I’m a fan of The LA Dodgers, Vin Scully (The Dodgers announcer for 60+ years), and the Toronto Blue Jays (family connections to Canada). This is a great Vin Scully call. Not exactly as great as the 1988 Kirk Gibson World Series home run. My favorite team is the Dodgers so of course I am going to say that. But, still a great call (OK, yes, a classic) when he was doing World Series broadcasts for national TV in the USA. Vin Scully was so good because he provided great commentary call but he also knew when to shut up. This was a prime example of that.

@@finnmcginn9931 I just did. The main call of the end of that game that I remember was the one where the Canadian commentator said “touch ‘em all , Joe, you’ll never hit a bigger home run.” I didn’t know the commentator’s name until I read your comment with Tom Cheek’s name, and then listened to the call on KZfaq. Thanks for that! I am indeed very familiar with that call. Also, I agree, as you say it was a “legendary call.”

Tom I believe was a candidate for the Baseball Hall of Fame and if not mistaken may be there already - Please out of respect stop calling a legend in broadcasting a 'one hit wonder' ... he was anything but that and was like an human encyclopaedia for the game of baseball. Your remark shows ignorance of who and how important he was and a complete lack of respect - I don't know what side of the border your from either and perhaps because he didn't work for networks like NBC and CBS and not as well known in the US but if you do some research on the guy you'll be amazed. I'd take the warm, friendly voice and personality of Tom over a lot of the major network voices like a Bob Costas any day. The committment of Tom was also unmatched - He never missed a game from opening day in 1977 for the Jays until he was forced to leave from the brain cancer that sadly killed him soon after PS: I just went and researched and he was indeed recognized post humous in the Baseball Hall of Fame so he's in there and for good reason! Cheers. @@alansands256

Tom Cheek was the Jays' voice, so it makes sense his call had more emotion in it, it was a great call nonetheless. Vin Scully, was the CBS radio broadcaster so he had to be neutral. This was how Vin was most of the time anyway, he made the call and got out of the way. I thought the CBS Television call was pretty good too.

Not one of Vin's better calls. It lacked the emotion of a Series clinching homerun. I get that you stay silent for the crowd reaction and he did a good job of that, but there was no force or power in how he said homerun. Almost sounded disappointed as if he was calling it as a Phillies broadcaster. Maybe he wanted the US to beat Canada?

As a broadcaster, the hardest thing is to not be a fan of either team. Being a fan of the game itself is ok, but it's where you need to be impartial. I don't think he sounded like he was disappointed. He is in love with baseball, and despite not having any horses in the race (The Dodgers or the Giants), and probably would have loved to get even more dramatic about the moment. I think he was just as stunned to see and call that moment. A World-Series-Ending-Walk-Off-Home-Run hadn't happened since 1960, and Vin was one of four men to call it for the ages: *edit* Sean McDonough *end edit*, Harry Calas, and Tom Cheek. Subsequently, I'm so happy for Tom Cheek's longtime broadcast partner Jerry Howarth that he got to call a postseason walk-off clincher. *I previously said it was Tim McCarver, not McDonough* thank you to the billny33 correcting me.*
