I so happy someone made a video review on the Cobb AP for the WRX CVT. It's so hard to find any info on the automatic as they are kind of rare to begin with. I really appreciate this and how thorough you are in giving details. So many questions have been answered for me ✌️

Honestly, I got the CVT because other family members needed to drive it too. I also wanted to modify it as well, but forums were saying the CVT wouldn't hold the power, especially if you want to put on a turbo kit, but I like your tune and puts out surprisingly a sufficient amount of power. Nice tune overall!

I have a question. So I’m running V4.00 BigSF 1+ 93OCT Normal wastegate map. On my CVT with obviously the SF intake and a Grimmspeed BPV I saw a peak 22.6 on boost. Scared me a bit because I heard too much boost can bend a rod. Should I be worried and go to a Low wastegate 93 tune or am I safe with the normal wastegate tune. I heard it was normal to peak that high because it’s only for a brief second before dropping out.

Another great video. I plan on doing some of the same mods so it's nice to see someone do and review before me. In one of your previous videos, you mentioned installing a mishimoto cvt cooler. Have you done that already? Do you think it's necessary with the accessport?
@timothylim2257
@timothylim2257 5 жыл бұрын
On the forums it said installing a mishimoto intercooler and torque converter would allow the CVT to handle more power, such as a turbo kit. There are quite a few videos on youtube about it. I think AMR is one of the well known shops that specialize in WRX'S with CVT. This one guy's WRX CVT was pushing 330hp..not bad at all lol. He even gives you a list of all his mods too. Good luck, chingoo! 😉

I still can't decide whether or not to get the AP...it seems like no one likes the factory tunes, but how many people really drive the car in sport#...from nearly 100% of all the vids I see and all the forums I read, everyone complains about the car stock...everyone complaining mostly drives the car in sport or intelligent modes...I only use intelligent mode for highway cruising speeds and stop and go traffic...sport mode is the "regular" mode to drive the car, and I think I'm the only one who loves that sudden turbo kick...I'm not trying to be Mario Andretti on the public streets, but when u need to pass/over take someone, merge on highway, sport mode and sport# is the way to go...I've noticed decent gas mileage whether I drive in all 3 modes...and for regular street driving I use sport#...also you have paddle shifters, use them in tandem with your CVT transmission, believe me there is no need to go chasing 500hp when what you have is enough to out perform 90% of the cars on the street, especially with AWD and Subaru handling
@85WD

@@akqjtn I hear you...it's just for me I came from muscle cars and I spent lots of money tuning and upgrades etc but nothing really ever yielded something worth the thousands spent...I know with the WRX ive gotten exactly what I always wanted in a car...improving drivability is something I would like to experience, it's just too bad you can't borrow and AP and try it out for a couple days or so to see whether or not it's worth the expense...but hopefully as the years go on there may be other options available that provide an alternative to spending $1200+(CAD) just to get an AP for a whopping 5hp increase...if there are other options I'm all ears, I know there are many many others with better knowledge and experience with these cars...it's my first turbo car so I'm really sketchy about breaking something

@@oldajm5177 ha I've actually had a few cars since then but not the wrx so I have no idea. My guess is the different modes aside from simulating a different amount of gears, also change the pressure on the belt so as you progress through the modes it becomes more and more aggressive. Nothings beats a manual though for feel. I was looking at this for my wife. We had a jaguar xe 35t instead but then she got a tuned mini Cooper s that was almost brand new and I got an e39 540i out of the deal too.

I had a 2015 WRX with COBB stage 1. Just purchased a 2017 WRX with 6 speed standard. Take my word for it...DO NOT GET A CVT UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. No comparison to the standard. Feels like a completely different car and a much better and funner driving experience. The engine itself even sounds different. I had heard the engines put in the CVT models were "dumbed down" for the sake of less wear to the CVT and now I totally believe that was probably the case. I tuned my 2017 WRX with the COBB stage 1 93 octane and it is amazing.

The car does not come with a proper launch control. I highly advise never launching a CVT WRX.

Why get an automatic though I don’t understand? You buy a car like the wrx because you obviously like to drive. Getting an automatic in a car like this I just don’t understand it. And I’m not trying to talk trash I just seriously don’t know why you would get an automatic wrx.

Boost & Shutter I can see it being a good daily driver. I’ll have to go test drive one. I currently have a 2018 wrx Manuel and it’s an amazing car to drive. I’ll be able to compare and see the difference it should be a fun time. I almost got the sti myself but my brother let me drive his for 3 days and It isn’t very comfortable for a daily in my opinion. Saved 10k too :p

There's no need for you to understand. You've already made up your mind. Just buy the car you want to buy. Don't worry about anyone else

After more than 1,000,000 miles of manual shifting cars, large trucks, motorcycles and atv's, the thrill is gone and it is nicer to let an auto do the job. To each their own though and I had a lot of fun with manuals until it got to the point where they just seemed like an unnecessary nuisance.
