I did 10 years straight and the only time I ever saw a guard attacked was when he brought it on his self. When you walk in that gate and act like the gestapo, eventually someone going to give you a workman's comp ticket. Inmates are sentenced to prison as punishment, not to be be punished while they are there!

Inmates generally don’t attack guards for no reason. In my experience, guards that are abusive are targeted. Inmates will respect guards that are consistent and fair!

John Browne Not always true. Random murders happen all the time.

John Browne first inpressions are always inportant depending if the prison is secure or not. Inmates look for guards that are submissive and quiet so they can do whatever they want. Guards who do not fit that description will assert more control, unless that prison is unsafe.

Well damn I've spent time in each of those "camps" to know that some of the tyrants that were there simply to torment inmates that were in actually weak and vulnerable creating monsters!!!!

If they would treat the inmates better there wouldn't be such a problem. I got out of Perry CI in 2014. The "short staff" affects the inmates more than the officers. If there aren't enough officers you don't come out of your cell. No shower, bagged lunches, no rec. Stuck in your cell. 2 or 3 straight day of that will make anybody crazy.....try doing it everyday for the rest of your life. I was at 5 different prisons in SC and they were all the same. After a riot at Lee county in 2012. The yard was on lock down for 24 months.....2 damn years. That will drive the most sane person crazy. Mistreatment of people cause a backlash.

I worked at SCDC from 2003-2007 I worked for Kershaw and Catawba I felt like I was working as a butler at a country club it was all about the inmate all I was trying to do was put these people in there place and have them realize where they were at and who I was. I had no backing it was all informal resolution bullcrap that did no good I was accused of starting conflict with these clowns (again I don't care about my attitude whatever if you don't like it) on my evaluation I was told I was getting too emotional with them just because I dared raise my voice to these goons I thought if I transferred to cawtaba it would be ok WRONG DEAD WRONG it went from bad to worst I tried to put an inmate in the holding cell one evening because he was being disrespectful to me OMG I was made into being the bad guy I was yet again told I was too emotional and the inmate got away with it The worst supervisor was a sixty five year old sergeant who was a mommy type sergeant to the inmates and a complete bitch to the officers they had no consideration for me as an officer they told me to come into work I got all the inmates from work detail except one the sergeant made me go out there when a corporal was trying to de-escalate the situation and try to get him himself she wouldn't hear of it yeah I was angry I had to work my second job In the morning she didn't care she still wrote me up she was the write up queen no one liked her she chased one corporal off then they fired me because an inmate accused me of looking at him uncomfortable WTF the warden believed that goon over me

If the public only knew how some of those guards treat the inmates it wouldn’t be so shocking to hear about situations like this I don’t condone violence but I definitely understand how and why it takes place against guards in prisons in most cases

I was on the medical infirmary for a couple weeks and I saw the five guards beat a inmate for having a seizure because they couldn't wake her up I've seen guards starve inmates for cussing them out this one girl went 5 days without food because she called a guard a bad word that guard wind up quitting her job she deserved every ounce of painful inflicted punishment she got from those inmates the guards don't get attacked for no reason most of time they've done hideous things to inmates respect is two-way street can't disrespect the inmates because you feel like you're better than the inmates

so. the problem is not enough employees. i get it. but how is putting this information out there on the news that the job is dangerous and the pay sucks and understaffed going to fix the staffing problem. nobody is going to see this and run up to apply. considering this was over 2 years ago at this point, obviously nothing has changed.

Just misleading people, in sc just because you're convicted of a violent offense doesn't mean that its actually violent nor is that person violent because of the conviction

I've been to jail some of the gards treat us worse than dogs sometimes they beat other mates and deny them food in my opinion the guards deserve it because inmates have a code of conduct I know this first hand so 🤣

this makes me angry i was terminated as a c/o back in 2007 because a whiny degenerate inmate complained that i looked at him the wrong way and he cried to his mommy they believed his story. thats whats wrong with this system they worry too damn much about catering to theses pieces of shit that they simply dont back their officers up. it is not a prison it is a country club

Inmates have to may of there rights . They forfeit them when they are arrested in my opinion. They already have tax payers keeping them up . they SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY RIGHTS. Oh way innocent to proven guilty . But they are put in jail/prison because they are thought to be or found gulity. Television is a privilege phones are a privilege not a right and last i checked a bed is a privilege . they only thing they deserve is food and water.
