use the marine (with glue) heat shrink. I put at least 1/2” past each butt joint. And I like to put a larger shrink tube over both wires and staggered butt joints. The spark plug with the groves on it that you can feel with your finger nail is from the high voltage electrons traveling outside the spark plug to ground cutting the ceramic portion instead of running through the spark plug in the engine. Thanks again for your videos! Phil

Ahhh the never ending argument on wire repair . Any repairs are only as good as the person making them . This was a proper repair for certain. I've seen just as many crappy solder as well as crimp connections. Whatever you choose to do , do it right.

It just amazes me how folks can make such lousy repairs and don't understand why they don't last. I guess that's one of the things that keeps you in business. Personally when I buy a used vehicle one of the thing I inspect very closely is the wiring. If it's been cut into I almost always pass. Keep the good stuff coming.

Proof AGAIN a very careful visual before moving things around can be well worth a minute or so. That marine ? grade heat shrink is the best way to go IMO. ANOTHER good video.👍👍
@johnnylightning1491
@johnnylightning1491 Жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more, marine grade heat shrink is the ONLY way to go if it's on a vehicle. Stuff that is used inside maybe not so much.

Hey Kenny. If the coil has a magnet in it which can be checked with an other magnet outside of the coil, you will have to observe the stock wiring polarity as a reversed wiring polarity to the coil will reduce spark energy instead of boosting the energy! The coils used in some Ford cars used a magnet inside the coil body to increase spark energy.

Have you ever tried solder stick wire connectors? They create a soldered and watertight join in one go. You don't nned to solder but it doesn't hurt to do either, especially when it's as easy to do as a non soldered join.

Any time you do plugs on these engines, change all the coil boots as well. Over time the rubber gets soft and weak from engine heat and can cause voltage leak through. Best to use Motorcraft plugs too, these engines are picky for that.

Ken, your repair will work I'm sure. Staggering the splice locations and western union splicing is the detail often overlooked. This method completely eliminates any chance of accidental contact. Hope this helps ... I've had butt splices fail.

If you ever purchased an aftermarket gas cap always keep the original on chrysler cars, because you'll get a GASCAP message on the odometer periodically. All you have to do to clear this out is to replace with the original gas cap that came with the car, drive for a few miles, then replace your aftermarket gas cap back on.

Once I saw the tin plating burned off that terminal pin, I knew it had to be either overcurrent or arcking (it was arcking, from not being seated properly in its mating contact). The owner was lucky that a control transistor wasn't knocked out. 😒
@jonathanrees3765
@jonathanrees3765 Жыл бұрын
It is a good idea to stagger the connections when you are doing 2 or more wires. Wire polarity may have an impact - there can be a diode (or something else) in circuit to damp back emf spike. Would not likely show an issue short term but could potentially blow the coil long term. Please note I do not know if these have have any protection circuit, but is fairly common with coil circuits.

Ford's have issues with the coil connectors I've had quite a few just snap the lock off just by pushing it in.Also I've found a lot of loose spark plugs on 4.6 snd. 5.4 engines.

The reason that factories do not solder is because it is not cost efficient. They already have a harness going from point A to point B during the manufacturing process. No need for it.

11:35.. Ouch, I guess I was wrong all these years by putting a small of amount anti-seize compound on porcelain spark plug now learning from this video that it might cause electrical tracking causing misfire / rough idle....
@thomask4836
@thomask4836 Жыл бұрын
I have run into this. Anti Seize conducts electricity and definitely will cause carbon tracking on the porcelain spark plug insulator. It also destroys the boot which gets carbon tracked as well. What I don't understand is why the carbon track appears under the last boot I pull off which is usually in the most inconvenient spot!

Sorry for jumping in with an unrelated question I've been searching for hours and need help. Searching for information on my driver's side window 2008 sebring. It is not recognizing that the door is open which causes the radio and window switch to still be working. These would normally be operable for 5 minutes with door closed. The window however on the convertible is supposed to be down slightly and then close completely after door is shut. Has anyone had this happen? I've tried the up down reset with no luck. I would really appreciate some insight.
