In this video we show the very first drill we use when learning how to shoot takedowns. We are simply getting in our wrestling stance, changing levels and dropping straight to a knee like we would for a single leg or double leg takedown. Also worth noting, we are NOT taking a penetration step.
The goal of the drill is to change levels, drop to a knee then stabilize ourselves in the “bone” position. That is where we have our head up, hips in and back straight.
Make sure you are in a good stance, lower levels, have your chest on your knee, then drop your knee to the tape. After your knee is on the tape, the foot of your trailing leg can move to the tape as well. It should be in line with the knee and place at a distance where you can push off of it to step up and return to your feet.
