Great pod, as usual. I don’t get why people get so down so quickly. I think it may be specific to this sport. I’m a sports junky from Boston and we can get as negative as any, even with 12 championships in the last 22 years, but the footy fan takes it next level! It was pointed out to me that the average lifespan of a gaffer is slightly more than ONE year! That is absolutely mental, if true. Hope all Wrexham fans, old & new but especially new as we have nothing to moan about at all, can relax a bit, enjoy the ride it’s been and remember we are sat in a very nice spot, a position as you pointed out, anyone would have gladly taken before the season started! Cheers gents!

As another American sports fan I was just having this same conversation with my buddy a couple weeks ago. My American football team is the Seahawks and since we became a good organization in 2000 we have had 3 head coaches, 2 if you don't count the Jim Mora transition year, which I do not. That's 25 seasons between 2 coaches. Imo firing the manager because he has a bad month is the sign of badly run clubs, look at Sunderland... I'm sticking by Super Phil until there's an absolute meltdown which certainly hasn't been the case this season. Yes we have the players to have a better record but it's not like we're in danger of relegation at all and we still have a very good shot of going up again! Up the Town!

To be fair, Boston fans in the 21st century can't really relate to the Wrexham mindset. The Wrexham mindset is actually VERY similar to Boston sports fans from the 20th century. I lived for half my life in that mindset and it is something no Boston sports fan under 35 can understand. Even when things are going good, you are just waiting for the wheels to inevitably fall off. For all of its titles in the 21st century, Boston of the 20th century was the town of Bill Buckner, Bucky Dent, Grady Little and Aaron Boone.
@jph418
@jph418 3 ай бұрын
@@brianeleighton Grady Little and Aaron Boone was 2003, this century. And the next year the Sox did something no other MLB team did and vs the hated Yankees to boot! That was the first of 4 World Series THIS century, the most of any MLB team so far. Billy Buckner, RIP, was the unfortunate scapegoat of an epic collapse in ‘86 but should have been removed for defensive replacement like he had been numerous times that season. That and good chance Mookie still beats him to the bag with how slow ball was hit. He gets the blame but so much to go around there. ‘86 was also the year of arguably the greatest basketball team ever assembled, and another Celtics title! As far as rest of 20th century, Celtics won 16 championships; the bruins won 5 Stanley Cups and the Sox won 5 World Series titles so even though in my lifetime, I’m 56, only 2 bruins titles and 6 Celtics titles, plenty of success in Beantown. point is: even when team(s) do well, there are plenty of moaners about. As a new Wrexham fan, I have absolutely nothing to complain about. It’s been a fantastic 2 years. And the run has only begun.

@@jph418 You are missing the point. I agree with you on Buckner by the way. I also was watching both of those series. I was too young for Bucky Dent, but Aaron Boone was my generation's version. I also remember how hopeless I felt at the start of the 9th inning the next year. That year broke the curse that Boston had been under for close to 90 years. These poor Wrexham supporters endured about 20 years of a cursed existence. It skews your thinking to where you are expecting disaster instead of good things. This means whenever the team suffers a wobble people are thinking/saying, "Well, that is the start of it. It will all end in tears now." Those thoughts are what lead people to call for sacking the gaffer.

@@brianeleighton you’re right. I did miss your point. Still bugs me that fans get so negative so easily. Parky was hired for one job- get them out of the NL. Job done. But he’s still getting grief despite being the all time win % leader and lowest loss % too. That doesn’t matter when you lose 3 straight, which never happened with him here. Mental!! He’s on a rolling contract for a reason- club and he aren’t planning for a long term relationship. My problem is that the team is still doing fine. If you asked any long term Wrexham fan at the beginning of the season if they’d take 3rd place with 11 games to go, I’m guessing 99% would say yes! And the moaning I’m hearing mostly is from new fans like me, who have absolutely zero reason to be bitching. It’s been a fantastic couple of years with a real shot of back to back promotions. I think there is a different mindset with this particular sport. Average gaffer tenure isn’t even 2 years! That’s insane! Footy fans seem to go negative quicker than most other sport fans. For me, as a fan, sports has always been a nice distraction, regardless of how my teams are doing, from real life stuff.

