Jim Cornettes knowledge is one of the best minds in the business. Yes he's better with older wrestling but stasiak said it best. His knowledge is based more on classic wrestling but it does work with current wrestling. Aew could use Cornette alot.

He failed at ROH miserably with Cody outbooking him in sales and attendance 10-1. Also, JC never wrestled, he got his start working for Jeff Jarrets mom and was the editor of their magazine and spent his 20s and 30s as a Manager for the Midnight Express. So are we going to call Bruce Prichard(brother love) a genius now too??. . If youtube and twitter were around in the 70s , JC would be the JD from NY of his day. Eric Bischoff is the best mind in the business. JC is more like a shock jock on AM radio that managed to get an audience from echo chambers.

@@chibiromano5631 I mean easy e is good don't get me wrong. And yes I'm aware Cornette has had some problems in some promotions. But who hasn't. Easy had problems towards the end of WCW only bc he wasn't running it at that time. But Cornette and Prichard are both great bookers. Both have had their issues but both have been extremely successful with it too. So I'm not discrediting either one. Bishoff is a great mind for the business too. He's helped wwe, WCW and even tna build a better show while he was on each of them. Yes he used alot of the same ppl from WCW. But he knows how to sell and stur up shit too.

@@chibiromano5631 wholeheartedly agree. Cornette's only real strength in terms of today's wrestling is understanding the basics of a storyline and where to throw ur money at which mind u is an admirable trait but when the industry has moved far past that, ur reputation has taken a massive tumble and ur not even the best at ur basic perception of booking then JC just doesn't fit in modern wrestling anymore. Kenny Bolins shirt is accurate: BS. Just like Rus-bro, I guess they imagine that everyone else is as dense and unimaginative as they are. Cornette is a wrestling historian with an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the sport, and he cited an example of where he got the idea for the Screwjobs finish. Anyone who believes anyone else came up with it is oblivious.

No he's not, dude never wrestled and got fired from multiple jobs in the industry. He's considered a failure. He couldn't even book a 10,000 arena at ROH when he was put in charge of head booking back in 2010. He pretty much led a 6-10 ROH roster/team and turned them into a 1-15 team. When Cody and Bucks arrived/returned to ROH in 2017 they were able to turn around this 1-15 team into a 7-9 team and managed to book a 10,000 seat arena, a feat that the great mind of Cornette never accomplished. .. and Rhodes did it with Joey Janella,Jay Lethal and Penelope Ford , JC had the luxury talents of Seth Rollins,KO, Adam Cole, Omega,Briscoes,Cesaro and never sold out a show. If you want to hear a real wrestling genius, you should listen to Bischoff he actually was a success story. Also Heyman is a genius too, but cornell is massivly overated af

What exactly did he do for the industry that is he such a great wrestling mind? Because outside of ranting and cutting promos, I see nothing special about him. Smoky Mountain was a mediocre promotion that he booked in such a way that he would shit all over it today if it was booked by someone else. His booking in ROH was the most boring era ROH went through... this guy is mid from up to down... this is just typical to Western culture, and particularly US culture where people confuse 'talking a lot' with competence.
@RyseZen

@@davidgreen5994 You act like him being the manager for Bobby Eaton, Stan Lane, Dennis Condrey, Vader, Yokozuna, Owen hart, Tom Prichard, Jimmy Del Ray, British Bulldog, all of his amazing promos, his Work for SMW, WWE, WCW, Crockett promotions, WCCW, TNA, NWA all the stories, memories, wrestling knowledge in his head which could fill hundreds of books mean nothing. his experience more in his life than anyone of us would have the chance to experience. if you went back to listen to any of his promos in WWE you would see him as not only one of the best managers of all time but one of the best talkers, which is why to me he is one of the best wrestling minds of all time. yes his booking in ROH was the shits, but he even admits that at that point in his heart wasn't in it. but how would you feel if the thing that you loved most and dedicated your entire life to, that you have bleed for and almost gotten killed for is being ruined in front of you at an alarming rate. Also side note SMW had Rick Rubin as a financial backer in which he demanded some horrible shit to be booked and horrible wrestlers to wrestle. Can't pin it all on cornette. Smokey Mountain was never suppose to be as big as WWE or Crockett and cornette never wanted it to be, he wanted it to be a regional promotion for the old school fans, it still holds up in alot of aspects compared to wrestling today. yes it had shit moments but what promotion doesn't. Going back and listening to any Gangsta's Promo and seeing them get so much heat from the crowd to were if felt like there was going to be a riot was incredible and something that will probably never happen again.

