Lost - New Man in Charge - EXTRA - Ben Visits Dharma Warehouse

This clip is part of the DVD extras during LOST's final season. In this clip Ben visits the Dharma warehouse to tell them their contribution the the dharma project is no longer need. However they have some questions before they down tools and move on with their lives.
What do you think this means, there is no longer an island? Has everyone now left?

This genuinely answered everything I questioned about Dharma, mainly why are food drops are still happening.

Honestly I’m willing to bet that because of the fluctuating electromagnetism of the facility they were unable to store such a password. Pretty much every computer storage medium is based off of magnets, so maybe only the firmware was robust enough to remain intact and uncorrupted through the environment

My guess is that they didn't because if something went wrong, it was the end of the world. Same reason we would never fully automate a nuclear power plant.

Those guys played their role well, I bet they signed up because they saw a Job offer on a newspaper about Saving the world. The way they try to question what happened to the DHARMA Initiative says it all.

@@elmago5337 Hugo and ben were now the island protectors. And they went to shut down the warehouse as there was no need for it to be open when dharmas gone. And they needed to get Walt for an unknown job on the island.

I think I figured it out: They were experimenting on Polar bears to see the effects of teleporting something with a human sized brain (using the Orchid Station teleporters) and also see if they could adapt an animal used to cold temperatures to survive in warmer temperatures (the data could be used for humans with global warming coming). I read somewhere that the Dharma Initiative was trying to change an equation that calculated the end of the world; they could have tried to do that by changing human survivability in warmer climates, hence the bear experiments. The bear Charlotte found in Tunisia was one that they put in the teleporter in Orchid Station teleporters to see its effect. That's my guess after 12 or so years...

An interesting dialogue choice "sorry about the quality, we transferred it from an old betamax" when obviously the effect that they were going for with the footage was for super 8/ 16mm film. I'm guessing that the change was made in a meeting because so many of the audience wouldn't know what super 8 or 16mm film was.

While this was cute you still have to wonder how these subsidiary operations of the Dharma Initiative remained funded for 20 years after its demise. Somebody was bankrolling these drops and paying these guys salaries.

The money was probably in a trust with automatic payments sent to suppliers who would deliver the goods to the warehouse. They employees were probably automatically paid the same way with direct deposit money going into their bank accounts. The warehouse employees probably didn't ask many questions. They were paid well and living in tropical Guam. They probably liked their jobs, sorting incoming shipments, repacking and relabeling everything with the Dharma labels. The only push came when certain shipments arrived late and they hard to work hard to get the manifested items palletized and onto the UAVs

But we still don't know who sent the food to the Hydra Station where it was boxed & loaded onto the drones. Was that automated, too? And how did they get paid? Or was it room & board in exchange for work? These are valid thoughts.

Funny enough, they should have been paid and payroll taxes would have applied. The IRS would have found this island before anyone else 😂
