Demand minimum wage reflect cost of living. *OR* demand that things that lead to post war boom. 90% marginal income tax on wealth over 45 million, capping rent at $1000 and mortgages at roughly $120K.

@@idigamstudios7463 A "living wage" isn't what they are asking for, lol. A "living wage" to live comfortably in hollywood is probably 5x as much as most people get in the rest of the country... that's the first problem. Second, having a position in a production company of CEO or equivalent is not something you can say shouldn't be a high-earning position because the company doesn't exist without them. And.. yes, I demand they get minimum wage. That's what they SHOULD be getting... across the board. Actors included with only very specific exceptions.
@idigamstudios7463

@@baconoverlord7982 So I addressed the first point, the demand that they live and work in these high cost cities. Second thing you said about CEOs is actually wrong. Like provably mathematically wrong. CEOs, *especially* those making such disgustingly large sums, lose their companies money and tend to make really bad decisions. This is caused by two problems; one is the Dunning Kruger effect combined with their wealth they don't surround themselves with people who give good advice but contradict them. Meaning they don't compensate for their blind spots. Second is a corporate culture created in the 80s in which CEOs and shareholders see their companies not as businesses to be managed but a coffer they can ransack for their own wealth. See the absolute desolation of General Electric by this same mindset. tldr; CEOs are not your friends, they don't earn what they have. They get it by nepotism and exploitation. If you don't stand with labor you're a tool of management. (who will treat you like that, an object to be used and thrown away)

Writers are the most important part of any filmed media. The idea that writers make a fraction of what producers receive is 100% unfair and unsustainable.

@Kasiarzynka Жыл бұрын
True. There are movies and shows that are really well made but if the story is not engaging to me, I won't re-watch them. On the other hand, there are productions that are worse in terms of quality of visual effects, sounds, fights, lighting etc., but if the story captures me, and especially if actors aren't made of wood, I can literally re-watch it 3 times. Don't forget that movies and shows are, in the end, a medium for storytelling. We've been telling stories probably for as long as we have speech, while cameras are a really new invention.

TransDev, San Deigo, is dealing with a strike right now. The companies only purpose is to 'manage the workers,' think basic hiring processes, and ensure the schedules are being filled... that sort of thing. Nearly Ten Million dollars, each year, go to this company for the sole purpose of this 'middle management' of which the major duty is Scheduling. Talk to any driver about the work loads they are doing to try and meet the routes, or passenger about delays in said routes, to really judge that schedule. Boxes of paperwork still sit in the offices about lunch break violations, because the schedules are that bad. Yet the very concept of using all those millions to hire even more drivers to over-schedule isn't even considered by Trans-Dev's parent company or the government that ultimately pays for all of it. Better sending that money to some big multinational... for... reasons? Ah tax payer funded corporate-socialism! The 'sub-contracting' thing is a beautiful part of skimming from the top. Get some additional overhead going for a simple task by demanding the ability to contract the work out to others, and you can throw three companies at the 'trough!' As long as the same shareholders own all three companies... win for them! The only efficiency brought to the system is how fast Tax-Payer Funds get bled out of America.

The rich use our tax dollars to fund their selective socialism. If they run out of money, we bail them out. Their businesses fail, we bail them out. They don't want to pay back loans, we bail them out. So while the rest of us live in a pseudo democracy, they live in a socialist society.

@randomusername5242 Wages are not some inherent feature of the universe out of our control. This robbery from workers is a choice by the employers, enforced by the federal government. Wages can be raised, on a dime, and enforced by law, whenever and wherever they decide. They just don't because we still go to work regardless because we need money to not die in this country. Wages, as they are right now, is not representative of labor value. In fact, wages can never equal labor value, but that's another discussion entirely. But wages, as they are right now, is a choice, made by congress and their lobbyists. They keep it as low as possible to increase profits as much as possible for as long as they can get away with it. It is a choice. One they could change if they actually wanted to.

There needs to be more intersectional solidarity. Some actors have stood by you fine folks, but all actors who care should be doing the same. Production crews, cinematographers, directors, etc., also need to join en masse. These execs think your righteous crusade is futile because they think AI and cheap gig writers are plentiful. Maybe they are, but if actors and crew deprive them of their labor, as well, then the issue will finally be forced to be addressed by these plutocratic moguls

Unfortunately, the ownership class has been eroding working class rights in this country, and solidarity strikes are illegal in the United States. On top of that, the right wing union leaders at the top of IATSE and SAG have stuck with the gift to the owner class of no-strike clauses. I'm sure tons of actors and production people would love to gang up on Hollywood, but they can't unless they want their unions decertified or fined. Get out the bootlickers at the top, and put in people like Adam, remove those no-strike clauses, and use that collective power to tear down the right of the ownership class to oppress us.

Unless their fields have unionized and the unions themselves join the strike, that's simply not a good idea. It's all well and good for an actor with brand power, and therefore leverage, to refuse to work. It's something else entirely for people who actually work to survive to deprive themselves of that work and risk getting blacklisted. Unions have power and protection that non-unionized individuals simply don't. This is why corporations union-bust so aggressively. Getting the rich and famous on board would obviously be a boon. The regular folk on the ground, however, simply don't have the latitude to join things like this without serious backup.

Who knows maybe Disney will be populated with folks who have ideas more original then “let’s just make the same thing but worse and with feminism.” Mind you I expect feminism in some places and it’s not a bad thing necessarily, I don’t expect Disney to make a new cinematic version of the color purple, but if they did it might be worth watching, the trouble is when they completely throw out the themes of the original work in favor of a muddled modernist message. @@onamattapeeya Artificial Illiteracy can't even properly avoid tautology, and it steals actual artists' work and uses it as input. Decent movies are still being made, and some actual gems have been released recently. The real reason why shows suck lately is because companies know people will watch whatever garbage they make, so they underpay and rush their writers to make shitty products. AI will make the issue even worse because Hollywood will need to care even less. The whole AI thing is designed to give already rich and powerful assholes power over our culture at the expense of living people whos work is stolen by the AI. How about we force billionaires (you know, people who already waste huge amounts of money on glorified chatbots) to decently pay artists to make good shows and movies, instead of letting Hollywood care even less about art? I personally want real people who actually understand human psyche to make things that speak to me personally, instead of watching the product created by an algorithm incapable of coming up with truly new ideas.

People are STUNNED that writers don't want AI to replace them and that we'd strike over it. That we should somehow be grateful that tech and the free market smiled upon us. Unions are only good if they're effective... None of the unions I've personally worked with/for/under were worth a darn.

I have never understood why IT gets paid so much but writing, which is a discipline, career, art form, and challenging work gets treated like it’s nothing! I really hope you get a great deal! You work so hard and should be recognized and PAID A LOT! No more free drafts and labor! Stand strong!

I work in IT -- am I supposed to just starve? It shouldn't be a competition. Everyone should be able to afford what they need. That said, I support the strike, I'm just worried it's going to backfire for them.

IT is actually benificial to Humanity. Creating shit entertainment is not. People have been more inspired to be better by literal wars, pandemics and terrorism rather than the shit writing coming from these people the past decade or so.