@@chibiromano5631 your really going to call Eric and Heyman geniuses after calling out JC for failing at ROH? Eric failed at wcw and Heyman ECW. Don’t be hypocritical. Cornette was also out in charge of OVW by WWE where he tried guys such as Brock, Cena, Orton, Batista and Benjamin. The reason JC got fired multiple times is because he speaks his mind and doesn’t take shit.

Dutch says Vince Russo has too many ideas and will put an idea on top of an idea. That's true he'll put a gimmick on top of a gimmick. @@mercoidRemember the reverse battl3 Royale? I think Vince called it "Fight for the Right". You have one guy hiding on the outside until enough people were brawling on the outside to reach the magic number. Thing that makes that match so awful is logically you would scramble to get in the ring instead of wasting time brawling on the outside. The worst is anything on a pole. Vince Russo is writing all this shit for an audience of one, himself.

Can we agree that the worst side of Cornette came out during the Smoky Mountian Wrestling days? I think the stress of running a promotion and trying sooooooo hard to be successful with his brand of wrestling was just too much. He probably only had about half the staff and half the resources he truly needed. I think he damn near killed himself and everyone around him trying to keep SMW alive.... just my two cents though who knows

To be fair to Corny, when he started Smokey Mountain, he literally just started but didn't have enough to keep the promotion going.
@travelreview5962
@travelreview5962 Жыл бұрын
@@williammitchell4417 yes and I think the stress of that weighed on him a lot. I'm sure just the stress of making payroll and keeping asses in the seats was a ton of weight on his shoulders. When you're in the wrestling business you are by definition competing with the WWE. Trying to compete with a company like that which has essentially unlimited funds, world wide TV deals, first pick of not only the biggest most proven stars but the up and comers with the most potential....I mean all that is almost impossibile to overcome with the level of funding that Jim had. Remember Stone Cold Steve Austin drank his first beer in ECW. He was poised to become the biggest star in industry history and would've likely helped ECW bring in a huge audience but smaller organizations can not keep their stars because of the money and TV time Vince can offer..... you're just fighting a losing battle and if your Jim Cornette who is more passionate about wrestling than any human who has ever lived it has to destroy you inside working as hard as you can and still not even being successful enough to keep the doors open...🙁

I used to think Jim hating on AEW was sour grapes cuz his phone didn’t ring. Now I know his phone DID ring. They DID ask him for his input to make the product better but he said “no”. So he’s not sour over it, he’s just talking shit to get himself over with HIS marks. Which is actually worse than just sour grapes, Jim is cowardly

I highly doubt anyone rings him. The old man is a liability, that got himself either fired or pushed away from every wrestling promotion in the US. At this point, there is no respectable promotion that would get anywhere close to him. And look, as a manager for other wrestlers he was good... but why the heck would anyone want his input on making the product better? On what basis? Did this dude ever have a success story as a booker or promoter? When it comes to booking this dude is the most overrated mediocrity in the industry. The wrestling he likes was already outdated by 1990. ROH already gave him a chance in 2010's, he booked the show, and everyone hated that era... it was boring and outdated. Taking input and advice for someone who is disconnected from what modern fans like and want, is the recipe for bankrupcy.

@@davidnorton2473 That's not how it works. Saying that something is shit, is not a different opinion. If I come to you, and ask for your advice, but I don't like your advice and call you an imbecile, that's not me having a different opinion from you, that's me being an ass and insulting you. Saying 'thank you for the advice, but I disagree with it' - that is having a different opinion. There is nothing wrong with disliking or liking something, peoples have preferences. But when you came and you establish that something so many peoples love is shit, don't be shocked when you experience lynching. That is not a different opinion, that's you deciding that your personal taste and opinion is above that of the masses. You are not simply disliking something, you establish that everyone else likes shit. Is a form of narcissism and arrogance, that will always get backlash.