Humphrey Ker: the voice of reason. Good to hear it from the man and the Board itself. Tim, don't look so blue; it's just a slump mate. The team will bounce back to winning days. It's a cycle. Rhs, keep the smiles and great questions coming. Andrew: three hard-hitting questions in a row. Mate, you wear the reporter's cap well. Great episode gents. Keep them coming. Cheers from the US.

Great pod as ever. Just wanted to say when the substitutions where made, (a little late again), there seemed to be more aggressive play pushing forward which I think was down to Jordan Davies, was great to see him back, but where's he been? 6th highest scorer, plays hardly ever, that says something surely. The one through ball Davies played was great, the forwards just weren't ready for it. Need more of that aggression. Hunger for it if you will.

Humphrey is right when he says the last 2 away performances have been better, compared to the usual dross we have served previously away, but the lack of goals 15 in 16 games is not mentioned, even though thats a huge part why we are struggling and it has still not been rectified. Still feel even though we would have took 4th at this point at start of season , it will be a huge disappointment if we miss out on promotion after the strong position we found ourselves in around xmas and a january transfer window to come on top to strenghten, ( The two we brought are not really a improvement of what we already have ). Good informative pod fair play.

Good listen/watch again. Good to see everyone edging round to my tactical viewpoint :) Thought the back 3 and wing backs on Saturday were excellent. The mistake was, as Andy noted, in not startimg Young. Lee has been a passenger for about 3 monrhs now and having McClean in his space obviously isn’t helping. Main issue on Saturday was, as Humphrey noted, some unfortunate decision making when chances were created and a general lack of penetration up front. Once the goal went in (never a free kick incidentally) we were unfortunately never coming back as the options on the bench weren’t there. At the risk of being controversial I see nothing in Marriott or Bolton at all. Their decision making is awful and Bolton in particular looks no better than non-league level. That lack of penetration will cost us dear. Suspect we lose at FGR. Having seen Accrington away I am massively reassured that the absence of O’Connor and Evans will at least give us more possesion if we start Young. Getting 3 poimts though? Where ate the goals comimg from?

I get the feeling that the team is worried and panicking.These guys are all worthy of good to great games , they need to settle down, and more importantly get the basics right! It worries me that lately, it appears that the lads are shooting at goal willy nilly, it signifies a definite lack of team spirit and support. Everyone looks as though they are out to prove themselves!!😊

I do agree with Ref comments, i often wonder if the English refs are affected by anti English vitriol from the stands, they are human, also if Paul didn't fall over so much i think he would get more fouls, unfortunately he has a reputation

7th was my prediction at start of season and that's all this team is worth. League 2 again next year. New manager (perhaps Wayne Rooney, hah!) midseason 2024-25 and end of documentary after season 4, and then still in League 2 for a third year. What you haven't discussed is possible player dissension in the locker room which is well hidden as several players lack motivation with no contracts and even those that do, like Mulls and Lee have gone subpar. Mansfield champions, Stockport 2nd, and tossup for third between MK Dons, Crewe, Barrow, Crawley and Gills. Hope I'm wrong and I'll deserve a kick in the teeth but after Gills, I think the jig is up no matter how much lipstick Ker paints on the pig.

We obviously needed a striker in the Jan window, and it is coming home to roost now, anyone who watches team home and away (hi Andy in the pub in Sutton) knew this was coming, Palmer looks over weight and disinterested, Fletcher cannot play 90 or 2 or 3 games on the trot, Dalby just isn't good enough, seen bits from Marriott but looks a few games away from full fitness, I am not overreacting but if we bought properly we would have won this league, its not the Gills/MK performances that bother me its Salford and Newport

It is just pathetic blaming Mullin's lack of fitness in February on a lack of a pre-season! Pundits said lack of a proper pre-season was the case with the rest of the side in August (and who is responsible for that?!) but the players were over that in September. Mullin came off the bench on 9th September and then made his first start of the season a week later on 16th September.
